" And to break it down further the Country top level domain is actually .th with thaievisa.go being the second level domain. So wherever one is in the world, one hits the domain thaievisa.go.th which represents a website containing webpages to which you are directed depending upon your data input (i.e. answers to certain questions including location and nationality) To illustrate I've used the site from the UK in 2023 and 2024 - the data input required from me (documents uploaded as an example) has changed in that time. Posting here to reply to all who mentioned my "woke" comment earlier, not just @spidermike007 and @flyingtlger to whom it was initially directed. I get what you're all saying about Thai women and "woke" and yes you're probably correct, especially in comparison with Western women. My comment was more about the Press and other media, who do tend to follow the West in some areas - reporting in a "Woke" style seems to be one of them.

Thanks. I spent quite a long time remastering many of my own LPs - my friend to whom I referred above taught me. As I always looked after my vinyl, I needed to do very little actual signal processing, leaving the few unwanted artefacts in situ. I say remastering rather than digitising because I took the time to insert gaps between tracks, perform cross-fades etc. A "labour of love" I can assure you. A few of my LPs though needed "declicking" or "dehissing" type processing. Then..... I discovered Torrent sites....but that's a different story. 🙄 Btw, if you happen to be into Jazz / Blues, look out for reissues using CEDAR technology - It's been called "Photoshop for music" by a professional engineer - some of the 1920s/30s music don't arf brush up nice. 😎

That's because there's not much else to show. One guy does apartment tours posing like a prospective renter, sometimes gentlemans clubs. Only thing left of interest to most people are bars and go-go's which you can't really take a tripod and camera into and actively film. The girls don't want to be interviewed. That leaves just a bunch of street shots and the same old babble, here is lk metro, here is soi pothole, etc. Same stuff hundreds of guys have filmed before. I agree, and having "dipped in" to both the websites mentioned, subscribe to neither, however for newbies to Pattaya it gives them an idea of the place, as long as they realise that both sites are heavily influenced by the producers' opinions.

I'm being deliberately contentious and somewhat pedantic here but IS a bar a private place? If it's open to the public, it may be private property, but is it not still a public place? For example, in UK there are pubs owned by companies or individuals with Saloon and Public bars. Remember the devil is in the detail, especially in matters of law. Being in my sixties and having been an audio enthusiast since my teens my take(s): I own excellent though "vintage " audio kit - Quad electronics, Spendor speakers, early Linn table, SME, Stanton, blah blah - all state of the art in 1990! Oh and s couple of Denon and NEAL cassette decks which were always a compromise, no matter how good quality they were. Back then when my ears were better, I did loads of comparisons between LPs and CDs, even buying LPs like "Love Over Gold" and "Dark Side of the Moon" on both media. I always tried to get "DDD" CDs - (young people see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPARS_code ) At the time I was in regular contact with a BBC Sound Engineer friend who had almost perfect pitch (the ratbag) and owned similar kit and who for the last 25 years has been re-mastering old and valued recordings to digital formats. I, along with my friend, came to the conclusion then, that, although TECHNICALLY analogue should be better than digital, unless the analogue is perfect, digital usually betters it. Since then there have been myriad advances in digital sound production, few real advances in analogue and the world has moved on. Except......... my ears have obviously degraded, although I have excellent hearing for one of my vintage and of course, the ears are still analogue! Audio reproduction has ALWAYS been about "The closest approach to the original sound" as Quad used to advertise.. I'm currently sitting at my PC listening to FLAC recording of Van Morrison's latest album on a Creative Sound Blaster and speakers - it sounds great but still better on the Spendors in the next room. Thing is, either way vinyl doesn't enter the equation. It's rather like asking if a 1990s LP compares to a 1920s 78 RPM record. Oh and on my next trip, I'm bringing a few hundred "albums" on my laptop / tablet to play over my JBL headphones - try carrying that lot around as LPs! I hadn't experienced cannabis since a trip to Cambodia in 2011 where I enjoyed Happy Pizza But, last year, in Pattaya, I bought a small box of "cookies" from one of the shops openly selling them on Soi Bukhaui. I ate one in my hotel room and the effects were VERY noticeable - yup, I was stoned...but very happily! I'm well over the age of consent. (Old enough to know better!) 😃 My minor dilemmas are: Was I legal at the time? - I think the answer is yes Would I be legal to do that now? What if I shared said cookies with another adult? What if, having consumed said cookies, I / we went out in public WITHOUT taking remaining cookies but still being well under the influence? NO plans to drive by the way. These are all questions which, were I to be in UK, would be relevant and could easily cause me problems but I can't fathom out what the answers are in Thailand.

I agree, especially when they use weapons as in this case. I also agree - sadly it's a sign of "woke" hitting Thailand as it has in other countries. The victims are too often disregarded in favour of the transgressors.

