Bangkok is not Singapore or HK. These two cities are together with NY and London the financial centres of the world. Which means thousands of people on very high salaries.

Bangkok is what? Corruption centre with handful of billionaire families owning everything.

The 240M house would have to rent for 800,000 THB a month to get laughable 4% return before expenses and tax.

Prices are also a fraction of those other 2. The buying frenzy is happening for a reason..Unfortunately for renters that do like Bangkok  its now out of reach for most in desirable areas eg around Asoke. Im ecstatic I bought there before The Chinese discovered it.

All furniture, bedding, curtains, clothes, TV's, laptops, AC units, kids toys, window frames and windows, doors, skirting boards, kitchen cabinets, kitchen appliances, cost of re decorating etc..........

Isn't all that worth paying 5k per year ?

buy a fire extinguisher. Chances of your house spontaneously com busting while your down at the pub are zero. If your surrounded by dense bush and there is history of bush fires in your area then thats another matter

They are wary of protesting since in the past, when they have done so , their fellow countrymen in green have shown no revulsion for shooting them. However...sometimes it can kick off but it is always Bangkok that takes the lead.

Getting shot at is expected. Look at what happened in Egypt and others but it didn't stop the protesters (900 killed). How else can the government repulse civil unrest? I do find it odd that posters are suggesting that Thais are cowards by not protesting . I strongly believe they would and of course that goes along with risking your life but hey a tea party and a civil debate with the generals aint gonna work.!

The only possible explanation is they dont want Prayut out. Time will tell not long now

    That's it.

I sat and read one article after another on Columbia this morning over my cappuccino. I'm pulling the plug on Columbia.  After firsthand accounts from my new dorm mates who got in from Columbia yesterday explaining in vivid details how they were robbed twice, once at gunpoint,  the other the police stopped their taxi, and confiscated their cellphones, I decided I'm not risking it. They also met several others there that had also been robbed at gunpoint for their cellphones.

This I don't need.  And,  if I loose my electronics,  I'm really in trouble. I can't pop into a Samsung store like in Bkk, get a replacement phone and be up and running before the end of the day, back to my apartment and having a beer watching RT out of Moscow while my girlfriend makes a lovely Thai dinne.

My ability to navigate,  do banking,  make reservations and more are tied to my cellphone.  To show up in Colombia, knowing no one and to try this is just stupid.

No amount of an easy visa is worth dealing with this.   It is ludicrous to go solo, no support,  minimum language skills into a country with this kind of problem.

I would have to be on high alert from the time I landed. So, I'm headed to Mexico City to hang as long as I want, up to six months. I can extend my travel insurance up to six months at this point.

I can still travel and explore, the weather there is not so darn hot, get a place and just settle for awhile and wait to see what happens in Thailand after the elections and after my current visa expires.

If I want, I can fly back to the USA and rent a small apartment in a small fishing town on the East Coast and hang their too.  No car required.

Enough of this. Hanging in Mexico is something I know how to do. Drug Cartels and all. I'm happy to answer questions if anyone wants to ask me anything.

Just bought four Xiaomi 2S air purifiers 6000 baht each after searching for weeks, the shop has sold loads, sold out again now.

They work very well bringing us down from over 200 to 20 or 30 AQI, they are automatic, have smartphone app and cheap to run only 23 watts each.

Not looking forward to replacing the filters as I am sure they will be expensive, but family’s health more important.

i do feel sorry for the poor people who haven’t got my options, and no power to improve their situation. Time to make the Government accountable.

650 baht not to bad but the question is how often under this load? at least twice a year maybe 3 . Your unit should give a flashing light when its time. https://shopee.co.th/Replacement-Air-Filter-Cartridge-Purifier-Element-For-Xiaomi-Mi-Air-2S-Mi-2-i.82270931.1650561206

You can by a portable monitor on Lazada to measure PM2.5. They are all pretty good and work much the same. Look for:

Portable Xiaomi SmartMi PM2.5 cost at 1330 bht, including shipping. I have bought a few of these for friends and reccommend them.

Dont waste your money on a purifier with fancy readouts and wi fi connections, ionisation and all that rubbish. Basically they all work by blowing air through a Hepa filter which filters out the 2.5 particulates. Make sure you can get replacement filters or do what I do which is buy sections of Hepa filter and waste an afternoon of your life cutting it to size, fitting it then telling everybody how clever you are saving 100 bht.

Its not just a hepa filter! you will need a  carbon filter to remove smoke odor (google it)

Those numbers are "fancy" because your an old git who doesn't understand them ????

They are PM 2.5 read outs plus temp and humidity etc Those numbers control the auto fan settings in my unit. The one I have is Grunluft (with 4 filters) 3500 baht lazada and is outstanding. Why are people buying hand held read out units when for a few thousand baht more can buy a purifier with the unit built in?
