Good luck to you. I can totally understand your frustration. The Thai's feel almost as uneasy about foreigners as the Japanese, let's face it, the rules aren't going to change in a culture that defines itself by the idea of superiority and the the importance placed on calling out the "non-Thainess" in others. As for me, I wouldn't move to Central or South America without a good command of Spanish. Moved to Cambodia in 2019 (lived & worked in Thailand 2001-05) and am really happy here. Not expecting permanent residency or to stay here for the rest of my life.

It depends on your departure airport. On that note, I loved EVA & stopping over in Taipei that much, I traveled to Vienna & Amsterdam to take them in biz, spending 7-8+ hours on a train or a bus to get there (terrible shared lounge at AMS though). Of course, Taiwan will remain closed for int'l transfers for an indefinite period. That's what you get for messing up your country's vaccination effort. I hope EVA will be able to survive. Singapore Airlines would be my other choice but I feel it's a waste to pay 4k or more for a flight (my EVA flights were on UA miles).

Unlike others here, I feel for you. Thailand has never been known as the land of reason & common sense, it's all about appearances. Of course, it also depends on how "you lost it-face" when you did. The difference to other similarly minded countries is that if you point out that the emperor is indeed naked some local often gets seriously angry at you. Best to know this, before making a long term commitment. PS I live in Cambodia now and I haven't encountered this so far (apart from mentioning once that spraying the money isn't really necessary - but then, it's theirs after you hand it over, they can do with it whatever).

Booking flights on airlines that just returned most of their BKK flights for the next 6 months is not easy. Anyway, just my opinion, the well prepared & vaccinated can come for a longer stay but it's not the time yet for a short Thailand vacation for most and I would advise everyone to wait and see until next year. We're not out if the woods yet.

Are you unhappy in Thailand? But, you don't even know it?
Mr Dome replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I believe every drinking establishment - once they're open again - should introduce an Unhappy Hour ???? -
I seem to have missed the announcement that the unvaccinated aren't allowed in. Or did you mean without any quarantine, just like the vaccinated? ????

Put it all down, don't leave out the best part but present the full picture: Organized by whom at the very top level, above Mr. White Uniform here and the likes of Hun Sen, the UK Tory government, Macron, Modi, Duterte, etc. (just to name a few) ? Who is orchestrating all of this then and giving them orders?

Can we trust the Thai government to keep its word on November 1st?
Mr Dome replied to Scouse123's topic in General Topics
OP, I think you know the answer to your own question, if you have followed the country's internal politics at least somewhat. -
Why would you be "sick of it" if others are having a different opinion than you. There isn't just one taste & ours isn't the benchmark. While I felt the same/similar about Thai street food when I lived there and about Cambodian street food now, that attitude ruins the post. Eat & let eat ????

Udon police arrest Swiss expat who killed armed intruder at his home
Mr Dome replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Sadly, honesty doesn't get you far in Thailand. The Swiss guy should have packed the intruder up - hopefully when still alive - and driven him in his tied up to state to some place out in the countryside with some water, legs not tied. Then, made a pact with his wife never to mention it again. "Never seen the guy, Mr. Policeman." If a Thai dies and it looks like you caused it, even if he/she tried to kill you, you're in deep trouble.
