  1. Numbers of tourists setting foot in Thailand may well be up but what  about the hotel night count? 3.5 million Chinese spending four nights is effectively worth 1 million Europeans spending two weeks. But the Russians seem to be replacing the Swedes, Brits and Aussies as the new long-term stayers.

I have to say Phuket had a slow start to high season but it appears pretty busy now, with Karon and Kata resembling a little Moscow.

Your fixated on Pattaya/phuket china's . In BKK every mall every hi so brand shop is crawling with middle class Chinese and they are spending. The Russians on the other hand are mostly living in 7/11 's

  2. You might not believe it.. and like you i love my aircon but my brother was here on a holiday and they never used the aircon that was available in their rooms for free. They got sick from it did not like it. So there are truly people who don't like the aircon. I don't believe its always an excuse.
It was a bit tongue in cheek. Yes some people can't cope with the dry air at all but they would be a small percentage and of course those with a sea breeze don't need it
  3. Have 2 aircon, one in the bedroom however I rarely use it and installed a ceiling fan directly over my bed instead of the middle of the room and it's cool even on low setting

I use the TV room aircon around 16 hours a day for around 120 baht per day, the cost of a Pint.
I didnt work all my life to suffer the bangkok heat without ac when I need it but I do no know expats that never use AC but it's always always about the money and yes the "but I don't like AC" is a convenient excuse and I don't believe it for a single minute [emoji16]

  4. There are also a lot of Official cover ups concerning the burning of toxic waste from Commercial Enterprises.
I was in Pattaya just yesterday, and the smell of burning PVC from electrical wiring was pungent in the air.
Living about 20 Km from Pattaya, and in the Countryside, I witness the dumping and burning of large amounts of waste that is considered to be of toxic nature by so called " Companies" that are waste recycle business,s.
This issue has been bought before the Local Administration Office by myself, and numerous other residents of the Village, and nothing is done to prevent either the dumping or burning.
Now, I photograph the perp,s and tell them that if I see them in my my location again, I will take the photos to the Local Admin Office, and they will be prosecuted and fined 2,000 Baht.
This approach seems to be working for me, and the burning at least has drastically reduced.
However, I must point out that I am  6Ft 5 In and am about 115 Kg, so if you take this course of action also take a friend or two with you
Problem is a sharp machete dont understand height n weight. Bullets even more so.
Be very careful, not worth losing your life over and you won't be the first and most definitely NOT the last.
  5. Last week Bangkok Bank lady warned me that their MC is not a full MC, won't work for online shopping, some Thai shops, or overseas. I've closed my account there now.
If that's the case then dump it for sure. I tried to use the union pay at friendship supermarket last night and of course they only use visa and MC.

SO struggled outside on crutches due to a recent injury and the atm was down! So had to go hunting for an atm.

BKK bank shot themselves in the foot with this moronic move
  6. You say that the 4 embassies yanked a carpet.  No the way I read it, Thailand changed the rules.  They no longer wanted just the affidavit, they demanded the embassies verify the income and the four countries chose not to get involved in a process for another country's requirement that put them in a position as an auditor.  The process for an O non immigrant visa requires a 65K baht monthly income.  If the person is just arriving in Thailand, and Thailand refuses to view his bank statement from his native country, that is an impossibility.  As I see it, and I still have even one person address this, HOW IS A PERSON SUPPOSED TO OPEN A BANK ACCOUNT IN THAILAND WITHOUT A 1 YEAR VISA.  i have been to five banks including two branches of SCB, and Krungsri banks ALL OF THEM REFUSED TO OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITHOUT A 1 YEAR VISA and that was even with my Fiance who is Thai having an account at SCB.  Further, the $800 baht has to be aged for 3 months. The bank told me this as did the immigration office in Jomtien.  The first 0 visa is only for 90 days.  So even if a person was able to secure an account as the same day they received their O Visa and deposit the same day it would not be aged.  IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE ONLY THING THAT THAILAND DID WAS TO PUT PEOPLE IN A CATCH 22.  They can no longer get an income verification at the 4 embassies, they can not open a bank account in Thailand without a Visa and they can't get a Visa without a bank account.  Perhaps those posting opened accounts some years ago when the banks were less restrictive.  The answer find a friendly branch does not cut it.  As stated, I went to 5 banks and 7 branches and all were the same. NO 1 YEAR VISA, NOT ALLOWED TO OPEN AN ACCOUNT.
If your are absolutely not able to open and account while most of us are able to open multiple accounts then you should take a look in the mirror.

It won't help if you are scruffy or have bad hygiene.

However if your poor and forced to live in nahkon nowhere then you better bloody well learn the language but better to not be poor IMO.

  8. I’ve used agents for the last decade and pay for short cuts anywhere and everywhere I can. Why? My time is valuable and I’m not going to spend it dealing with idiots at immigration or with anyone else in this country who has the potential to slow me down or get in my way.

What nonsense. Immigration are hardly idiots. Never had a drama, have your paper work in order and your done. Have encountered way more farang idiot than immigration idiots and with your big bwana attitude its no wonder your forced down the road of corrupt agents.
