They keep catching them in other countries when coming from Thailand. But, somehow none in Thailand.
I wonder why this is...

So this guy is the drug minister, then the fact that its all a misunderstanding and a name switchup holds even less credibility. God what bad group of people that are in charge. Its so anoying when liars and cheats get in positions of power.
Even worse that almost all parties have them (former FFP excluded).
It's a perfect reflection of the society. No different. Will find the same across the public and private sector. The corruption is endemic.

That then takes 20% of GDP away.
That will inevitably effect manufacturing for domestic consumption, and the worldwide export markets are going to be at least sluggish for some time to come leading I suppose to a further significant drop in GDP.
That is a very big chunk of the available money within Thailand's economy lost in however you look at it
Will be a great year or two for cheap handjobs. Probably younger, fitter ladies as well. Fewer Chinese tourists. Good outcome

"All the businessmen and entrepreneurs' opinions were amazing. The government should meet with these honchos who have expertise in each business in society and I believed that my decision to hold a discussion with them was right," he said. By granting an ' amnesty ' to Vorayuth , Thailand's reputation in the world would have been damaged as it would have been regarded as a country where the rich influential people can buy their way out of the legal system . That is the only reason just because this case made international headlines . No international headlines , all goes on same normal ...
Yes. You get it. Redbull has lots of western investors and business dealings. So, the company has to be very careful how the international community views the handling of this case. Their reputation will be damaged anyway, but if they pretend to have rule of law in Thailand, it will help them.

THAI should open a few massage shops, staffed by their out of work flight attendants who provide the massage in THAI uniforms.

@sandyf if you have time, can you please explain to the government your analysis that the Thais will make up shortfall with their domestic tourism and reputation for big spending?
I don't think they are aware.

Thai-loving rose colored glasses expats have been very quiet lately!

These people will say anything. They are not bound to any measure of reality. I would not have been surprised if he said he is resigning because his long dead relative returned from the dead and have him counsel.

THAI survived despite the Thais. And foreign tourism is the only thing that kept it alive. If the tourists don't come back very soon, you will see a series of violent deaths related to this corruption allegation. It's almost guaranteed. Get the popcorn

The almost universal Thai corruption will not change. The government will go after 1 or 2 token people that are in an opposing political clan. They will never go after their own clan. The whole of Thai society is a farce. Thin veneer of modernity painted over a feudal, totally underdeveloped society.

OK. I must acknowledge the TV writers who really are experts at getting us turned on. "Farangs" in quotes was the key here to get us all infuriated. Good job

More blatant evidence that the (Sino) Thai government is following the Chinese Communist Party Playbook down to the finest detail. They will pay if they continue down this path.

Thailand has among the lowest testing rates in the world.

Lots of expats clearly have no understanding of basic economics. If you think tourism is not crucial to Thailand (despite everyone in government talking almost exclusively about tourism), I really don't know what to say.
To those who think that because they don't see tourists on a regular basis, that tourism can't be very significant, I say to them, I don't see farmers on a regular basis, but I da#n sure do eat.

In too many farang countries he would have been a free man in a decade, give or take a few years.
Lets hope THAILAND doesnt get infected with these liberal ideas but stays strong and fair.
Fair? You're urinating now.
If you have money and power here, you can do ANYTHING. Including running down police officers in luxury autos.

Problem with phoning direct is usually that for farang, you will almost never get anyone who can speak more than 3 or 4 words of English. If your Thai partner calls, maybe you'll have luck.

The vast majority of imported covid cases are coming from Thais returning in quarantine. The number of cases from returning foreigners is tiny. And it's because Thais don't have to provide a negative test before flying.
If the Thai authorities are genuinely that concerned about local transmission and a second wave, why are they not insisting everyone has a negative test before flying?
COVID Thai not same same the COVID farang. Covid Thai less danger na.

Immigration have nothing to do with tourists, except stamping them in and out. They have everything to do with expats. Don't confuse the two. And they should indeed treat expats better. Now they know that, with us remaining in the country due to the pandemic we are, surprise surprise, not the threat to national security they claim, whose every movement around the country must be tracked as happens in somewhere like North Korea. But I'm not holding my breath, and will continue to bend to their demands in order that I am allowed to visit my wife.
At the first opportunity, they will be back to mirroring China (culturally and through policy) and the anti-Western agenda. It may be a few years now, but ultimately the Thai elite (who are, surprise surprise almost always ethnic Chinese) never wanted us here.
Thailand's real crisis is the economy

This is only true if a person doesn't understand or ignores the structural changes in the global economy underway. Thailand was already falling into the middle income trap. Now, it has covid and a semi permanent change and likely decline in tourism during the next 5 years. It is missing out on significant decoupling between the world and China. And, it has a horrid education system and very poorly trained population.
The economy has run on Handjobs, assembly of goods built and designed in other countries and growing rice.
How will it adapt to the future?
