  1. Border is open but today the computers on the Burmese side were down which is why nobody could cross. Once back up and running feel free to do a border hop and a bit of shopping as you so desire.
  2. Neurological hospital OPD on Suthep Road for Pfizer booster. There at 1100 and away by 1120. No queue and only one other person turned up while we were there. Monday-Friday 0830-1200.
  3. There'll be some bars open at that time for sure always are every year.
  4. If you do visit and care for some acoustic music with your supper give The Cojon a look. It's beside Lotus and music starts at 8. Food is Thai and decent value.
  5. Returned from overseas a month ago and completed the online TM30 just to be safe. Went to immigration to renew retirement extension and was told online TM30 not acceptable and should have reported to immigration to update. No fine or anything but had to file a TM30 there before extension granted. Enquired as to purpose of online TM30 but no reply given. Oh well.
  6. Just returned from the CD market and it is operating on both sides of the road and also extends back on one side. Opens at 0500 but pretty quite at 7.
  7. Rajavet is another option and there are several plans you can pick from. For someone of your age would expect to pay around 4,500baht.
  8. Fair enough, cheers. There are other reports out there saying border isn't open for tourists but no doubt subject to change at some stage.
  9. Are you certain it's open for non Thai tourists either for visa run or onward travel? There has been heavy fighting recently near Kawkareik which is 30kms west of the border so not certain the junta would allow through travel at present but maybe visa runs are now allowed?
  10. If problem persists try Agoda.com which falls under the same corporate umbrella.
  11. There's people asking every day here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/chiangmaiexpats/ Yes Tachilek remains closed.
  12. Write it off and get on with the rest of your life. She has.
  13. Problem I have when transferring with Wise is that I select amount recipient is to be credited in the currency of choice and everything is fine until I hit the transfer button and Wise fees are deducted from recipient's funds rather than being added to my charge. How to ensure recipient receives precise amount? I know there has to be a way. thanks folks.
  14. Apply for reentry at same time of renewing retirement extension. Expiry date on both will be the same. When you return your stay will be only up to visa validity date.
  15. If you really want to keep things straight Star Visa will do it but cost is 1,000baht. Typically next day pick up.
  16. Good news. Tell me when you apply for replacement passport are you allowed to hang on to the existing one until the new arrives? Thank you.
  17. Just back from a month in India. Flew Air Asia in/out of Calcutta and wasn't asked for any paperwork at any stage.
  18. + for a more friendly monkey (langur I believe far friendlier than the temple rats) experience try the ones at the bottom of the airbase. Folks normally take bananas and sweet potatoes but for a treat pick up some peanuts in the morning market right in town next to the post office.
  19. Have you been to Suan Luang 7kms south of Bang Saphan? Motorbike taxis meet the buses and trains so easy to get there and plenty of beach side bungalows right there. There are 2 beach bars, Montris & Why Not and several bungalow options between the two. Can't guarantee a Christmas dinner but beach is excellent.
  20. Yes excellent news e visas are restored as are previously issued and still valid 5 years e visas which had been suspended. I still have 2 years to run so happy days. Where you off to? I'm just finishing off a month in India and just a heads up to check air quality before committing to a location. Agra, Varanasi & Jodhpur all had lousy but tolerable quality (150-170) which required a mask at times but spent the past 10 days in the north east where air has been splendid. Enjoy India.
  21. I'm also travelling in India and have the same issue.
  22. Hope you got your visa. I had a torrid time dealing with VFS Chiang Mai and had to submit a second time and along the way was asked for such things as drivers licence, chanote, wife's ID card and bank statement but eventually was granted the visa with providing only the chanote. One beauty was towards the end of the form they ask for something like contact person and I put the other half but the wonders of VFS insisted this has to be the first hotel I stay at in India. Who would have thought.
  23. And this week they are advertising Christmas offerings so someone has it wrong.
