Yes, and some members will no doubt remember the occasional late afernoons/early evenings when there would be police on the streets with megaphones telling all car and bus drivers and pedestrians that traffic was totally jammed across numerous intersections etc. And there was no chance of traffic moving at all for many hours and suggesting that everybody vacate buses and just start walking home, and all pedestrians same. Also in those days it was normal to see people hanging off the sides of buses (outside of the buses) with their arms wrapped around the pillars which contained the windows that could be manually raided/lowered. In this era the total number of air-con buses was very small. In peak hours if you could get on an air-con bus it would be full, jammed tighter than sardines in a can. Getting off at the desired destination bus stop was quite some exercise.

I'm aware of these activities, often called 'Leadership Walk Rally'. Thai banks and other organizations/companies are convinced they build leadership quality and they motivate all staff. But there's no leadership presentations etc. For many years I was a co regioanl director for a large high profile management consultancy, I was based in Bkk because my Thai family was there. The other co-director was a respected, high achieveing Thai man. Many times we were appraoched by the HR managers of banks etc., asking us to lead the Leadership Walk Rally activities but the bank etc., would provide all the details. (Had to be the same as other banks/companies or there would be loss of face. Each time we were appraoched my Thai director and myself discussed the content (laid down by the client) asking them what was the purpose / what was the gain expected from each activity? They couldn't answer our questions. Final discussion points: - 'How does this activity actually build leadership quality, and how would you expect leadership behaviors to permanently change?' - Same question re motivation. They had no answers. Our response: sorry but we are already overlaoded for the next 12 months at least with work already contracted with other clients, but good luck with your 'Leadership Walk Rally'.

First semester (new intake) at my uni, farang professor colleague started the class, quickly there's 2 girls punching <deleted> out of each other in the back row. Teacher told all the other students to leave the room quickly but wait outside. Teacher is quite a big guy, fairly quickly he separted the 2 girls realizing they were in serious dispute. Bottom line, it's 2 tomboys who had agreed before class started that each owned half the room (invisible line down the centre of the room), and if either tomboy stepped across the line there would be war. It happened. Further checking by the director discovered that both tomboys had a large girl gang at their previous high schools and there had been violence many times. Police were called and didn't know what to do. Parents called, didn't know what to do. Both parents left the campus with their errant daughters in toe. Farang goes back in the class room with an admin. staff to take notes, talks to the rest of the students with a series of questions: - Stand up if you want to graduate with a degree. About 30 in the class stand up, 2 didn't.. Farang told these 2 to leave the room and never come back to his class. Names taken. - Stand up if you want at least a B+ overall grade for the whole program (4 years). 5 didn't stand up. Farang told them to stand in a line across the front of the room, then asked each student 'what grade would be OK for you? First one says loudly 'you can't try to tell me what grade I should aim for, and C+ is fine with me'. She's told to leave the room and never come back to teahers courses. Name taken. - Four more just walk out. Names taken. - Admin snr lady now speaks and says, all the students just removed are banned from all classes forever at this uni and their names and students numbers will be reported to the Ed. Ministry later today and I can tell you the Ed. Ministry will cancel their student status forever. - Admin lady talks privately to the farang professor for a clouple of minutes then says 'Class will finish now for today. Tomorow morning I will have a letter for each of you to sign to promise that you will behave like a sensible adult in the classroom and on the campus and be serious about your studies. If you don't want to sign the promise letter don't come tomorrow or ever again but your name will be added to the list to be sent to the Ed. Ministry. Two didn't turn up. The rest signed the letter and no further problems.

It can be registered/noted etc., at the amphur office but to be valid/enforceable it must be added/noted/written on the original land title deed at the Land Titles office. The fee (at the LAnd Titles office is very small, from memory 100 or 200Baht.

At retirement my understanding is that members have 2 initial options*: Option 1: Take a full refund of contributions, or Option 2: Take a lifetime monthly pension. Well said. Here's an extreme example of a farang overthinking his importance / entitlement in the LOS. Very wealthy older farang (gay but that's a side point) been retired in LOS with retirement visa for about 20 years. This year didn't renew his retirement visa and got tip off immigration looking for him, friends bundled him to the airport and pushed him to pay the fine and leave. His resaon for not renewing his retirement visa: - 'But everybody knows how much money I give to Thai boys (meaning over 18), so surely I qualify for not necessary to have any visa'. And he is generous to Thai boys (as said above this is NOT meaning under age), And he 'entertains' many young men in his very large expensive home. His comment is not surprising, that's how he sees life. He's almost never been outside of Pattaya and has no real vision/understanding of what real Thailand looks like, city or country, how society works, survives, how families exist and survive in the rest of Thailand. He sees Thailand in his own gay picture of his ever present image and thoughts of gay life and his belief that every thai boy is desperate for his idea of entertainment. Had this at our house. Son spoke to driver who did have small package. Son says driver seeemed to be quite innocent, just doing his assigned task. Driver did mention he had previously woked for another tpt outfit but just changed because of promise of better payment. Son then told driver 'did not order / will not accept', and closed the door. Driver called his supervisor then disappeared, never seen again.

My Thai son has mentioned this. Both he and his wife regularly buy online. Son and wife order COD for some purchases but always pay using a QR code (the driver/rider has this) and their own banking app. Son says some suppliers are aware of COD real cash total scams and therefore prefer that you pay using QR code because this creates a transaction thread which can be easily followed/checked.

Modern very lighweight synthetic blankets are just as good, totally machine washable, dry very quickly, can be rolled down to maybe just 10% of the overall space of a wool blanket. These have been available for decades, we had them in the war era in Vietnam.

Corruption nowadays permeates everything (actually like this for a very long time already), and nothing of any real impact is being done to reduce and to stop coruption. Part of the problem is that so many cops and gov't officers are involved they don't speak up because they reveal their own corruption activities. In other words the problem just multiplies. The useless PM promised he would stop corruption. He's done nothing. And it's been revealed several times his own close family deeply involved.

Bottom line, he has a very scaly past history but he's now doing a lot of good things of good value for Thailand. I hope he's got good and very alert body guards.

Exactly, basically there's 2 situations: - Wife (anybody) makes a legal will all correctly signed, who they bequeath things to is totally / absolutely the choice / the desires of the person making the will. End of story. - Wife (anybody) DOESN'T MAKE A WILL BEFORE THEIR DEATH. By law this means the person has died 'intestate'. In this situation there's automatic compulsory law detailing who gets what. It's in the Thailand Commercial Code laws. Compulsory.

Your wife can/should make a will and she has every right to bequeath any part of her worldy goods, including any property, to whoever she wishes. Totally her choice. And should be totally without any pressure from family. Past family history cannot dictate how she prepares her will/who she bequeathes things to. In preparing her will she should beware of any 'laws' which are not law. E.g. I'm aware of a case of an officer at an Amphur office who is tasked with helping ciizens to write their will telling a young Thai man that by law he had to leave 100,000Baht in his will to his mother in law. After some checking it was confirmed there is no such law. When confronted with the fact there's no such law the Amphur officer then fell back to a comment 'well it's not law but I think it's a nice idea'. Beware of things like this. But is she DOESN'T make a will (she dies intestate) then Thai law kicks in with a set formula of who gets what. This is all laid out very clearly/specifically in the Thai Commercial Code laws. If she does depart without making a will when the judge/court grants probate of the will the judge/court cannot change the formula as set out in the commercial code. If the family members decide after the event to include a further person as a beneficiary they can, that's entirely up to them and this would be totally after probate has been granted by the court, and not included in the court granting probate. And not included in any probate documents issued by the court.
