  1. Hilarious 😆😆😆👍 UPDATE: And to the humourless numpty who immediately posted a "Sad" emoji "We know you are, but what's your point?" 🤣
  2. FYI - Any Wise issue appears to be fixed. I transferred from my UK bank on June 03, 2024 00:16:54 BST Money was in SCB (Thailand) June 03, 2024 00:32:03 BST (06:32 Thailand)
  3. Agree - I transferred from my UK bank on June 03, 2024 00:16:54 BST Money was in SCB (Thailand) June 03, 2024 00:32:03 BST (06:32 Thailand)
  4. Anyone who makes that much effort to get a McD's should be instantly demoted! 😲
  5. Yes they would!! I get the FCO advisory emails: last week they announced the 60 day visa exemption and updated the website. Today another email arrived and the website has reverted to 30 day exemption. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand/entry-requirements#:~:text=British passport applications.-,visa requirements,-British passport holders As of 4th May 2024 10:40 BST
  6. And the UK FO sent out an update today reverting to 30 days visa exempt - last week they announced the new 60 day limit...which hasn't been implemented.....yet.
  7. Oh ...beam me up Snotty! So as you ARE the OP - I was correct except it was Belgian doctors rather than Thai. so there, I was incorrect in that I missed your comment "....fly me from my country to Thailand " Apologies for that. But this whole discussion has everything to do with the OP - you! And in your OP you did not mention " I ASSUME that the hospital would have made the Airport security aware about this and would have flagged me (Belgian Travel Airport Security)." which you've only just mentioned. Now I don't know Belgian law, but my assumption would be that the hospital is not allowed to divulge your personal health status to 3rd parties like airport security let alone airlines. If that was the case how come when you ".........found an airline which was willing to fly me from my country to Thailand under the condition that I would take the responsibility." then security relented? Before you jump all over me, please be so kind as to explain all the facts clearly - and I hope your health is now better, even if your temper isn't! 🙄
  8. I presume that the NO-FLY ban issued by the Thai doctors was issued to YOU? If you hadn't told the airlines, how would they have known? Realising that to ignore such a ban is VERY inadvisable, my thought is that it would be your choice whether to obey it or not. Obviously, any insurance would be invalid but I'm still wondering how any airline would know?
  9. I was wondering that same thing. I "Googled" for this and found that individual airlines can operate a blacklist - same as any business can refuse customers if they wish. So presumably, if they're in something like the Star Alliance, others in the alliance might know. BUT.... somebody would have to tell them to impose the ban in the first place. Who? So individual people may be banned by individual airlines. Also: Individual airlines may be banned by countries. Countries can prevent their passport holders from travelling (i.e. the "federal no-fly list" - see link below)) Now interestingly, only 2 years ago Delta Airlines asked the US government if they could create a blacklist of passengers. https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2022/02/10/no-fly-list-delta-ceo/ This tells me that there isn't one, at least in the US. I'd love to know.....
  10. @george As you've helpfully pointed people at the existing thread, would you be so kind as to close this one please. Makes life less confusing. TIA 👍
  11. How does this change affect those who can't or won't stay that long? Not at all, of course. But for all those who can and want to stay longer, it's great news. @smedly you'd be surprised! I was a contractor, and for the final 10 years of my working life I went to Thailand for 2-3 months every year (UK winter) and worked my socks off in the summer! Now I've retired, I still do it except my socks can stay on in the summer 😆 I personally know several people who do/did the same (apart from the socks)
  12. They do indeed. Back in February, I entered on a SETV and the IO stamped me in for 30 days not 60. I ALWAYS check before leaving the desk, and politely told him he'd made a mistake. He apologised, corrected it and stamped my passport again, telling me it was "OK on the system" I had no problems leaving 58 days later.
  13. Can't see that working 😂
  14. Won't that be fun! First off, I'm against this on principle, despite it being "only" 300 Baht - it's actually another 300 Baht and the thin end of the wedge. But, if the airlines won't cooperate, and i don't blame them in the circumstances, and if Thailand wants to collect it as people enter the country, can you imagine the chaos? An extra line to pay (like the old exit tax?) IO made to collect it? What about people who don't have the exact money? What about people who arrive with NO Baht? They're not very clever I admit but what will the procedure be? Forced to use a credit card? Hmmm.......watch this space 🙄☹
  15. I was going to say similar. I believe that if a company is audited and found not to be actively engaged in a legal business then that is illegal. Someone mentioned the nominee companies used for property purchase, I believe this is similar in the eyes of the authorities.
  16. But it's (supposed to be) Buddhist!
  17. Phuket too...... fond memories of going there a long time ago... it was actually reasonably priced too. Had a wonderful lobster meal for under $20. You must be as old as me 😂 I remember Phuket as an unspoilt (almost) tropical island with lots of jungle, (great for the Hash House Harriers) superb almost deserted beaches and, apart from Phuket Town, very little concrete. To quote Joni Mitchell: "They paved Paradise and put up a parking lot" As small as Koh Larn is, it's heading that way.
  18. I would have thought that, almost by definition, a digital nomad isn't likely to spend 180 days in one place(?) Isn't that the idea of being one? Otherwise one is simply a working expat with all that entails.
  19. Which seems like a damn good excuse to revisit........
  20. But would you not agree, that ignoring the (il)legality, digital nomads aren't likely to bother about visas because unless they're spectacularly stupid, no-one's going to know they're working rather than holidaying? I'm not advocating this behaviour just suggesting that this is the most likely situation.
  21. I was about to post exactly the same thing. Koh Larn was lovely and quiet and clean back then. Now..... YUK! Reminds me of a mini version of Phuket ☹
  22. In order of your points..... Interest is itemised on any bank account I've ever had - just show the statements - as you say - attention to detail Open new account(s) now for the future reporting, make no mention of the new accounts to Thai authorities. Bit of a PITA, I grant you, but resolves those two problems. This all shows the usefulness of keeping all bank statements pretty much forever. Easy these days now it's all online.
  23. FWIW, the UK government believe this is now official https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand/entry-requirements#:~:text=British passport applications.-,visa requirements,-From 1 June and the FCDO usually gets these things right (if not much else 🙄) They updated it at 3:59pm (BST), 30 May 2024 but so far the Thai Embassy in London have NOT updated their website https://london.thaiembassy.org/en/page/exemp-visa
  24. I see - on that you're probably right but of course a digital nomad might have old savings that (s)he could show as their source of remittances to Thailand, but I take your points.
