  1. It should really never have been on the narcotics list
  2. Decriminalised is a better option , there's a lot to be said for limbo, eg it can still be smoked on election day,
  3. Not to mention freedom of choice, as one can always refrain if one really wants to. The way some create on here one could be forgiven for thinking consumption was compulsory
  4. Agreed, best thing since sliced bread.
  5. And differing "correct" answers from the "experts"
  6. They probably worked hard for their money too. they were tourists on holiday
  7. I don't "kowtwo" to anybody, Neither do I participate in "stand up fights" with uniformed officials. Politeness is the way to go.
  8. It has not been shown since and will not be shown again 2007 was "Pre woke"
  9. Too slow to edit my earlier post, but just wanted to point out that "hello hello" was taken off air as it was not even considered culturally appropriate by the woke BBC to have white English male actors playing white male German soldiers I guess it would have been ok if they had used black women actresses ?
  10. So why was it published in the first place???? An accident? Somebody just sneaked it in under the editors nose? , Anybody been disciplined? of course not. It totally reflects their editorial standards, it was authorised and approved at the highest level, it was put out there deliberately to advertise exactly what they stand for. Of course they new they would have to pull it eventually , but by the time they decided to remove it with the usual meaningless and insincere apology, they had achieved their objective. It cannot be "unseen". A bit like when a barrister lets slip a piece of inadmissible evidence and the judge instructs the jury to disregard it, they can never truly do that. Its akin to a journalistic intentional professional foul and they will have no regrets whatsoever
  11. If swapping "ethnicity" or gender in historical films, the result is going to be a cross between a Pantomime, a "Carry on " film and "Hello Hello" Only the delusionally woke could possibly think otherwise. The ensuing avalanche of positive reviews would be the perfect case of "the emperor's new clothes" coupled with a big dose of virtue signalling If there really was any serious technical theatrical benefit to this ridiculous practice it would have been going on for years, We would have seen Black Hitlers, White Martin Luther Kings, Gay Henry VIII, and Female Winston Churchills many times already over the years,nd we have not, for pretty obvious reasons, none of which are racist or homophobic There was an "ideology" being discussed on the BBC ( where else ?) quite recently regarding whether or not it was appropriate for straight actors to appear in gay roles, one of the reasons being that they could never understand the difficulties and trauma etc of living a gay life, and as such could never really" pull it off" regardless of their acting ability, more than a little insulting to straight actors i my opinion Of course there was no corresponding discussion or questions asked regarding the same potential problems arising should the roles be reversed. It would be interesting to see how a policy like this could be effectively "policed" how would they actually prove their sexual orientation? , it might actually give rise to the return of a particularly arduous and unpleasant casting couch scenario and a new variation of a "me too" movement They may actually be shooting themselves in foot at least as far as historical films are concerned, as I'm guessing there are a lot more gay actors than there are gay historical figures, so work opportunities for gay actors will be significantly reduced, should this ever come to pass On the other hand, any "straight" serious method actors , those who like to immerse themselves totally in character, often going to extreme lengths in the months prior to filming, in order to truly live the part, like Robert De Niro for example, might actually welcome the decision
  12. I don't think having 6!!! "stand up fights" with immigration officials is ever going to achieve anything positive, and could even perhaps contribute to the further problems you encountered more than any issues regarding the chronological order of stamps. "Directing them " where to place stamps or in any other way will not go down well either I may have paid for my passport, but a small note inside tells me it remains the property of "The Crown" and may be cancelled at any time
  13. Other members have mentioned it may be a mask issue , I was wondering if the shop workers who yelled at you were wearing masks ? When did these incidents occur? If it was at the height of the pandemic and you were not masked up it might have been considered a predictable response, but if it was more recently it does appear a bit extreme. Regarding your feelings about kids on motorbikes, obviously it's far from ideal, but you really need to accept that is how things are over here, regardless of the legalities, it is what it is, and is effectively ingrained in their culture, you are not going to be the one to change it. all you can do is be extra careful and alert when driving. KIcking off about it to Thais is not the way to go. Try to imagine how people in your home country would react if a foreigner started complaining that everybody drives on the wrong side of the road OK not the best example but I'm sure you know what I mean To many people bring too much "baggage" here from their home countries, and effectively consign themselves to a life of frustration and conflict . They would do well to remember the saying "when in Rome..."
