  1. Her English is fine, her minor was English and her major was Italian. She had to do her Masters in English as well.

But there are a few wonders here and there, such as spit and split getting interchanged. My ex interchanged these two words as well, and her degrees were in English and TESOL.

No matter how much education or experience someone has, if it's not their native language, there will be differences.

  2. I looked at building one out of a CB550, 650, or 750 or a Virago 750, but I kept running into a few problems. No plate/greenbook, piss poor condition, or just too far away to go look at a bike, so I'm settling on picking up an er6n. No worries on finding parts that way too...

    If you have the $$$, a w650 makes a sick looking brat/cafe

  3. Recently traveled to Burma/Myanmar, and wow it was gorgeous. Go now before it gets built up into a touristy place like Thailand.

Look at Pagan/Bagan, Inle Lake, and Ngapali beach. I spent 3 weeks there and it was just not enough.

On a side note, I spent the last week in Nepal, Nepal was incredibly smoggy, dirty, poor, etc inside the cities. But outside the cities while trekking it was very different. I don't know your age, but I saw many people in their mid 50-60's doing these treks, and many others who when you looked at them physically, you would not expect them to do it.

If I could find the time, I would love to travel across Cambodia, to Ho Chi Minh, up to Hanoi, over the Luang Prabong and down through the golden triangle and back to CM. Maybe then down to Penang/KL Singapore and over to Indonesia.

Good luck with all your planning! If you are happy with each other's company, you can make any place fun, exciting, and special!

  4. I usually love Songkran, I won't be here for it this year, but last year I did not have the best time in the city, everyone, regardless of race, gender, creed, aimed their damn gun at my eyes and others. I loved getting doused for hours etc, but just going after the eyes nonstop made me want to hit people. Noted this was happening at least every few minutes, and it took a lot to build me up and I would not act upon it anyways, but it was the first time I was not having fun during Songkran.

Also around Tapae, there is a chlorinated water station pumping out fresh clean water. I did get something nasty during my first Songkran years ago. I ended up losing 10lbs in 6 days...

  5. What a clusterfuck that place is now. I went last time at the end of September, popped in during their lunch break, sat next to the ticket machine and was first in line in the afternoon.

I just tried that 20 minutes ago? Wow that place has really shit the bed, no place to park a motorcycle, (maybe in the back?) And tons of people just mulling around with vacant expressions on their faces.

There was no lunch break and the place was fun, <deleted> happened?

I guess I can try lining up at 6:30am on Friday so I can get my reentry permits, I don't feel like losing my visa and doing that all over again...

We don't need a second airport, we need a new immigration center....

  6. How about you? Do you buy into this white skin nonsense?
I prefer paler skinned girls, but the industry of it all is a bit above and beyond.

Do you have a preference for light or dark-colored skin?

I prefer light skin Asians, whether they are are Thai, Korean, Chinese, etc
I also prefer light skinned farang girls, ones who don't tan.

Do you find Thai girls with light-colored skin attractive?
Extremely so, I would flirt with a light-colored girl over a darker girl 9 times out of 10. But I would never shy away from a darker girl just because of her skin tone.
I constantly get asked why I, as a farang, like pale skinned girls or girls which obvious Chinese heritage. Because "Farang like dark girls". I have had that convo a few times a months over years of being here...
  7. Tony's Big bikes do small scooters too. I rented out a ER6n and took it off to Khao Ko and the bike was in great shape.

A proper helmet, meaning DOT and SNELL certified? or something above the bits of plastic you usually see here?

3000-6000 for something like a REAL or LS2

15k+ for Shark, Arai, Shoei, etc

  8. I do believe that years ago when I had them invade a laptop, opened up my laptop and raised it up on blocks, underneath I had bottle caps of kerosene and the fumes drove them all away. You want something that can make them pack up and leave and take the eggs. If you just kill them their bodies can still create a bridge for something to short circuit.

I tried googling removing ants from laptops and kerosene but found nothing.

