  1. Have to disagree with you on this one Patriot. One of the good things to come from surveys is that it focuses our minds on the value of life, and for some, the afterlife. Especially if the survey is applicable to us personally.

My friend in Pattaya, drinks a crate/box of Leo every day. He will never drink more than the 12 (large) bottles. Even if he has finished the lot by early afternoon he will not have another. His self-discipline is astounding.

For myself; I only drink home-made mushroom or garlic wine*. Then only in moderation; just a glass a day. I can recommend it to anyone that would like to be taller and more muscular. I've gone from 1.91m to 1.94m in just 12 months and I'm more muscular now than this time last year.

    * Full details for brewing are available in the TVForum archives.
I think you have a good marketing opportunity if your old fella grew proportionally as well
  2. Let them drink themselves to death, their life their choice. I don't see the point on holding it against people that they neglect to take care of their bodies. That is a personal choice everyone should make for themselves. You can't force someone to live healthy, i can understand that people get forced to live healthy if there is some kind of health care program everyone pays into but the people drinking make more use of. But that is not the case for the expats in Thailand / Pattaya.
Drinking your self to death is hard to do unless you are one of the few chronic alcoholics. Big difference between a steady drinker and chronic alcoholism although non drinkers like to smugly classify all drinkers as chronic

The liver is an incredibly powerful organ. Dad was a big drinker and I followed him into my 40's and then had the dreaded blood tests. Liver was in The NORMAL range lol

  3. I wear an N95 mask when outdoors.

Indoors we keep the windows and doors closed, use air purifyer and about to add filters to the aircon units.

The air quality is very poor in Bangkok at the moment I would give any area a miss that has high pollution since then the authorities might wake up if the tourist numbers begin to fall. Its also better for your health of course.

Im hoping the Chinese will be more aware of the health risks of pollution and start skipping Bangkok for their tours so that the authorities take note and take action.

By Chinese standards the smog air in bangkok would be considered refreshing

  4.    I don't know about Jomtien but Pattaya and Naklua/Wong Amat are very busy.  Lots of people on Pattaya Beach every time we drive by and the beach is looking good--clean and now wide with the beach improvements.  Central Festival was busy on Monday--the line to get into the parking garage was backed up to Beach Road.  Thank goodness for T21 or it would have been even worse.
Blown away by the width of the beach. After reading so many posts the beach was a disaster and sand washing away

Turns out to be typical TV nonsense.

The beach vendors will be pissed off as now there is 50 meters of long Beach in front of them where punters are sun baking free of harresment! Love it [emoji23]

  5. No Chain restaurant opening in Thailand has ever had as much good will that Taco Bell had behind them....Their success was almost guaranteed 100%....

But now it looks like they are doomed to failure..... They will say Thailand does not like Mexican food.....Sorry dip shits Thailand loves Mexican food with BEANS AND BEEF.......

True. I had a few drinks at Margherita storm lower Sukhumvit with the Gf.
Ordered some beef taco's and she in typical thai style refused to even look at them let alone try one

After some gentle persuasion she took a teeny little bite.

It's now her favorite eat out food.

  6. My Ex is on holiday with me presently. I brought her to Dongtan beach for a change from sitting at the pool in View Talay. She got the only bed available, there wasn't two beds available. I told her to "book" a bed for the next day if she liked it there. That evening I asked her if she booked a bed ...her reply..."I loved it there but couldn't book a bed...all booked up for the following two months"
The only chance to get one was when somebody finished using theirs and left...taking their towel with them.
    A truly shocking story.

Why would you bring an ex to Pattaya?

  7. We buy eggs at the local market.

    Simple test for freshness.

Put the eggs in a saucepan or bowl of water.

If they float then they are bad, chuck them away. If not then they are OK.
Smell test works and save on water bills [emoji16]
  8. Millions of us are hopeful that these absolute goons will be outvoted, even if it is by Bozo the Clown. Whoever. It barely matters at this point, as long as the incompetent, power hungry, greedy, heartless fools can be put out to pasture. I think it is safe to say that the vast majority of Thais, and nearly every ex-pat in Thailand despises the army, and Prayuth.

Get out. Get out now. You are not wanted, you are not needed, you are not liked. You are in the way of progress, and have done so little in the four years you have been given. You are the roadblocks, to Thailand moving forward!

"I Think it is safe to say that the vast majority of Thais, and nearly every ex-pat in Thailand despises the army, and Prayuth."

Share with us how you came to this conclusion? I'm guessing the reply will be "the Thais I know"

My view is the complete opposite. Not a single protest from the masses that's cold hard facts and trumps the Thais I know nonsense.

As western nations stumble through political chaos, Thailand has had a dream run and the Thais of course know it. Thailand is it long last stable compared to the the chaos over the last 10 years

Expect a complete land slide IMO

  9. I had this happen to me recently on consecutive days. On both occasions I paid with a 1000 and was 100 short changed. When I get my change I fan it out and check it is right before pocketing it.

In both restos the wait staff picked up on the short change before I complained about it and gave me the missing 100. This confirms to me that some waiting staff are trying it on. A lot of people just pick up the change without checking it, so don't even know they have been diddled.

I won't name either restaurant involved but I would just advise caution. Same applies in bars; maybe moreso as drink dulls the grey matter, or so I'm told.

I must say that I have been given too much change on 2 occasions and I have handed the extra back. One amount was more than what the employee would earn in a day.

Yes they don't even try to hide it. They watch you and as soon as you are about to complain they bring the missing change.

Happened to me 2 times in one week at my local 7/11. The little Muslim girl is now gone and probably got caught by the cameras

  10. Yes, Burmese of Cambodians do all the real work, if they need someone to stand around picking their nose or playing with their phones plenty to choose from!

The thai workers in central mall both in the food court and shops are stressed out because high season has forced them to actually work, something they are not used to. Lots of long sad faces and they don't even hide the fact that your annoying them!

Staff in the food court yesterday were screaming at a Russian family. Full on abuse! Went to oz recently and was blown away by the super friendly smiling professional staff pretty much everywhere
