  1. "Bringing into or taking out of Thailand baht banknotes in an amount exceeding THB 450,000 or foreign currency banknotes in an amount exceeding USD 15,000 or its equivalent requires a Customs declaration when entering or leaving the country."
  2. Lots who look very young on Soi 6 ... yet turn out to be over 30. With ages of consent creeping upwards everywhere nobody knows a young 'un from a middle-aged 'un anymore.
  3. Many beer bar MILFs in Thailand spend nights with young backpackers. I guess then not much money changes hands, if at all. Logically the guy, as the hotter of both, should be the one getting paid. Older women capitalizing on a booming tourism industry to get laid far above their sexual market value. A far cry from the stereotyped image of prostitution. Women are clever. They contrive to get the long end of the stick more often than not.
  4. On the contrary, using credit cards for micro-amounts is very handy. I remember how handy it was with Uber in Brazil, where even drivers preferred cashless payments so as not to accumulate cash. Bookings for peanut amounts kept popping up in the bank app, so what? No more "no change" scam. No more foraging in pockets for dirty bills and coins.
  5. So it would seem negative balances work, positive ones don't. That's daft.
  6. I see. Savings book getting filled in no time. Note that Bolt offers the option of transferring a lump sum as "Bolt credit" (or "Bolt balance"). Then individual rides are subtracted from that. This is a way to limit the number of transactions on the bank account.
  7. I've had a minor hassle with Bolt. Whenever I used Bolt in Thailand in the past I paid cash and hadn't any credit card registered as "payment method". Last month however I was in Portugal where Bolt required a credit card. Bolt worked smoothly with my credit card in Portugal. After landing in Thailand I forgot to reset the Bolt payment method to "cash" so when my first ride in Pattaya ended, the Bolt app said "ok, paid". However at the very same time my bank app generated a push notification to the tune of "Bolt 85 Baht payment rejected". For three days on end I got the same notification over and over from my bank app! Bolt was apparently trying to book the 85 Baht, to no avail. After some messaging with the Bolt support they recommended I delete the credit card, then register it again. I did so and Bolt successfully booked a token amount of 0.03 euros from my card. After that I successfully paid off my 85-Baht "Bolt balance". Now I'm in two minds as to whether to leave the credit card for payment in the Bolt app. It would be nice if I could go cashless with Bolt in Thailand, but will not the next ride end up in the same "payment rejected" charade? Any experiences with foreign credit card to pay for Bolt? Do you first transfer an amount ("Bolt balance") into the Bolt app to be tapped as you go or do you wait for the app to book each ride independently ?
  8. In the 80's living and working in Germany for decades, never observed the same.
  9. I used the fast track lane on my flight out of Bangkok in October on the strength of my LTR visa. A pillbox with my sleeping pills had remained in my trouser pocket so they had me hand it to them. They then went on to LOSE it for me. They must've thrown it into another passenger's basket, like staff at baggage check often casually throw things around without checking to whom it belongs. I walked back after realizing it was missing and found them putting into a lost item plastic bag. First time in my life I nearly lost an important item at any baggage check. I hope fast-tracking will bring me more luck in the future.
  10. Motorbikes surge out of nowhere, including against the direction of traffic. To be safe you need your head to be replaced by a flight tower radar. Vehicles in Thailand ACCELERATE whenever they spot a pedestrian. That way it's a sure kill if the pedestrian trips or stumbles.
  11. I was thinking that under RD 743 foreign income was tax-free, period. No seasoning required.
  12. Let me guess. The warning for kratom will be passed. The warning for alcohol will be rejected or watered down.
  13. Age of consents or the enforcement thereof getting nastier and nastier, child custody to women only, false rape accusations .... the whole misandric bag of tricks. Then wonder why men drop out of the family game. Society doesn't want to know of course. This way women can further be showered with incentives while not altering their birthrate one iota. Anyway, too many people on this World already, 8 thousand millions too many by the latest count.
  14. Even if your Thai is much better than their English, what they will do is say "Oh you speak Thai good, how long you be in Thailand?", after which they will return to only speaking their Mickey Mouse English. "Oh you speak Thai good, how long you be in Thailand?" = "shut up with your Thai and let's practice my 15 English words".
  15. Hardly any. I was flamed not so long ago for stating Thailand was, relatively speaking, a prostitution-free country. Well, there you are.
  16. Meanwhile I know more about my condition. What I have is post-nasal drip, maybe made worse by ED pills but not linked to vaping as I haven't been vaping for months now and see no improvement. I also have non-allergic perennial rhinitis. I'd much rather it had been due to vaping as nasal drip is untreatable. I've had a look at nasal cryotherapy (available in Bangkok) but the Reddit reviews from people who had nasal cryotherapy are not encouraging.
  17. "Promises to improve and expand". In other words, expect another round of work, chaos, dust and noise.
  18. Where do you live? I find Thai food very low on proteins. Contains plenty of offal and skin though. Anyway, only one third of blood cholesterol comes from the diet. The rest gets manufactured by the liver. Dieting can lower cholesterol only slightly.
  19. In April 2023 I was turned down at Chonburi on the same grounds. I was told "you want a long-term visa, you need a long-term contract". What I had to show was not a real contract, just an agreement letter stating I was renting for 3 months and what the rent was. When I went to immigration I was 3 weeks away from the end of the 3 months in that condo and I just wanted to get the extension before flying back to Europe for the summer months. This was my 4th extension and the first time I was trying to do it on my own without an agent.
  20. Of course, since in that case you are not a resident or tax resident in Thailand. The Thais never said they wanted to tax non-residents or consider people who stayed less than 180 days tax residents. In fact when the bomshell came out they specified tourists (= stayers < 180d) had nothing to worry about.
  21. From what I gather from many posts here, the UK might be as much of a problem as TH for expats unfortunate enough to have to answer to both the UK and TH while living in TH.
