PM Departs for US to Attend ASEAN-US Summit
swm59nj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
All those illegal aliens going across the US border. And let’s not forget all the western expats living in Thailand illegally. -
Politicians make jokes about mental health and gullibility
swm59nj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
Unfortunately mental health issues are not taken seriously in some Asian countries. Not just Thailand. They also tend to just medicate the patients instead of providing proper counseling. -
How dating a Thai caddie can improve your golf game
swm59nj replied to ASEAN NOW News's topic in Golf in Thailand
It would be nice to have an attractive female as a caddy. But I sincerely doubt that is going to improve your golf game. Especially if she is only employed for her looks. -

Thai man stoical after finding maggots crawling in his chicken dinner
swm59nj replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Times might be hard. But you can still be clean and maintain cleanliness. I’m kind of surprised this made the news. Obviously that is not the only place that has unsanitary conditions. They would have to have a separate news program to report it all. -
Is it worth getting a second COVID-19 booster?
swm59nj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
Most people don’t judge getting the vaccine based on health or protection. They base it on if they have to pay for it or not. Being able to buy booze or when the bars will open normally seem to take precedence over everything else here. -
What happens to my child if both parents die?
swm59nj replied to jack71's topic in Family and Children
First I’m sorry to hear that you and your wife have health issues . I wish you all the best. I don’t have any advice to give you personally, just a suggestion. I would speak to a reputable lawyer for advice. This way you can get a definitive legal answer and you do it properly. I know talking to a lawyer and having them handle it would involve cost. But it sounds like you are good parents and thinking of the best for your child. And you want to make sure the situation is handled correctly. -
Bangkok Making Preparations to Declare Covid-19 Endemic
swm59nj replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Don’t worry the night life and bars will probably get back to normal soon. So most people have something to occupy their time with. Looking back at the posts about Covid over the time period. Most of them dwelled about the bars being open or not. -
I like the way some people say there are more crimes in the USA and other western countries. Try watching the Thai news every night. See how many crimes involving murder, robbery, rage, assault happen in Thailand everyday. Act like very little violence and crime happens here. In reality there is a problem with crime here. So just because you dislike your home country or couldn’t afford to live there . Don’t be turning a blind eye here.

Are we coming to the end of the pandemic in Thailand?
swm59nj replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
Kind of odd that the numbers drastically dropped almost overnight. Especially since all the talk lately about tourism and changes. -
Where to invest now?
swm59nj replied to Troy Tempest's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
When I retired I had to reinvest my retirement plan from the agency I worked for. I went to an investment company. The money was put into an account with only 20% stock. The rest was balanced out in different types of investments. This was the least risk I decided to take. This is commonly referred to as an asset allocation fund. It did increase during the last few years. But of course I lost some money during the market’s downturn lately. -
I’m single and in my two years here I have spoken to and met Thai women. Many of them have asked if “ I’m looking to take care”. They would either ask this in text or after meeting in person. And yes. Like others have said. It does seem to mean if you are going to take care of them monetarily. Even if you barely know them. When they say this I stop contact with them.

I would like to see it come to Bangkok. Never had a chance to try it in the states. But the reviews are very good. Jotnar brings up some very good points regarding the type and quality of the meat that the company can get. That would be a factor in the taste.

There still is an official rule regarding mask wearing outdoors. I live in central Bangkok. The majority of Thais are wearing masks. The majority of foreigners I see are not. Personally I feel that if you are outdoors with not crowds of people around, a mask should not be needed. But unfortunately in many areas of Bangkok you are around many people. Unless very early morning or late at night. But a rule is a rule. Like it or not. But it seems many foreigners move or visit another country and feel they can do as they please.

Since you have two young children and work from home. I would suggest living near some of the larger parks as some suggested on here. The parks mentioned are nice to walk around and spend time in.

It’s just amazing how those numbers decreased so drastically as tourism is trying to come back

From what I hear about the pollution in that river. You would probably glow in the dark from eating any fish in there
