There were some at the end of the road I lived in as a very young child in the late 50s / early 60s. I never went inside one, but they were apparently very comfortable.

I hope that was said in jest... OOI, the only time I've got really sick from food in Thailand was when I ate a chicken schnitzel from a very clean-looking Western restaurant. Other than that, I've eaten from hole-in-the-wall Thai places, market food courts and street vendors with no problems.

No way. It might be the major driving force in the areas you mention, but have you travelled outside those areas and looked around you? A lot of the Thai people in rural Thailand have no concept of what goes on in the tourist areas - some are actually quite shocked when they see it for the first time.

IMO, this and your previous post, are both spot-on. "They" don't know what they want and various departments, whether Government or not are continuously shouting about tourism - sort of "he who shouts loudest and last, wins"

Agree. How is this even newsworthy? 7-11s are franchises, so each franchisee is given certain rules that they must follow, then guidelines as to what additional services they may offer. After that...up to them.
