  1. I would doubt that many Thais can distinguish between a Canadian and American accents - especially the northern US states. I as a Brit have trouble telling "Canucks" from "Yanks". Now Rednecks I can tell immediately..... Y'All! ????
  2. Exactly what i said - to put it more clearly, (just for you) if you think you're out on a date and are asked for money, other than for the food, drink, etc then you're actually with a hooker - anywhere in the world. Clear enough for you?
  3. Or, to put it another way, if you're paying her, she's not your date / girlfriend, you're HER customer!
  4. Nothing!!!! Ladyboys ain't that tough! ????
  5. Reminds me of..... Q: How do you tell what clan a Scotsman belongs to? A: Stick your hand up his kilt - if he's got a quarter-pounder, he's a McDonald
  6. Have to ask the Mods to pin that one ????
  7. This is possibly the problem. Not going to Thailand JUST for this so if that's it I'm stuffed (a technical term!) What's really annoying is that I actually asked at SCB in February if if they were continuing with SCB Easy or not - I was assured it wasn't going to be removed......TiT ???? I'm using my UK phone but the OTP messages are going to my Thai phone. I might try putting my Thai SIM into my tablet, getting connected and then removing the SIM (or disabling it) and trying it on Wi-Fi. I'm purposely leaving it for a couple of days in case the error message is actually a system problem. I shall update here as and when.....
  8. Easy....you'd be a bit of a dick to miss one of them.????
  9. Despite being scared, little Jimmy goes to a dentist advertised as being painless. When he came out, his mother asked him if he agreed that the dentist was indeed painless. "No", said little Jimmy, "When I bit his finger, he screamed just as loudly as anyone else."
  10. Thanks for that @Crossy. ???? I was unaware of that and have now attempted to use the App - so far with little success. My comments on the thread you linked to.
  11. I too am in the UK. I cannot register using the App on my tablet as it's WiFi only. My Thai phone which does roam successfully is too old to download the App so I installed it on my UK phone using 4G. I get to the point of choosing a PIN but it keeps telling me "no information available - try later." I shall but don't hold out much hope. Even if I do it means I shall have to use it on my UK phone using 4G which is no help when I'm in Thailand!!! Unlike you @Chivas my card IS 6 digit PIN but every enquiry costs 100 Baht if used overseas - hardly an attractive proposition. So for the next trip I can see me being forced to carry cash....pity because I've had this account for 25 years!
  12. For a good lady taxi driver I recommend Dar - in April I think I paid 1200 from Central Pattaya to SUV. Good car, careful driver.
  13. At least you went into it with your eyes open, knowing what might happen. I was offered similar nominee deals when I was thinking about buying on Phuket more than 25 years ago! In the same way, I was offered a 30+30+? deal on a lease. I was told by 2 trustworthy individuals (they do exist!) that both arrangements were "technically" illegal but that it "might work, and many people do it" The message was loud and clear: At my own risk! Knowing that a) I'm not wealthy enough to risk losing that amount, and b) I didn't want to go into retirement worrying that one day, I might lose my home, I declined. I have never regretted it - I can always go to Phuket to visit if I want, and, it turns out that, as much as I loved the place back then, I now never wish to see it again...but that's another story.
  14. That's rather a conspiratorial view @Peterphuket. Here in UK lots of ATMs are disappearing for sure, and some are because of vandalism but many were not being used enough to justify their existence - they cost to maintain, keep filled up etc. That's partly because many people here are CHOOSING e-payments over cash - I've recently put Google Pay on my phone - it gets me through the supermarket far quicker especially when I use the shop's self-scanning device, which ALSO gets me points and cheaper prices. Win, win, win! Sure, I PREFER to use cash for small amounts but won't be heartbroken if I cannot, and I do agree that we should have a CHOICE. As for being tracked, well every time you use your card in an ATM, you're tracked - lots of them have cameras nearby, but the bottom line is that for all the transactions in the world, the authorities don't have time or resource to bother about we little people - they can't even keep up with the criminals! Why in theory, I'm being "tracked" posting this but am I bothered?
  15. They've just bin having fun ????

    second hand books

I agree and when travelling the Kindle is indispensable. My last trip I took 90 books...in my bumbag! Didn't read many but a wide choice of reading matter was always there if I wanted it. And, if you do it right, many of them are free (same as music and video) - even if you pay for them, Amazon and Bookbub offer you regular very cheap selections.
  17. Only when you're wearing your glad rags????
  18. Interesting, thanks for posting, but when I get where I'm headed, I can put the whole "man bag" in the safe and don't need to think about washing it. I think I'll stick with my "man bag" but of course, each to his own.
  19. Same, same but different! ????
  20. And every one was an "enery" (Sorry....just spotted @ballpoint beat me to it)
  21. Bummer of a view too ????
  22. All the stuff you mention plus when travelling passport, tickets, phones (one UK, one Thai), Kindle, pen, spectacles daily meds. As i said in my earlier post, very handy when travelling, going through security - I just place the bag on the belt and retrieve it after going through.
  23. Bit but a mate of mine got drunk in Pattaya one night and a ladyboy approached him on the street (he says ????) and lifted his phone out of his shirt pocket. I keep mine in a zipped shorts pocket...and avoid ladyboys as it happens!
  24. Brilliant post! Especially where you say "Don't like my look? So what? Means less than zero to me" Abso-bloody-lutely!!! Anyone who wastes their time and energy worrying about MY appearance is a very sad individual and can "do one" By the way, i have a very similar bag to yours - ideal when flying and going through security.
