Pak Chong tragedy: Nephew murders uncle over insult feud
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
so the team probably included inexperienced officers??? -
Brave action by the local residents. Scanning through the posts, so far not one from a dog lover condemning the pitbull's death!

Very sad IMO, but in such a short space of time, he has gained much worldwide interest and acclaim, more so than the dinosaurs have in their entire lives!!

Very commendable action and I wish you success. As you quite rightly said this only affects the UK State OAP. My State OAP is also frozen here in Cambodia (same rate as 14 years ago), however both my UK Government Civil Service Retirement and my Local Government Retirement Pensions are NOT FROZEN and I receive all the increases due. I did make enquiries some years ago and as far as I can remember, it will take an Act of Parliament to change the relevent section of the Social Security Act of 1948 to "unfreeze" these pensions. Unfortunately, easier said than done!

Human Remains Unearthed at Nakhon Si Thammarat Stadium
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
Very much so. Reference (from the UK): Experts are trying to solve the mystery behind dozens of skeletons, some with their hands tied behind backs, that were discovered in a mass grave at a Buckinghamshire building site. Around 80 bodies were found in late 2019 on land being prepared for a new retirement development. Experts know the skeletons date from between Roman times and the 18th century. But they were not buried in an “organised” cemetery or given a Christian burial. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/bodies-found-skeletons-buried-hands-tied-b1917108.html -
Oh really!! TAT, are you aware of this latest development in Russia (25 July 2023) ?? I bet not! Russian lawmakers on Tuesday voted to increase the age for military conscription, a move aimed at expanding Moscow’s army ranks with a bigger pool of trained recruits who could potentially join the battle in Ukraine.............. The new measure, ............ applies to the year of military service required of all Russian men. Starting next year, those ages 18 to 30 will be required to serve; previously, it was 18 to 27. The bill also prohibits men who have been conscripted from leaving the country, an attempt to cut down on draft dodging. https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2023/jul/25/russia-plans-to-increase-age-range-for-required-1-/ There are already restrictions on the issue of passports (28 September 2022): Moscow will not give out passports to Russians mobilized by the army, a government information portal said Wednesday, as fears of travel restrictions rise and tens of thousands flee the country. https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2022/09/28/russia-will-not-give-out-passports-to-mobilized-people-government-a78920

A glimmer of hope? Just been posted on my Facebook page here in Cambodia 24 July 2023 (for reference): Pita may get another chance for PM post as ombudsmen question lawmakers’ decision against him . The three ombudsmen are unanimously questioning the constitutionality of parliamentarians blocking Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat from being renominated as PM candidate. . The Office of Ombudsmen announced on Monday that the regulators have decided to ask the Constitutional Court to see if the Parliament decision last week was constitutional. It also wants the court to suspend the second round of PM voting set for Thursday. . https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/politics/40029644 .

Exorbitant payment processing fees for AirAsia flights
Burma Bill replied to omnipresent's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Very much so, and thanks, but it regularly happened on Air Asia flights from Khon Kaen (KKC) to DMK. I used to sit and watch many Thai passengers in the "red seats" being given pre-packed food from the trolley which was then placed in a bag and taken off the plane for consumption at a later time! I found out that these passengers were Government/Local Government employees who were given upgraded red seats and food. Maybe they all had tapeworms - not unusual from eating Thai raw food! -
Exorbitant payment processing fees for AirAsia flights
Burma Bill replied to omnipresent's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Maybe so, but you have the option to discard the add-ons when making your booking e.g. Choice of seat - delete Book a meal - delete Travel Insurance - delete Baggage in hold - delete - the fare decreases accordingly and then, with respect, compare with Nok Air. For reference: Only Thai Air Asia, Malay Air Asia and Bangkok Airways serve Siem Reap in Cambodia. Nok Air has no flights to Cambodia. -
Very sorry to read of your concerns and I have heard other peoples comments (as above) when I lived near Khon Kaen. Similar with the local RAM hospital - both very expensive (medical insurance). I used the private Rachapruek Hospital around the corner, northwards on Route 2, not "5-Star Hilton Hotel" luxury but ideal for me as I did not qualify for medical insurance being an insulin dependent Type 2 diabetic. I wish you well.

Exorbitant payment processing fees for AirAsia flights
Burma Bill replied to omnipresent's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Same for me (when I lived in Thailand). As a "valued" (air miles) customer, I received a small discount. I used to book on line then confirm by paying cash at my local 7-11 (no card details involved). -
5 things you love most about Thailand.
Burma Bill replied to Lacessit's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
My 5 "likes" when I lived in Thailand:- 1. The magnificant mountain scenery of Lanna. 2. Inexpensive diesel for my pick-up truck (allowed me to explore most of Northern Thailand). 3. Being invited to be a Tourist Police Volunteer (after 34 years in UK Police Service). 4. Chiang Mai. 5. Thai Air Asia's bargain tickets for domestic and local ASEAN destinations ("Fly-Thru") -
5 things you hate most about Thailand
Burma Bill replied to bignok's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
My 5 pet hates (when I lived in rural Thailand) 1. Bureaucratic requirements for a retirement visa. 2. Chillies. 3. Loud screaming drunk Thai women at pool tables/karaokes. 4. Floor level toilets with plastic bowl and tub of water to flush/clean 5. Regular water supply interruptions to my house.