No it's not misleading. The OP reported using thaievisa.go.th which is the starting point and most importantly, the "THAI E-VISA OFFICIAL WEBSITE" That's important to confirm to the OP that we're on the same homepage as it were and not using some other unofficial site. Therefore my comments that followed were accurate and relevant. Certainly, when you enter your nationality and location, it directs you to the appropriate web pages but it is still the same, official web site. I'm in UK but using the same website to apply for visas. In 2023, I had 2 one-way tickets for my trip instead of a return ticket. I combined them into one PDF and uploaded that. There are several ways to do that as have already been suggested; my method was: I use Windows, so used Snipping Tool to take images of each tickets drop the images into a Word document, 1 page for each ticket and identify each as "Outward ticket" and "Return ticket". Then, save that as a PDF. The file size limits are told to you on the website but if the PDF uploads successfully, then its within limits. Also, later in the process, you're given an opportunity to check your documents.

I agree with what you say and initially disagreed with "The BBC cannot detect a VPN per se." I use iPlayer normally, then switch "My Norton" VPN on: Note the region is set to UK however BBC iPlayer now shows: I switch the VPN off and iPlayer works again (after a refresh) So yeah, doesn't actually SAY it's a VPN so your explanation makes sense - they must just see an all-too familiar IP address and of course, Norton 360 is used by many people worldwide.

May I say that is one of the fairest and most balanced views of religion I've seen for a while. I've lived in a Muslim society and predominantly Christian ones and grew up amongst a lot of Jewish people. I'm no religious bigot, in fact I'm a complete agnostic and have neither belief nor disbelief in any of them - my view is "if it works for you, great, but leave me out of that particular discussion, please don't proselytise and don't abuse it to create problems for others" All 3 religions that you mention theoretically believe in the same things - the Bible, Koran and Talmud are very similar - yes I have read parts of all (in English) BUT.... when politicians and extremists get hold of them, the true nature of them vanishes - which is a facet that, again, all 3 of those religions share.

Just re-reading this thread and I wouldn't be too sure of that. As an experiment, whilst sitting in my home in UK I switched my VPN on and tried to connect to the BBC iPlayer. It immediately blocked me citing the VPN. Switched VPN off, and BBC worked fine. My point is that the BBC have the technology to detect a VPN (which is well-known) then I rather think major banks may have too.

Similar to you in terms of multiple accounts - but one of my UK banks requires authentication for every login, either by a card reader or SMS - my choice each time Another states that a SMS containing a one time code will be sent at random logins and that seems to be the case (although doubtless there's an algorithm controlling the "randomness" somewhere) I've just tried both of those using Norton's free VPN and both work. Oh and yet another account will also send a SMS "randomly" Not doubting your word but I find it odd that you're using UK banks and never getting SMS's although I do not use any banking Apps on my phone - all mine is done on a PC. Obviously the phone is used to receive the SMS's!

I realise you're discussing US banks, but in the UK, most banks will need to send an SMS to a UK number in order for you to log on. Some of them used to send an email but no more. When asked they usually mutter something about it being a Financial Conduct Authority rule but I'm not entirely sure they're correct.

The uncharitable might suggest that you look to see who really owns Mellow, and do they have a "tea pot"? 🙄

Having just got a SETV from London (I'm Brit, living in UK), I recall one of the questions asked was "What nationality are you?" - obviously my passport proved that. Another was asking for "Document indicating current location" and I showed the proof of my UK residence. (Council Tax bill) I was also asked for Travel booking confirmation – I used my return ticket UK-Thailand-UK. You say that he has a ticket "flight from US to Thailand" but can he show himself leaving Thailand or is that a single ticket? You did say that he's been asked to show "onward flights to another destination" That's usual for a tourist visa - they want to know you're going to leave after the permission to stay expires, I imagine. This is probably what has tripped the applicant up. If it was me, I would reply to the email explaining the situation - can he show a "Document indicating current location" do you know? US hotel bill perhaps. Another approach might be to waste the 30 UKP and apply again to the appropriate Thai Consulate in USA, who might of course deny it for similar reasons! His last resort, as others have said, is to enter without a visa, get 30 days and either extend it or do a border hop. I think to do that, he'll need to show the airline a booking leaving Thailand within 30 days. All a right PITA!

The law was changed after the coup. You could buy alcohol from super markets between the magic hours if it was more than a certain amount. The change caught me out. Very annoying... Thanks (and to @Bangkok Barry ) Still doesn't explain the anomalies... The situation as it is doesn't bother me especially as I can spend the time in a bar of my choice, just another example of "TIT" 🙄

Perhaps I misunderstand this but I've frequently gone into bars of varying sorts in Pattaya in the afternoons and never been refused service of a beer or liquor drink. There's no attempt to hide the service - some of the bars are open air or right on the beach road. Some of them also sell food so could be defined as restaurants. I've equally frequently seen the fridges in 7/11 etc locked closed in the afternoons. So is it just restaurants who are supposed not to sell alcohol between 2 and 5pm? Not all these places can be openly flouting the law even in Pattaya...can they? Also, the article says it's a 50-year old law, but I'm tolerably certain that I recall it being introduced in the eighties. Confused....me..... YES!
