Where to travel in Thailand in October
biervoormij replied to CharlieH's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Who do you think is correct? This says "Wing Khwai (Buffalo Racing Festival) Dates: October 20 to 28, 2024 Location: Chonburi A vibrant celebration where farmers race their decorated buffaloes in a friendly competition, showcasing local culture and expressing gratitude for the animals’ contributions to agriculture. " But TAT Chonburi facebook has the event on the 8-16 October. -
Am I too late for online 90 day report?
biervoormij replied to CallumWK's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
When did this change take place? I had not heard about the change and just did my online report on the 30th of September for a 1st of October due date and it was approved with no issues. Do you lose the week if you report a week early so it turns out being a 83 day report or are they now giving 90 days past the due date? Thanks for the information, I will change my calendar to do the next report a week sooner. -
What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2024)
biervoormij replied to Rimmer's topic in Entertainment
I downloaded and watched "The Thicket" yesterday. It is not a great movie but I still enjoyed it. I usually don't watch anything with an IMDB rating below a 6 but noticed this film had an Rotten Tomatoes score of 80. Do you look at the Rotten Tomatoes score when deciding to watch something? I would rate this movie about a 6.4 so above the 5.8 it has on IMDB but well below the 80 it has on Rotten Tomatoes. -

The summary you read was not very good or you misunderstood. The national sales tax was a comment about Trumps plan to put tariffs on all imports. What she said is at about the end of the following 2 minute clip.

My name is Colin Neville from Dorset, I am not ‘Bob’
biervoormij replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Hello Collin, Look on the bright side no one is calling you BigBird. He is another member that likes changing names but somehow I think you already know that. -
The US DTA does not cover IRA or 401K distributions so not exempt like social security or government pensions. I don't know how the Thailand RD will deal with this but saying it is exempt is not correct. I think if you are taking large 401K distributions you will have to pay the much higher Thailand tax rate.
-
I do the same with my US taxes. When I have run my numbers it will be a little less than $10,000 but high enough I will most likely leave Thailand. I hope they give me a year to spend down the 800K setting in my bank before I leave. Doesn't Cambodia also have global income tax or are you just planning on spending half the year there?

Not sure how a man that has driven as many companies into bankruptcy as many times as he has can be considered a good choice for running a country. His new company when it went public opened and spiked and has lost 77% since in a booming market. If he would have taken the money he got from his Daddy and put in the S&P500 he would be worth more than he currently is. Not sure how anyone can think of him as a good businessman.

Pattaya eyes one-way system traffic shake-up to Soi Buakhao

What is the direction of the proposed one way? Is it starting at Pattaya Central Road going to South Pattaya Road so south bound one way traffic or the other direction? What will be the new baht bus route? -
Driving from Pattaya to Buriram - what to see along the way?
biervoormij replied to rocket2's topic in Pattaya
If you are going to visit Prasat Muang Tam and Phanom Rung Historical Park the follow 3 sites could easily be added. Prasat Ban Bu Kuti Rishi Ban Nong Bua Rai Kuti Rishi Ban Khok Muang I am sure you will be the only person at each of these small ruins. -
The Royal Barge Procession will be taking place on the 27th of October. If someone has been to watch one of these in the past and could provide any information or recommendation I would appreciate it. My understanding is it will go between Rama VIII Bridge and Wat Arun. I would like to know if attending one of the major rehearsals on the 15th or 22nd October would be just as good but maybe with less crowds? If you have recommendation of places to watch the procession and any idea on the time of the day it would be helpful. I am a bit worried I will wait for hours and then go find a toilet and miss the procession passing.

When is a foreigner considered a local in Thailand?
biervoormij replied to RSD1's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I am known as a local in most of the bars I visit. -
Do you ever feel like a prisoner in Thailand?
biervoormij replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Bob I think you are like Brooks in the movie The Shawshank Redemption. You can't handle life outside of your self imposed prison. I hope you can find something that will bring a little bit of joy into your life. Look for the good things in Thailand rather than focus on the bad. -

Don't all you listed except the Philippines still tax you on global income? -
I am not a tax expert but I do not believe this is always the case. The US and Thailand have very different tax rates. This is really the case with long term capital gains and qualified dividends. The US tax rate for long term gains as a single person. 0% Up to $44,625 15% between $44,626 – $492,300 20% Over $492,300 $44,625 is equal to about 1.6 million baht. You would owe $0 in the US if this is your only income and is all in long term capital gains but In Thailand you will be going through the different tax brackets and possible be paying 25% on part of your income. Also a single person in the US gets a $13,850 standard deduction in 2023 which is also 0% taxed. I am not 65 so get a lot lower deduction in Thailand. If you have capital gains in the US you may want to really think about how this tax will impact you but like I say I am not an expert. If someone see errors in my thinking please correct me. I ran my numbers from my 2023 tax return and if the tax stays based on remittance I think I will stay in Thailand but if it becomes based on global income I think I will leave.
-
Jim this would not be true in my case. The US and Thailand have very different tax rates and exemption. I get about $14,000 standard deduction in the US. It is my understanding I would only get 150K at a 0 rate in Thailand and 90K standard deduction or about $7,000. I also can earn $40,000 in capital gains in the US with a tax rate of 0%. That would put me in the 25% tax bracket in Thailand. I don't have the US taxes to absorb the credit from Thai taxes. I think this change would cost me close to $7,000 a year. Unless I missed something or misunderstood something, I think If this happens I will leave Thailand.
-
No one has talked about the remittance tax that has put in place this year. If I were to bring in 400K to meet the 1.2 million or 700K to meet 1.5 million in addition to my living expenses I could possible be hit with a much higher tax rate in Thailand. I don't have a lot keeping me in Thailand other than I like it here. If I have to pay a 25% tax on 700K to meet new retirement visa requirements I think I would leave.

Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival Locations and Dates
biervoormij replied to biervoormij's topic in Isaan
TAT put out the festivals of May on their webpage. The Yasothon and Katwa have been talked about on this thread already but the Roi Et in Suwannaphum from 29th of May to the 2nd of June is new to the thread. I also found the Ku Ka Sing Festival flyer in Roi Et as well. If I understand this correctly you would be able to see rockets in Ku Ka Sing on the 1st and then in Suwannaphum on the 2nd. -
