Australian Aged Pension
scorecard replied to VOICEOVER's topic in Australia & Oceania Topics and Events
thanks for that. A bit more: atocommunity Join nowSign in ATO Community / Your Tax & Super / Income & Deductions What is the tax treatment of Australian age pension when living abroad? An abridged inquiry: ... retiring o'seas soon on Oz OAP. will be non-OZ resident for tax purposes ...therefore I will not have benefit of the tax threshold. My basic tax calculation on ATO site show that I will be paying approx. 30% tax on the age pension, where there would be no tax if resided in Australia. Is this correct? Answer frp https...community.ato.gov.au... follows... Not quite. As an Australian resident for tax purposes, you would pay income tax according to resident rates. This means you'd be eligible for the tax-free threshold up to $18,200, and your tax on the income between $18,200 and $45,000 would be 19c per dollar. You would need to report and pay tax on your worldwide income, not just the age pension. As a foreign resident for tax purposes, you will pay income tax according to foreign resident rates. This means for all income under $180k, you'll pay 32.5c per dollar. You would only report and pay tax on your Australian-sourced income to us. You'll likely be eligible for the seniors and pensioners tax offset (SAPTO) though, meaning you'll get a tax offset to help counter the tax payable. You don't have to be a resident for tax purposes to receive this. You can read about individual income tax rates and SAPTO on our website. further... 32.5cents in the dollar... on Oz oap income???? I've seen it mentioned many times on C.link docs that the OAP is exempt from tax. (Also DVA mentions that all DVA disability compensation payments are exempt from tax. So now totally confused, can someone more knowledgeable please advise. (With all respect username khun heinekin...,please do not reply.) -
Thanks for your reply and your suggestions. Yes the gate is well within our home wi-fi range. I googled Sonoff wifi and got details of dozens of units. Could I please ask you to share some more details, perhaps a photo if possible and some basic details of how it's fitted to the motor. Again, thanks for sharing.

Fitted XXX brand remote controlled electric open/close system to basic household garage gate (one gate extra wide) about 10 years ago. (House location is Chiang Mai. Manufacturer has an agent in Chiang Mai.) Now seem to be having many problems, just one problem: remote control all stopped functioning. Manufacturer quoted 650Baht for 1 new remote control, had to be ordered online from Bangkok. Son ordered online and paid on line. Son discovered the new remote control needs to have a pin no. / code installed. Agent in Chiang says he will come to house (not at his shop) and set the code for 1,000Baht. Seems to be expensive but perhaps I'm out of touch with these costs? Also will sell us a full new machine (with 2 remote controls) same brand for 8,000Baht (price reduced because rack fitted at the bottom of the gate is already in place. On the other hand we did some online research and found well known brands (fully equipped) for 3,1000Baht and up plus shipping from China. But also found newer models with: Full solar panel set up, capable of storing enough power for 24 hr operation, plus basic battery back up. And units come with 2 or 3 remote controls plus full details how to install an app. on smartphones to use as a remote control. Units with both functions mentioned just above, from about 3,500Baht and up plus shipping from China, on Lazada. One small concern is whether the spacing for the teeth on the bar fitted to the bottom of the gate is standard? (Answer to this question would of course answer he question 'Is the cog fitted to the machine standard on all brands?) What would be possible of course is to quickly remove the current rack and fit a new rack which would come with any new brand unit. Further I had an online 'chat' with the manufacturer in China, they will sell the unit (with the 2 newer functions above) but delete the racks from the order and reduce the price by 450Baht. Comments / suggestions / etc., welcome.

And it should not be expected that low paid security boys be expected to apply such charges / demand such payments, not their responsibility.

PM Charged With Breaking Law Over 6,000 Baht Gift To Paetongtarn

There are laws re such matters and the laws exist for good reasons. Surprising that the PM or his minders didn't take care with this to not break any laws. -

There is no such thing as a permanent visa. Perhaps the poster means permanent residence / permanent resident, which is issued as a lifetime certificate for lifetime not as a visa. A visa has an expiry date, some visas can be renewed some can't, in all cases the holder must reapply and go through the consideration process. Permanent residence (or more correctly called A Certificate of Residence*) is issued for lifetime, it has no expiry date, it never needs renewal and never needs review but it does automatically cancel on the death of the holder. (* not to be confused with the simple letter 'Certificate of Residence' which is a 'proof' of address letter as needed to renew a drivers license etc. This is NOT a permanent residence indicator / proof.) -
Let's go back a little; he appeared out of nowhere but introduced as a highly successful very wealthy property developer but nothing more. He made statements about gaining big property sales as though nothing else existed. Endorsed his party's promise of 10,000Baht to every Thai person over 16 yo and with no details / no announced strings / no limitations attached. Now seems he and a few others have realized the country can't afford it, but there are folks of course reminding him and his party that it a specific well announced election promise and they therefore have to deliver or face severe legal action re election laws. Seems they are now lost. But, there seems little doubt the paymaster will be as free as a bird in the very near future. No doubt the paymaster will have some big ideas how to override laws and ethics.

Corrections Dept Told To Not Handle A House Arrest For Thaksin

With the paymaster as the first example. He committed a number of serious crimes, well proven, not kangaroo courts, got convicted and sentenced to many years in jail. Fled LOS before any time served. Then suddenly returned and at same time some other force is at play and looking like he'll be 'forgiven' and back on the streets in the near future, basically no real jail time served. What a joke, but proves there's other very powerful forces at play and the judicial system / practice is just a joke. The good people of the LOS again treated like fools and with no voice. -
Suggest you're overthinking the situation. So what's your strategy...

From one extreme to another: - From the news report currently 6 months + wait for initial approval. - 4.5 years back I returned and applied, all approved within 18 days and received pleasant phone call (at 18 days) from polite young male officer, all explained very clearly and as he indicated a letter in my mail box the next day (same details as phone call) with a direct line no (132 300) to call if I had any questions. Day after phone call, late morning, the back payment was in my Aussie bank account. As said one extreme to another. -

Agree, I believe your referring to a table/chart issued by a Thai gov't agency, which would quite naturally be in Baht. Reality is the foreigners possibly affected in some way come from numerous countries, not just from the USA. I repeat; I believe your referring to a table/chart issued by a Thai gov't agency, which would quite naturally be in Baht. -

1. Many / the more the merrier tourists are good for the local traders. They need money to survive too. 2. Most of us who live permanently in CM have little contact with the tourists and little if anything to be concerned about.
