To be honest I don't agree with adults being nudged towards or away from anything, especially by governments. give them the information and let them decide for themselves. The incidence of smoking in the UK has indeed been reduced, partly through education, partly through societal trends and mainly by making them so expensive by increasing the tax levy But have those responsible for this really thought it through, less smokers equals less tax revenue. less smokers, means people will live longer, people will grow older , but will still suffer from chronic diseases, in fact the longer they live more and more chronic diseases will emerge, . This will be just as costly to treat as cancer, but with a reduction in tax revenue and a huge increase in people now using the NHS who do not contribute the cost will be much higher ~I heard that somebody, Bill Gates I think, helped fund ,or develop some programme to eradicate malaria in some african countries. I believe it was quite successful, people were not dying from malaria as much , although subsequently deaths from starvation and poverty increased as a result

Well here is another way of looking at things, bars could decide whether they are "smoking" or "non smoking" and clearly indicate this at the entrance, Smokers and Non smokers can then decide whether or not they wish to enter and both groups can enjoy themselves.