  14. It would not assure them of anything of the sort ! They would think you are just plain weird. A little bit like the people who wai waiters and kids Although I doubt it would cause any offence, you really should not be dishing out advice like this "gin kao laeo" is not a question... why would you tell a shopkeeper that you have already eaten ? without wanting to be pedantic "gin khao reu yang?" is probably what you meant. However neither that or "bai nai" would be considered an appropriate way of introducing yourself to a shop worker or anybody else that you have never met before, a certain degree of familiarity is required You must get some very strange looks
  15. Oh Good , I thought it was just me, ear buds would be an option but I'd probably burst my eardrums when the explosions and shootouts start. would a sound bar thing, or a 5.1 surround sound speaker set up help or would it make things worse, it can be very frustrating the way it is at present
  16. I signed up myself and (or so) it was all in english but try this ( No guarantees though) but it worked for me ... First you need to create a profile for at least one of you, This simply involves entering a name, and then clicking on 3 movies that you like from a selection of various genres which appear on the screen. This apparently enables them to tailor the kind of movies they offer you to "improve the netflix experience "and all that b/s Me and her have one each, both were originally in english as I opened the account in english I suppose. she wanted hers in Thai, however it was easy to change. and as a result of the 3 films she selected for her profile she gets mainly Thai films offered to her I get mainly English Once you have created your profile or in your case once the GF has created a profile for you, you will get a little picture representing you as a user I think its called an "avatar" click on that and your home page will open up. then a small menu is available in the top right corner click on the little avatar and then "manage my profile" she'll maybe have to do it for you as it will probably still be in Thai but there is a language setting that can be changed to English you should then be good to go. if that doesn't work there is a live chat facility which should be able to help but I think you'll be fine
  17. more tattoos never far from trouble many of the "inked" community
  18. The missis was on the phone to the daughter a few days ago and HBO was mentioned but I have no idea how it compares, Used to have an HBO channel years ago when we used the UBC before it became True but there was a lot of repeats The app may be different The best thing about netflix for me other than the huge variety is the various language / subtitle combinations available and not just for her sake, I don't have a fancy 5.1 surround sound system and I think that may be why sometimes find that the voices are drowned out by the sound effects especially in the "big" movies (tv series generally are ok ) Anybody else noticed that?
  19. I was also enjoying it free as were a few other members of the extended tribe, courtesy of the wife's daughters husband who put the app on my smart tv and gave his password to various other family members last time they came over here pre covid Eventually Netflix caught him out and banned him So I have just opened my own account. the Cheapest netflix "package" is about 99 baht if I remember correctly , but i think it only allows you watch it on a mobile phone ,however I think you can download but its 480 sd the films too There's another package that costs around 165 bht and you can watch it on various devices including a tablet or laptop or TV, most expensive is around 400bt its all on the website Have you considered sending it to your phone / tablet or laptop and and using the screen mirroring function to send the image to your TV. Most smartphones and even windows 7 laptops can do it but win 10 is easier They did it here once when the wifi on the TV started playing up halfway through a film Just a word of advice , it might be worth going for the 165 bt package, which includes TV as an option, as they may have a way to stop you screen mirroring the phone only package. I encountered something similar in the UK with Virgin media and I could only send the Sound to my tv and not the picture as the bloody thing could tell my TV was not a "mobile device" Yes you can just sign up online, I think you need an email address and mobile phone no as they send you a one off txt message with a security code to put into the app there's no minimum term and can cancel at anytime. I'm also old school but its easy enough
  20. Spot on about the steroids, I hadn't thought about that, "juice heads" as we call them in the UK can often be very aggressive one minute and almost suicidal and in tears the next. Wonder if it will show up in a post mortem ?
  21. To fight back against who exactly? The Laos navy ?
  22. How do they know that he did not grow it himself ?
  23. In the way of what ?? Anyway the only useless piece of skin hanging off mine is...well, me I suppose
