  1. That's rather a conspiratorial view @Peterphuket. Here in UK lots of ATMs are disappearing for sure, and some are because of vandalism but many were not being used enough to justify their existence - they cost to maintain, keep filled up etc. That's partly because many people here are CHOOSING e-payments over cash - I've recently put Google Pay on my phone - it gets me through the supermarket far quicker especially when I use the shop's self-scanning device, which ALSO gets me points and cheaper prices. Win, win, win! Sure, I PREFER to use cash for small amounts but won't be heartbroken if I cannot, and I do agree that we should have a CHOICE. As for being tracked, well every time you use your card in an ATM, you're tracked - lots of them have cameras nearby, but the bottom line is that for all the transactions in the world, the authorities don't have time or resource to bother about we little people - they can't even keep up with the criminals! Why in theory, I'm being "tracked" posting this but am I bothered?
  2. They've just bin having fun ????

    second hand books

I agree and when travelling the Kindle is indispensable. My last trip I took 90 books...in my bumbag! Didn't read many but a wide choice of reading matter was always there if I wanted it. And, if you do it right, many of them are free (same as music and video) - even if you pay for them, Amazon and Bookbub offer you regular very cheap selections.
  4. Only when you're wearing your glad rags????
  5. Interesting, thanks for posting, but when I get where I'm headed, I can put the whole "man bag" in the safe and don't need to think about washing it. I think I'll stick with my "man bag" but of course, each to his own.
  6. Same, same but different! ????
  7. And every one was an "enery" (Sorry....just spotted @ballpoint beat me to it)
  8. Bummer of a view too ????
  9. All the stuff you mention plus when travelling passport, tickets, phones (one UK, one Thai), Kindle, pen, spectacles daily meds. As i said in my earlier post, very handy when travelling, going through security - I just place the bag on the belt and retrieve it after going through.
  10. Bit but a mate of mine got drunk in Pattaya one night and a ladyboy approached him on the street (he says ????) and lifted his phone out of his shirt pocket. I keep mine in a zipped shorts pocket...and avoid ladyboys as it happens!
  11. Brilliant post! Especially where you say "Don't like my look? So what? Means less than zero to me" Abso-bloody-lutely!!! Anyone who wastes their time and energy worrying about MY appearance is a very sad individual and can "do one" By the way, i have a very similar bag to yours - ideal when flying and going through security.
  12. Pretty much back to "pre-Covid" situation. People suggest having equivalent of 20,000 Baht in currency on you when you arrive. This is apparently a rule, but I've NEVER been asked to show it since 1985!!! I personally don't like to arrive anywhere without some local cash but that's my choice. Oh and a VERY FEW places are still requiring masks (SCB on Pattaya Klang for example) so perhaps stick one in your hand luggage. Bon voyage
  13. As a point of order, if you were in London, TfL no longer accept cash. Card, phone or some sort of pass only. We old gits are lucky 'cos it's free! ????
  14. Does this qualify as "Gross behaviour"? Worthing: Man caught on CCTV stealing 144 bars of chocolate
  15. I have an account with SCB. In February, I noticed that all the 7/11 stores in Pattaya that used to have SCB ATMs no longer had them. When I visited my branch, i was told that SCB and 7/11 no longer had a contract. Nobody knew, or was prepared to say, why. As it turned out, the Bangkok Bank on Soi Bukhau has a set of other Bank logos on its ATM, including SCB. I then found that cash withdrawals using my SCB card were free of all charges.
  16. And I'm so old, i know just what you mean! ????
  17. Can't see it for that price ????
  18. You have to wonder at the stupidity of some people: "Additionally, tourist visa applications now take up to 15 days to process, compared to less than a week before the pandemic." So you're going on a holiday and amongst all the other arrangements cannot apply for your visa 2 weeks early? D'Oh! The tax, of course is another matter - 20% is extortionate, IMO.
  19. Art for art's sake "true' art is utterly independent of any and all social values and utilitarian function....." Or, in plain English....it's ****ing pointless ????????
  20. Just before you try that, make sure you're logged in as an Administrator and / or try booting Windows in "Safe Mode", then delete the file(s)
  21. Sorry - I was replying to your "...After 3 boosters, still caught covid. There is a clue there too!" and assumed you were referring to yourself - my bad. Here we have yet another incidence of 2 people disagreeing about vaccines. Most of your points are perfectly valid, (IMO) especially your comment about choice. I do disagree with your comment "half-proven" because i think there is now sufficient proof that they work - my choice and I don't intend to have that argument again, just agree to differ. Here in UK vaccines are free to all and I have had all that I've been advised to take - 'flu and Covid. I have had no side-effects from the Covid shots, oddly though, a few hours after my annual 'flu shot, I usually get 'flu symptoms for a couple of hours. That does actually show that the vaccine is reacting in some way and now i expect it to happen, just don't let it concern me. As for the pharma companies, it's partly thanks to them that I'm alive and kicking due to other health issues, so in some respects, I am already a "hostage" I suppose it helps that, at my age, I at least don't have to pay for meds, and once again, they are doing me nothing but good. Choice is a marvellous thing ????
  22. That gets my Norton A/V all excited Still works though. ????
  23. snowfl is mine
  24. It's unlikely that you can uninstall preloaded apps as they're in firmware but you can just ignore them and do as others have suggested and use Google Maps via Bluetooth (or cable if necessary). Very slightly as it concerns a Toyota rather than an MG but the same principles apply and I've found that to keep the maps database updated on an in-car system is very expensive and / or time-consuming and of course, the update is only current for a few days. Whereas, Google Maps is about as current as it gets and is constantly being updated. I've found it to be far more "user-friendly" that most in-car systems too. For notification of speed traps and other hazards, try "Waze" which actually draws on Google Maps for its information. As regards the manual being in Thai, have you tried the MG website for an English version?