  9. Trying to find love in a bar. cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Depends on the bar. I met my current girlfriend at second floor. Had mutual friends that brought us all out to go salsa dancing. I thought she was cute, I asked for a dance and she obliged. We quickly realized we both sucked, grabbed a beer sat down and chatted the rest of the night and exchanged numbers.

    Places I have met girls:

Work, through friends, university (I was an exchange student years ago), classic car / Bike gatherings, bike club rides, Bars like: warm up, Monkey, Riverside, Goodview, etc.

I think the easiest by far in terms of finding something lasting is to make some Thai friends and network.

The easiest, is as you mentioned... Zoes and Infinity.

  10. The people complaining in this thread are not complaining about single or a Russian couple traveling. They're referring to groups of young Russians who act the same ways they do in the South. If you have not seen it, go on holiday in Hua Hin, Phuket, etc and see what it's like. True, any group of travelers from one nation with an intent to party is bad enough, but I have seen more than enough examples to trust this stereotype, despite knowing some Russian families living in CM.

  11. I would rather have a ER6n as I stated above and will be getting one once I return from traveling in a bit. But I could be happy with a CBR250 as a daily driver. Great gas mileage, small enough for traffic in CM, great for my 15km commute. Get a backpack for groceries and it eliminates the need for a basket. The bonus would be when I get off the ER6N I won't be shifting the wrong way like I do wit my dream! I hate autos and I always wondered why so many guys here with bigger bikes get an auto as a DD, and now I know... Too bad I can't swing a CBR and an ER, but then I would be getting close to the point where I could convince me a Thruxton was just a "bit" more expensive.

  12. I think ive had enough of this CBR 250 anyone want to trade me for their ninja 250 ?

Life is too short to wait for the CBR250 to hit 145kph.

    laugh.png

well to be fair even the Ninja takes a little while after it hits 150 to go higher

Actually 5th gear gets you 150 but then 6th takes about 15 seconds to reach 160 kph & onwards

The CBR takes like an entire lifetime after it hits 130kph to go any higher.

    Someone find me an SV650

    For 85,000 no book

  13. I agree with others, they're boring if you can afford something nicer.

I have been riding scooters and small 100-125 manuals in Thailand for a few years and finally decided it was time to take the plunge and look at something bigger.

I rented a CBR250 a few weeks back and had a blast, but I was invited on a trip to Khao Kao, 500km away from Chiang Mai. I was informed the smalled bike going was a Versys and I was encouraged to take either an ER6N or a Versys, I chose the ER6N since I am short. Well, I just got back from doing 1100Km in the past 36hrs and I can imagine why I would ever want a CBR250. The ER6N is only 40kg heavier and the powerband is so even that even though it has 3x the power, I never felt shy of opening it up. It was extremely newbie friendly. I will be talking to a dealer ASAP.

Now, if money is the issue, I can see why to choose a CBR, for the price point it is a great buy unless you want to find something older but bigger.

  14. I love Songkran, but I sadly will be visiting the US during it. However, I think it keeps getting orse. Last year I went out 1 day and every person with a gun, regardless of nationality, aimed for my and other people's eyes. It was annoying as hell. So I went with a bunch of Friends to Mae Wang outside of Chiang mai and went camping for the night and rafting down the river. Too and from there were tons of people throwing water at cars, having you slow down first as to 1, get you and 2 make sure you didn't get hit by a 50-80kph splash.

To make up for it, I will be in Nepal celebrating Holi for the first time 2 weeks beforehand.

  15. I have family there, a young brother in law, atually 2 years older than I am. So when I was there we had plenty to do, involving night life etc.

But this is special case, I would be wary of going unless you had people to help show you the local hang outs that are more fun.

  16. yea, though I support free enterprise, preserving what is left of the "old city' feeling, would be a good move for CM tourism...... and ambiance.

My parents had a house on a small beach resprt. The island had a rule, no major chains allowed.

This could be a great rule for CM on the INSIDE of the moat, grandfather the ones there now like black canyon.
