  1. Read my post above - pretty sure its from the hospital via expatvac.
  2. For those in Kanchanaburi the main Phahol hospital is sending out SMS and emails. I had the wife call them but she got the usual response I have had everywhere in this province, Thai only. Assuming the switchboard girl was using the stock 'I don't know' answer I found their website and Facebook page, all in Thai. I fired off an email (no reply as yet) and a messenger query, which was answered quickly and in English, recommending I register with expatvac, which I did August 1st. So if you are in Kanchanaburi here is the current situation. They have a list of 30 names from the MFA (of course my name is not on it). They are receiving names in batches from the MFA and there are more to come in a second round. They don't know when they wil get the second list. So it's 2 steps forward 1 back for me, but if you are one of the 30 you should hear something soon. I also think this is now likely to be happening in other lesser provinces, so let's say it is progress and stay optimistic.

  4. phaholpolpayuhasena hospital - is this the main provincial hospital in Kanchanaburi?
  5. I see the British Chamber of Commerce offering Bangkok jabs too now. Maybe Bangkok will be finished soon and we can get on with helping the other 90% of the population?
  6. Thought for a minute I had a reply from expatvac/local hospital but, no, just an invite from the UK consulate email address to go to .... you guessed it, Bangkok for Astra Zenica. May be of interest to some of you but I will continue to wait for a venue less than 7 hours away. One more disappointment ???? GOV.UK The British Embassy has been informed that British nationals over the age of 18 have the opportunity to receive an AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccination at Piyavate Hospital in Bangkok between 25 and 29 August. Second vaccination 12 weeks later. Registration, on a first come first served basis, is through the following google docs form, https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe3h7dn4nVDNdNDD6ObyPYx6-H0mvE-nJ-RQjFigRrTNRUiqg/viewform?usp=sf_link. Registration closes on Sunday 22 August. Cost is THB 50. Numbers of vaccines are limited, so register now. If you are unsuccessful, we advise you to continue to register with the Thai Ministry of Public health, https://expatvac.consular.go.th/. For further details see gov.uk, Thailand Travel Advice at https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand/coronavirus. British Embassy Bangkok

  8. My brother in the UK is the executor of my UK will. He and a Thai lawyer in Pattaya are joint executors of my Thai will. Practice is Australian/Thai. Cost 5000 Baht. When I pass I am told it will take around 4 weeks to settle the Thai estate with a required visit to a probate court to prove validity of the will. The will is in both Thai and English. I will never know of course, but I hope it works as well as was explained!
  9. Anyone in Kanchanaburi province got word of an appointment yet? I am preparing to be gobsmacked if and when they do.
  10. I think the situation in the 'lesser' provinces is unchanged as far as any expatvac registrants goes. They are likely still working through their top 20 provinces so if you are in a province with 200 or less i.e. not in the top 20, I guess it's going to take a bit longer. The only positive here is the locals are starting to get vaccinated at last, with SInovac. I could have gone along with all the migrant workers but chose to wait along with the wife.
  11. Live in a small village in Sangkhla buri district of Kanachanaburi. Nearest town is an hour away NW or SE. Pros: None Cons: Lots Will be moving post-Covid.
  12. Three days ago my 2 brothers in law joined up to 500 villagers to go get their first Sinovac vaccine. My wife declined, like me, preferring to wait. The brothers have a small business hiring out music etc for weddings, funerals etc but obviously no real customers for a while, so they for a month have joined the migrant workers planting a large area of rubber trees. The migrant workers, including 2 friends, a couple in their mid 40s from Laos, also went for the vaccine. Today the poo yai tannoyed the death of the girl. She had gotten sick and had been transferred to the local hospital where she died after less than 24 hours. Whether related or not, the reaction in the village, where there was already resistance to having this vaccine, is now very anti to say the least. RIP leaves a good husband and 2 children. My BiL knew them well, mid-40s and very fit outdoor workers.
  13. Pleading guilty of liking fast food, but fortunately they are all 3 hours drive from me so it's a rare occasion. Before Covid we used to go every month to Kanchanaburi city to shop at Makro BigC etc and made it a bit of a break with one or two nights in a hotel. So breakfast was a Big Mac meal. When we finished Makro we'd go to BigC which had a KFC so that was my lunch, while the wife had 2 or 3 dishes from the food hall. Zinger was my favourite. Dessert was a Dairy Queen strawberry sundae. When we were finished the shopping and heading home, I often picked up a takeaway bucket (or 2) of spicy chicken for freezing at home. It freezes quite well. I miss those trips, not been to Kan for at least 6 months and am already looking forward to my fast food feast. By the way I do eat healthy 99% of the time on my keto lifestyle, but it's a great treat to eat whatever you want once in a blue moon.
  14. Living in a village 40 minutes from the Myanmar border I am well aware of that. I just feel it is a higher number than I would have guessed.
  15. Yes, I see hundreds of them every day, I just thought even with say 3M migrants, 2M other foreigners was a bit on the high side.
  16. From the UK Embassy newsletter. If you got a rejection see last paragraph News · 7683 British Nationals have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine via Thailand’s vaccination programme (source: MOPH Immunization Centre 16th August 2021). · The CCSA have stated vaccines will be allocated as soon as possible and to as many as possible to generate herd immunity. Areas with high fatality rates will be allocated vaccines first, with persons in high risk groups given priority to receive a vaccine. · The Department of Disease Control has emphasised that people in high risk groups should get vaccinated as soon as possible. · You should contact Ministry Of Foreign Affairs directly on 025728442 if you successfully registered for a vaccine via the MFA website and have subsequently received an email stating your application has been declined.
  17. Thaks, that is what I expected. It's a pain trying to keep the correct money ready. "the majority claim they can't make change" applies to all of Thailand though, not just COD from Lazada ????

  19. When I get a delivery from Lazada I always pay the driver with cash on a COD purchase. Do they offer a QR code option?
  20. If you are talking Krung Thai I have no probems paying bills by QR code, indeed I pay my electricity bill this way every month. Change branch (to a bigger one) or ask for the manager. In any case how would the bank system know you are a foreigner! Ridiculous excuse for ignorance/incompetence.
  21. Apart from eggs which vary weekly from 95 to 120 baht for a tray, not much else has changed price wise. But what has changed in the village is the number of locals setting up a small mom and pop shop. In the last 2 months at least 5 residents, returned from a job in other provinces have built a shop in front of there home. Some have spent a fair bit with a proper build as opposed to a bamboo affair and so presumably are here for the long term. The village had about 10 local shops, with only one large enough to be callled a shop, so now have about 15, in true copy-cat Thai style. Good news is the closest one selling beer and Beng Bengs is now a 100 metre stroll from my home!
  22. No, not at all, my village is 70% Myanmar and Laos. I was alluding that the number surprised me. It's often quoted there are 3 Million migrant workers which woud mean 2 million additional foreigners. Just seemed higher than I would expect. Would be great if someone would produce a table of actual numbers by country?
