Most of the time it's not worth it, until it is. That is just how insurance works. There is a fairly well known travelling vlogger that just got diagnosed with a brain tumor. It caused him to suddenly lose the use of one side of his body. Also seems to be having some mental problems. He just got medevac'd back to the UK after weeks in a Sriracha Hospital in ICU, including a brain operation to take a sample. If he didn't have good travel medical insurance paying for it all it probably would have wiped him out financially.

Thai Hotels Object to 75% Foreign Condo Ownership Proposal
shdmn replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
How would anything change with less than 30 day rentals if the foreign ownership quota increased? I am pretty sure lots of those are thai registered. A lot of condo buildings don't allow less than 30 days anyways. -
Thai Hotels Object to 75% Foreign Condo Ownership Proposal

Serious question. How would this increase competition with hotels? Can people not already rent out Thai registered condos to foreigners? -
Top-Secret US Aquatic Drone 'Manta Ray' Spotted on Google Maps
shdmn replied to Social Media's topic in World News
So according to the story this is top secret stuff that shouldn't be public, but the post also includes a youtube video, with close-ups, produced by Northrup Grumman. 🤔 -
Government to Lengthen Foreign Land Leases and Condo Ownership
shdmn replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
If they can extend it on a whim, what would prevent them from shrinking it just as quickly? Possibly forcing everyone who purchased over and above the 49% limit exposed to having to sell as Thai owned. There are lots of different ways farangs could get screwed over by this. -
Whatever you say. https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_countries_result.jsp?country1=Vietnam&country2=Thailand

Online eVisa - stuck on accomodation
shdmn replied to KunMatt's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
A booking confirmation PDF for a couple nights on Agoda seems to do the trick based on my experience. No need to have the reservation for the entire time. Of course, its always possible that it will be different at different consulates and depending on who looks at the application. -
Yes, for some parts of the year it's basically unliveable.

Disagree. Outside of District 1 HCMC Vietnam is cheaper for pretty much everything.

Yes I know what it says. That is why I came on here and asked the question if I can get it done in Bangkok instead. Others, who have presumably entered Thailand as a tourist and done it, are implying it's possible to do this in Bangkok. You were also trying to tell me in your previous post that I can get this done in Hong Kong, which contradicts this latest post of yours and is not even an option for me. So if you want to know where the confusion is coming from, look in the mirror

Internet banking on Linux: Anyone know a bank in Thailand that supports this?
shdmn replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in Linux
I've been running Linux servers for over 20 years and even I still use Windows Desktop. There are some things you simply can't do on Linux Desktop because there is no app. I could probably get used to using Linux desktop and work around the things I can't do, but there is no need and I don't feel like making my life more difficult. There is one thing that I simply cannot get around and that is my business accounting software. That will only run on Windows and that is probably my most important app, with literally decades of business history on it. It's irreplaceable. I have an old laptop that cannot be upgrade beyond Windows 10 so I will probably put Linux desktop on that to extend the life of it. I personally would probably go with Debian Desktop, just because I feel very comfortable with Debian working from the CLI. -
I am not flying to Hong Kong to enter China so getting a visa in Hong Kong is not an option. I am not near a Chinese visa center in Canada so getting a Chinese visa in Canada is not an option. Now you seem to be saying that as a western tourist entering Thailand visa exempt I cannot get a Chinese tourist visa in Bangkok, so once again I am back to being confused.
-
Yes, it appears that an agoda reservation would probably suffice according to the info at that link. Sounds easy enough. Chinese Visa Center is only about a 10min walk from Phetchaburi MRT.

I am not in Hong Kong and have no plans to go to Hong Kong.
