Er thanks .... I think! All the info is in Thai. So far cannot find what range it has or how long the battery lasts? (Needs to be the type that connects to the car battery).

Have you got one of these yourself?

Hmmm thinks.... Anyone know where I can buy a GPS tracking device? Then if the car gets stolen at least I can track it down, presumably with an iphone.

Lazada is your friend  "car tracking device"; from 42 baht on up.

Thanks, but on lookiing into this, so far I find they have limited range and / or battery power. I need something more professional...... A tracker that works long distance, can be followed on a iphone map and continues to function for at least 3 months.... Suggestions anyone?

(Yikes! If Lady Roadrunner ever finds out about trackers it will curtail my short time visits.)

  3. As I understand it, the law on rentals changed last May to allow a tenant to break a lease with 30 days notice providing they had a genuine reason (which you appear to have). The law was changed to prevent Landlords abusing Tenants.

You should also read your contract and see where you stand there.

As for reporting you to Immigration:- Renting a property is not an Immigration matter.

  4. Does not matter which bank issued it, if it has VISA or Mastercard on it then it should be valid worldwide. I do wonder about the reasoning behind the bank not putting your name on it? My SCB VISA Debit Card has no name, but I guess the imbeded chip identifies it as mine.

  5. Just an excuse to get himself a new BMW.

His car is not so smart as it will only catch a tiny percentage of illegals.

The long border is obviously porous and impossible to police. Vietnamese come in on a tourist visa and stay as long as they like. Then just walk back over the border.

I recall watching the Cambodians crossing the border under a bridge, like ants, carrying smuggled goods. Either end of the bridge were Thai and Cambodian immigration, oblivious to all going on below.

What if I import an engine to change the one in a car already registered here in Thailand ? Nobody will ever know ? or can i have problems with insurance ? thank you.

If you swap the engine you will need a receipt showing where you purchased it, with the engine number written on it. Show this to DLT and all is well.

The big question here is, how are you going to get it through Customs?
