  1. Ph.D. students more likely to have their reserach materials in their backpack. Ph.D. students focus on their own 'never seen before' insights/philosophies rather than textbooks with mostly detail past real experiences and proven stratgies etc.
  2. What type of mangoes?
  3. I returned from Australia 12 months ago. For a couple of years before that (in Australia) I transferred funds from 2 different K Bank savings accounts (1 in my name and one joint savings a/c son and myself, only 1 signature required) to other K bank savings accounts and several savings accounts in other Thai banks. I used their OTP number by e.mail service. Obviously using K Bank internet banking. All done by a telephone call to that department of K Bank (sorry I can't find the actual number). The OTP number received by e.mail had to be used within a very short period of time, from memory 60 seconds. Not surprising. Not sure if this is still available. Maybe worth checking.
  4. Wow, guess you graduated from the trump 'twist anything' school.
  5. They are surrounded with it from birth. And it's everywhere. My son was told by his frist uni professor (a dragon) 'when you change your family name to a nice Thai name then I will teach you. She proceeded to fail him for every subject for the next 2 semesters. Then a member of dragon lady's staff privately told my son (10,000 cash) and dragon professor will reverse the F grades and also guarantee a passing grade for all future courses. Son had already checked for the same course (which he really wanted to complete) but no other uni had this course. We paid the 10,000Baht under the table . Within a couple of days new notices on all notice boards re grades, all his F grades had been changed to A and B+.
  6. 'Trump bashing'. How's that, he's told so many blatant lies and made so many clearly unthruthful statements, he deserves every negative comment thrown at him. The law applies to him same as any other person.
  7. There's a million stories; i know one farang who kept saying 'arai talay', what e was trying to ask was how old was the young lady. Just one point 'talay' means sea or ocean in Thai. The farang was insistant he was coorect until an older Thai lady politely told the farang that he was saying sea or ocean rather than anything connected to age, she insisted he listen and correctly repeat the words he wanted. Next conversation, many wrong words again. Friends, Thai and farang, have given up trying to help him learn some Thai.
  8. I wonder whether the queen had an emergency passport tucked away in case she flushed the original? For Charles, who cares? Arrogant bully.
  9. Well yes and no and complicated. Many many Chinese business people speak good English and overall the numbers of Chinese locals who speak good/advanved English is growing rapidly. I worked in and out of China regularly, several cities until recently. My experience was to ask high school kids where to find a product, an address, a specific hotel/restaurant and more, and most times the HS kids had quite good English and no hesitation to engage in conversations with foreigners, always polite and keen to help. One time in Shanghai I got a little lost. I stopped 4 HS kids (2M, 2F), showed them the hotel card (5 star hotel). They all instantly said 'only 10 minutes from here down some small streets, come we will take you.' Sure enoght 5 minutes later at the hotel. One of the boys asked if they come come inside the hotel for a minute. I took them all into the lobby and sat them down and explained 'don't run around etc., and they listened. They expected no tips or anything. I bought them all a fresh orange juice, then some ham sandwiches. All completed in 10 minutes and they thanked me and on their way. One of the hs boys politely asked the bell boy if he could speak English. The smiling young man responded, 'I can speak English and German, can I help you?
  10. I visited both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi 3 or 4 times every year to give lectures, only 1 or 2 would take Baht (cash), so I always took US$ to exchange to Dong. Visiting professor colleagues from Melbourne always exchanges AUD cash to dong. I checked and dsicovered that exchange rates at both airports were quite good. I used a VISA credit card many times to pay the hotel bills, always accepted, never any problems. Sometimes paid in US$cash, no issues no hesitation whatever. Many other shops restaurants etc., accepted US$ cash with no hesitation.
  11. De santis is just as scaly as the lying rump.
  12. Trumps made many 'verbal gaffs'' too, as well as the thousdands of blantly obvious lies and untruthes he's sprouted.
  13. Agree, the regulations say must notify change of addrees 1n 10 / 14 days, not sure which. Also, it's possible the new address comes under the juristiction (for PR holders) of a different police station. In this case the PR holder must report to the 'old' police station and tell them he's moved/moving and the old police station prepares some appropriate documents and puts it in a sealed envelope, gives that to the PR holder who has a deadline time to hand the unopened envelope to the appropriate office at the new police station. At new station they will bring the PR into their district records, place a new photo (provided by the PR holder) into the pages where each 5 year/new photo is recorded in the RED book. Failure to do all this can mean fines.
  14. As per title.
  15. And why the mention of 'ex-conscript'?
  16. But you might get black teeth from smoking too much.
  17. Maybe he/she arrrived with a big suitcase packed solid with dirty clothes. Had a friend in Oz who did just that. He had no laundry facility in his apartment, laundry shop very close by apartment in Sydney but very expensive. Getting close to holiday time he packed it all in a big suitcase with one change in his cabin bag, arrived in Pattaya, straight to the laundry shop he knew well. 24 hrs later picked up a very large quantity of frehly washed/ironed clothes, for a very cheap price.
  18. Good for you. I'm also aware of folks who have had a tough time to get to the point of step 1 of Aust. Permanent Residence, remebering that folks have to hold step 1 Aust PR for quite some time (in the case I'm well aware of 2 years) before it proceeds further and eventually getting to the ed of the process, and yes there's a typical pleasant ceremony most years broadcast on national TV.
  19. A bit over the top... Try for PR for Australia, just as difficult...
  20. True of course but let's still have some respect for his attempt to care for the safety of others...
  21. Bring him back, he's a real badass, fine him and blacklist him for 20 years, way too much trouble from this guy. And there's a shoot to kill order on him from the army, but maybe he could sell some life vests to the navy. In any event make sure he brings many fresh long baguettes when he's extradited, and some fresh ham, real nice, better then yankee fast food.
  22. Yep and that would have created more problems. He was punished by severe loss of face, when all concerned / whole village were told by his mother and my son that his claims of 50,000Baht a month from the gov't proven by the embassy to be not true. After all informed that he was telling lies/bs he disappeared for several months. Went to live with his very wealthy Thai part-time LB bf in Chiang Mai.
  23. Once heard a story that in ancient times in Japan when the husband died the eldest son had to fulfill the 'satisfaction' activities with his mother.
