  1. Is there some way a girl of 19 can be a teacher? If she has been in Thailand for 2 years and is now 21 it implies that she became a teacher when she was 19. I thought teachers needed degrees.

I wonder if she has a work permit to start her business and work as a teacher......and what is a teacher doing opening mail. And who is her boss.....presumably if she started the Hot in the Biscuit, she is her own boss. So is this a boss from her teaching job? Is her boss in jail as well? Did he work at the same school/cafe?

Something doesn't smell right. But poor girl, I would not like to be in her shoes right now.

  2. Great, great fantastic......wow, a remake of a totally awesome brilliantly funny movie and to make it on the 20th anniversary: even more brilliant still. There is simply no end to the creativity of Hollywood, the best movies over and over again......my personal favourite is Fast and Furious 762....I love the way the story line never changes.

  3. I took advice before beginning study here. One fellow was a Vietnam vet been here since 1968. He told me to learn to read and write first, because the tones are incorporated into the written language.

I took private lessons three times a week for about 8 months. I could read reasonably well and write OK.....but no one could understand anything I said and I could understand nobody apart from the teacher or my wife's family.

I gave up. I can speak French, Italian, English and Japanese. The tones and perhaps more difficult are the vowel lengths in Thai. I feel totally stupid as most Germans I meet can speak Thai reasonably well, but Imperial US/UK expect everybody to speak English to save them having to learn any languages.

  4. My gf is Thai but has lived in Japan for 25 years and we have an apartment in Tokyo. She went back in May with no problems at all to renew her visa. I stayed here in Thailand.....but she is still waiting for a flight back to Thailand. She so hopeful to be back and finished quarantine for Xmas.

I don't understand the situation....she flew out on a scheduled flight from JAL...one that could not let passengers disembark in Suvarnabhumi....I think they flew cargo into Thailand and people out. The return trip on 22nd August was cancelled by JAL and the gf has been in limbo ever since.

  5. Joe, No. The visa was dated July 2008; I got it from the Hull Consulate and showed no financial documents that I remember. What I then did was to come here for a week in November and opened a bank account and deposited the money for a retirement extension. I needed the retirement extension because I was shipping in a houseful of goods and didn't want to pay taxes. Thus I never needed the 90 border run. I came back in mid December to try to do the retirement extension.

My wife and I went to CW and she asked to see the manager of the I/O....we were escorted back to a police colonel I/O, and my wife explained our problem...she just gave me a non O visa, valid until March which was almost 15th.

Both my passports have me in as a non O....so I self insure instead of insuring through the rip-off companies here.

Yeah I told her that but she said she's been trying to contact them for some time and hasn't been able to get a response yet.

Obviously she'll have to contact them at some point but just wondered if anyone had ideas about whether she's better off trying to use her expired Thai passport or her UK one in the current situation.

Is there even any visa should could get on her UK passport at the moment?

From another friend trying to get back here I have heard the Thai embassy in the UK is worse than useless....don't return phone, calls email, etc. I have heard that you need to go down to the embassy early in the morning and wait outside....but I don't know ion this is true either.,

  7. Joe, I see a lot of stuff about non-O and non OA visas. I thought it was to do with where it was issued....ie abroad or in Thailand. I came here in 2009 with a 12 month multi entry visa from outside the country, (which I thought was OA but I've tossed the passport years ago). I was advised that you could not get a retirement extension from outside the country at the time.

When I applied for 'retirement' status, I was given an extension of stay for almost 15 months. It is a non O visa or that is what it says in my passport.

Did the I/O in Bangkok change my visa from nonOA to nonO?

OP, you can renew your retire extension, 1 year and a re-entry permit etc At the moment you cannot return based on a retire extension,  but I think its maybe safe to presume sometime in the next 12 months you may well be able to return using the extension/re-entry.

I don't think this is a valid assumption. There is almost no immunity to Covid, we will almost certainly see wave 2 in January or February time and the moment the borders open and the morgues overflow, the airports will shut again.

  9. What exactly is he doing about it? He ordered agencies to 'address the issue". Let's set up some committees with sub committees. Unless you can tell me Who does What, by When.....then you have no plan at all. There is no plan.....only 'concern'.

"On Sunday night, the provincial governor issued a warning to people living near water sources in 10 districts, advising them to be prepared for evacuation. Vehicles with loudspeakers have been deployed to areas most at-risk, warning people to be on alert."

There it is all sorted out by Prayut! A man with a van and a loudspeaker telling people to prepare to evacuate. Time for Uncle to resign I think.

Extremely frustrating, but these visas do not make Thailand your home at all.  This black swan that happened has sent them back to their true nature.

I wouldn't invest .01c in Thailand.  The place is a total train wreck.  Any other country would allow these people back in after doing the proper quarantine measures at their own expense.

Thais just don't care.  They want more money, and are not interested in doing the right thing.  Disgusting.

What exactly are they supposed to do? Open the floodgates and get a million cases of Covid? No thanks.
