  1. Maybe Thailand would be more attractive if they had a welfare system for expats. This way expats with barebones income and no health insurance can be eligible for welfare benefits.
  2. I purchase salmon from Gourmet Market in Emquartier Bangkok. It’s Norwegian salmon. I don’t think the product is that great. But it’s the least expensive. Price varies if it’s on promotion or not. They also have an array of other types of salmon at higher prices
  3. So I guess you have to give every establishment a positive review according to the law? Even If a person didn’t have a good experience?
  4. Why close it? Don’t close or restrict anything. Especially the bar areas . It can be the start of the “herd immunity” some people talk about. You might get Covid. But at least you will have a chance to get those cheap drinks. And maybe a bargirl talking to you acting like she really likes you.
  5. So the air quality was good for one day. I guess that means everything is ok.
  6. It is stated in the article that the variant will eventually effect everyone. It is impossible to know that. And logically I doubt that. No one in the world gets or has gotten every disease known to man. And every single person in the world will not be infected with it. We still need to get vaccinated. And still need to take precautions. Hopefully eventually things will adjust so we only have to get vaccinated once a year like a flu shot. As for the people that think this is all a way to make money. There were people speaking on television who refused to get vaccinated for numerous reasons. They caught Covid. They were crying how bad it was and wished they got vaccinated.
  7. A Filipina tourist walking on Soi 20 at 2:15 am? kind of odd. Especially if she might have been walking alone.
  8. Retired at age 62 in America. No issues with retirement income or health insurance. I didn’t move to Thailand because I disliked America or couldn’t afford to live there. I always wanted to experience living overseas. All of the places I did want to move to did not have retirement type visas. So decided to try it out by moving here. I did visit Bangkok for three months before moving here. Staying in a hotel. It seemed ok, so I took the chance and moved here months later. I have been living here about two years now. Without going into detail, it’s not for me. So I will eventually move back to America. America isn’t perfect. But it’s better than here.
  9. I think there are more serious issues to look at other than the price of pork
  10. I’m surprised it’s not more the way this thing is rapidly spreading all over the world. Hopefully it doesn’t spread like wildfire here. But it just might happen. All we can do is our best to protect ourselves.
  11. Unfortunately there is basically just speculation on the time frames. The rule of thumb is basically six months. But again no clear cut rules . For example. This past June I had one Sinovac. July I had the second Sinovac. Then because it was Sinovac I was given a booster of Pfizer in August. Shortly afterwards I purchased one Moderna at Samitivej Hospital. They advised me to wait at least six months to get it. So I will take it in the beginning of February.
  12. Yes it deals with contamination that’s why there are controls. And all countries have individual custom rules, not just America. I just love when people make anti American comments in the forums that have nothing to do with the topics. I find that the majority of the people dislike their own and other countries because they could barely cut it there. So they blame the country. Not themselves. Then they move to Thailand and can barely cut it here. But I bet some of these people ran to get the Pfizer vaccine when America donated it.
  13. Just an update. I know the original posting is old. I have been trying to locate dry mouth products in Bangkok at the present time. I have been to numerous places including Tesco, Big C, Gourmet Market, Tops. None have it. I also have spoken to my dentist. He said products such as this are not available in Thailand.
  14. Unfortunately Covid is taking its ugly toll again. The Omicron being highly contagious. Not a good idea for bars to open. Honestly this bar issue always seems to be a hot topic. It gives the impression that one of the main reasons for a number of people to visit or move to Thailand is for cheap booze . And hanging out in bars.
  15. There are cloth face masks that are N95 and N99. Which are better than a paper type medical mask in any store. For example. I use an N99 mask which has three layers. I purchase them from a major mask company in the UK.
  16. I have not seen any type of news reports regarding US relations with Thailand being negative or problematic. According to the US embassy in Bangkok, the relationship appears positive.
  17. All the vaccines drop in efficacy after a certain period of time. But there is a difference. Especially when you have a vaccine such as Sinovac which only starts off with 51% efficacy compared to one in the 90’s or 80’s .
  18. Thank you for the explanation Khun Jeff. Now I understand this Gateway issue better. I thought it might be causing a problem with the OP’s issue. But I see it should not.
  19. Not want to go off topic. But wanted to add some information. Jaizan wrote he pays on the True app using the overseas credit card. I have been doing this also for two years. For the past month I receive an error message every time I use my overseas credit card with True. I called True last night. The person told me there is an issue with the Gateway. And they are still working on it. I have been using the same card on the Food Panda app. Yesterday I tried using it. I got a system error message. Last month I tried using the same card on the MEA Smart Life App. Same system error message. I called my overseas bank. There is no issue with the card. I’m not familiar with this credit card gateway. But hopefully this gateway is not effecting any other type of transactions.
  20. Well there goes tourism. And it’s going to effect some expats having the desire to move here.
  21. Don’t be too concerned about explaining Christmas to her or if she understands it. Just get her a nice gift and show you care about her. That’s what’s most important.
  22. Living in Bangkok for two years I really don’t see any savings compared to when I was living in the west. My rent is about the same as my mortgage was on the home I owned . ButI if I rented an apartment in the west it would cost me more. I mostly cook my own food. The price of groceries is the same or even more for my weekly shopping compared to the west. Prices ordering food delivery or eating in restaurants is about the same I paid in the west. I realize you can save money by living in a room like the locals do. Eating street food most of the time. Or living in a small city or rural village. I visited Hua Hin , Chiangmai, and Pattaya. Housing seemed cheaper than Bangkok. But prices on everything else appeared to be the same. But lf you don’t want that, I really see no point in moving here and putting up with the hassles.
  23. This survey appears to be based on tourist interaction with Thais working in tourism. Of course they are going to be friendly and good manners. But actually living here for a period of time , one will see the reality.
