  1. All true and I agree it's just vote buying and note they are dragging it out to get the most political mileage possible. Let's face it, their patron/idol is a specialist at vote buying.
  2. And we wait and see how violently the taxi drivers react and get away with!
  3. "...Poor people are effed regardless...." A bit blunt but reality. this expensive scheme does nothing to reduce the enormous / disgusting / gross gap in income levels beween the ric and the poor. This can be / should be fixed and it can be done. Move Forward have some good ideas on this subject. I believe that the culprit is greed and the worship of money rather than sharing of the wealth. To the point, this scheme ultimately supports the rich whilst giving some short term breathing room for the poor.
  4. Good point. Seems to me that ultimately you should follow your own principles, I admire your aim to provide into the future for your family.
  5. I wonder if any study has been done to get a 'profile of what/which business owners, by locations will benefit and what are there politial persuasions?' Get my drift?
  6. 1. Obama's nominate for what? 2. Who is Amit?
  7. So you should go to that bank and ask. Why would you assume it's standard? Every bank has different regulations / rules, and of course it's possible the Bank of Thaiand has issued regulations on this subject.
  8. Good point about make the time go quicker. I was able to rent a nice one bed apartment in a War vets village nth of Sydney. (I'm a Vietnam war vet.) Massive rent reduction from commercial rates. The 2 years went by in a flash.
  9. I don't know / understand the full details of the technology. I guess the bank initiates a VOIP connection between the bank and the caller. Then when that's up and running the bank cancels (pulls the plug) on the initial call connections.
  10. The bank also uses the VOIP (free) telephone system for all calls within Australia, massive savings.
  11. As mentioned, the bank I'm referring to in Australia has only 5 or 6 branches in all of Australia, all are very small in size and located in a safe but lower rent area. Overall their rent expenditure would be a small fraction of the rent costs of the other mainstream banks. All of the small branches have very few walk in customers. Customers who do walk in and helped to gain online banking / app banking. The ultimate aim is no branches whatever. They have no ATM machines - customers can use ATMs of other banks but at a fee, however my bank instantly reimburses that fee. They have no answering machines. All calls are answered quickly by a live bank officer, and their policy is that the bank officer cannot transfer the call. The bank is very well organized, they have almost eliminated 'departments', all telephone officers can handle any banking query / requirement that a telephone caller wants.
  12. The Oz bank concerned is very progressive, they set a goal years back to do all banking online or by telephone, not by visits to bank branches. They've pretty much achieved that. Today they have about 5 bank branches only across all of Australia. Their telephone banking service and internet banking service is excellent, and the bank is very serious about security. Staff always polite and pleasant, and very clear with answers, no push to finish the call, always have a 'can do' attitude.
  13. I'm guessing the unseen / behind what the public sees of the US diplomatic service will be quickly telling the Thai diplomatic folks that any allignment to putin/russia will have severe conseqences for LOS.
  14. I call my bank in Oz from LOS by dialing 009 then the county code and bank tel. number. Live person from the bank answers quickly and asks me to confirm i'm calling from abroad. I answer YES. Bank staff then say 'please wait 2 seconds we are transferring your call to secure VOIP call. 2 seconds later bank staff say 'I am now talking to you via secure VOIP telephone system and call rate is free. If you have any objection to please please tell me'. 'No objections'. All done... continue talking to bank, free call.
  15. Naah,,, designed for G and T.
  16. Christian aspect of Christmas dead many decades ago. For me dead 50 years ago after a run in with an army chaplain. Just discussing where to take the family for Christmas dinner in CM on 25 Dec. This year already decided to take a break from Dukes.
  17. I'll save some turkey slices if you want...
  18. QUOTE: "The blue book can only have Thai residents' names." Which includes: - Thai citizens and - Permanent residents.
  19. I call a buddy in Australia several times every week using the basic LINE application. Last time, yesterday evening, still works well, never any charges.
  20. Thanks for sharing. I was told years back at the CM city amphur office, where such cards are issued that I needed to come back later in the day when they would issue my lifetime pink card. Also mentioned that this would be after they printed several pink cards for long-term visa holders which did have expiry dates. Mine, no expiry date - cheewit therefore a different batch of cards. I guess more ways than one to skin a cat, but no need to explore in detail. No more comment from me on this.
  21. Your talking about updating your local Red coveed Thai Police registration book. As well known the Thai police like to have an address for every person in Thailand (includes Thai folks who are 'all' in the Tabien Baan book database). Yes the red police registration book must be updated / confirmed every 5 years, it's a formatlity, yes there's a cost, different cost at some locations. BUT THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF PR. WHEN ATTENDING FOR THE RED POLICE BOOK UPDATE THE POLICE ASK NO QUESTIONS WHATEVER ABOUT PR / CONTINUING PR. PR is issued for lifetime and in inself is NOT subject to any ongoing checks or review.
  22. I can't believe the Thai PMs staff have not told him that there's an international warrant out for Putin's arrest. And Thailand is a signatory to the international court which issued the warrant.
