but charbucks is THE place to be seen with your macbook
... that was always their marketing message and business model, incl. a couch.
Go back to the US and complain to their HQ's with their SBUX ticker on Wall Street.
It has nothing to do with Thailand ... the whole and complete World jumped on it!

i thought international corporate chains all charge about the same prices everywhere?
Yes, same price ...
But when you earn 180$ per day in America, a set Big Mac Menu is reasonable.
But when you only earn 300-500 baht per day, it's not.
Go figure.

7/11 are cheap, I would never purchase in the West 7/11 too expensive
True, 7/11 here very cheap, and IMO have a lot of good things (I know, it's personal, many won't agree), but I love going in there ... good for me.
Funny thing .. ask any Thai where 7/11 comes from .... ahh, from Thailan of course ;-))
No, from Amelica!
Really? Thais in disbelieve ... they all thought it was 'their' 7/11, only from Thailand ????

... and then, why blame Thailand ... where does all this over priced franchise Western stuff origins from, which spreads out all over the world?

The list of overpriced items in Thailand is huge. Of course, it's what the market will bear. If you don't have a market the prices will drop. Who's the fool, we are.
I mean, then you can throw in McDonalds as well ... on ratio ... how expensive is that here in Thailand, compared to what people earn on average daily?

Yes, agree.
What's wrong with a 50baht cup of coffee/latte on a road trip Amazon break at a patrol station?
It's ok value to me.

But Starbucks occupy good positions and for those making one drink last hours for a comfy seat and free wifi it's a good deal, well in their eyes.
A comfy seat ... actually, a lot of comfy seats and sofa's, that was the key of their business model.
I remember, I once read book about this and the key message was:
We don't only sell coffee ... we provide a comfort place to sit down and enjoy a coffee, a place between the workplace/office and your home!
... subsequently, how many other coffee shops have started to copy this model, Costa etc.
The initial idea was good ... it's a bit expensive, yes ... but you can sit comfortably on a sofa with a cup of coffee and some wifi being online.
That was a few years back ...
Now it's overrated, time moves on. Everybody copied it already.
No one needs Wifi anymore ... 5G is coming 5555

What is this crying over money? Are you in a prison? No. So, leave. Go to another country where it is cheaper........it's an EASY fix. Oh, the Thai Baht is too much for you .... OK, too bad, try Cambodia or Laos or another place. You have options in this life:
1. complain, cry, complain, get mad, complain, complain
2. do
Oh, yes, so serious! Don't talk about anything and discuss it. Especially not on an internet forum.
A discussion forum is only there for people to not post and talk about things like this.
Get over it ... people talk and discuss a thousands of things as they like!
So leave, go to another country, it's not a prison ... you are hilarious!
Good you are not a moderator or PM 5555

Yep, I get what you say, the favorite list. But that's not what is happening.
Back in the hey days, as you say, ... the mobile phones where there to keep a contact list
... a bit boring low season and you would get sudden random text messages from girls you have met before.
You are part of that contact list ... which got played up and down.
But that's not what's happening today.
Today, they use their phones to 'actively' market themselves online to get 'new' customers/boyfriends etc.
However you want to call it.
No need for them to hang around in a bar all day long anymore ...
Wait for 5G, it even will get better 5555

Whatever it is ... it's good to see the discussions and people being able to open up, on this forum as well as on the streets of BKK.
There certainly is a change on the way.
Just a few month back, no one dared to speak up.

The bars don't need to change, the rules and enforcement need to change - back to what they were a decade or more ago. Remember fun?
But if the bars don't have the same attractive girls anymore as back then, what now in future?
There is much more to the "bar's as we know it more than a decade ago" story ... other than only rules and enforcement.
The girls are not the same anno 2020 ... they all got a mobile in their hands, and they know what to do with it ????
And I say, kudos to them.
Don't open a new Bar in 2020 and try the same old same old with older ladies and play connect 4 ... it will not work anymore

Whilst talking guitars I can't resist spreading some gospel.
I have had two electric acoustic guitars for over 1o years but never heard them run through an amplifier. Now I have more time and am playing more I decided to invest in a practice amp and after a lot of research I bought this a month ago :
It is every bit as good as all the rave reviews say. Totally brilliant despite its small size. It does absolutely everything except wash the dishes and I can thoroughly recommend it to any guitarists out there. At 2300 the best thing on the market. Even has built in drum machine. So good that I am now about to buy a telecaster copy to run through it.
Ok, thanks ... I will look it up. It looks neat!
Since we are all not really 'playing guitar' at home, but more practice/repeating the same kind of riffs, licks etc. ... that can be really annoying to the neighbors.
If you play electric, it's good idea to get an external audio device, a good head set & install "Guitar Rig" on the laptop/computer to emulate hundreds of amp's/sound settings, is a great solution.
Also very easy to download all sorts of backing tracks from YouTube and mix your tracks together with "Reaper", if you want.
I'm very happy with that kind of setup.

You gave 2 of the worst examples...location location location !!
Yes, it's ok. As I said, no need to go into super detail.
Any of those Bar's with only ugly and fat ladies behind a mobile phone are not a future way for successful bar business and booming, that should be clear, the overall picture.
I only thought it was always funny to park a car in Action Street without Action.
Location is ok, you can walk into other bars around from there.
Relax, don't go mad on me man.I also can't help the down trend ????

There has been several changes of government since Thaksin and Purachai brought that asinine policy in and it hasn't been changed.
Yes, not changed, but strongly enforced.
Definitely you could go into a 7/11 a few years back at 15pm and got a beer.
These recent days, even some mom & pop shops are suggesting to take care and hide, someone is looking, reporting etc.

Thais need to lower their prices: Starbucks coffee more in Thailand than Berlin
in Phuket News
Posted · Edited by RedPill
Exactly!
Mc Donalds meal only -17% cheaper
but ...
Average monthly income ... -73% less
Go figure.
Where does all that franchise stuff come from? Not from Thailand ...
I also would rather not see this <deleted> here in Asia, but you can't stop the US corporates from filling their ever greedy and expanding businesses throughout the world.
