What to you use to track your finances?
biervoormij replied to biervoormij's topic in IT and Computers
I don't have that program but have heard that the subscription fee is much higher than what quicken charges but a wife has many more features that quicken can't support. -
I have been using the program quicken for over 30 years. In the past each time I bought a new computer I would buy the latest version of quicken and load my past data in the new version. I think it is time to upgrade my computer but looking at quicken they have gone to a subscription type of service where I would have pay a fee each year to keep using quicken. Do you use something that keeps track of all your financial accounts in one place and would you recommend it? I am thinking it might be best to convert to using a spreadsheet.

Taxation of Ex-Pats pensions etc.
biervoormij replied to LittleBear57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I think bringing the money over before January would be smart. You don't have to spend it on the new truck but avoiding any possible tax seems like a smart thing. I have transferred money into Thailand to live on in 2024 just so I can live my life without worrying about how the Thai government will implement this change. I personally don't have a lot of trust in the Thai government not trying to tax ex-pats. I hope it is not the case but they already tax the interest I get here and they feel it is ok to charge me more in the hospitals because I am a retiree. -
Just finished my first Dunkel and all I have to say is. I like beer, it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow. Whiskey's too rough, Champagne costs too much, vodka puts my mouth in gear This little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact I like beer.

He could go up through Nakhon Nayok and then ride through Khao Yai National Park. This would be the long and slow way and he would have to pay the national park fee but should be a good ride. I went from Pattaya up through Nakhon Nayok and around the outside of the park this year and the highway was not bad. I spent 2 nights before getting to Phimai but I made a lot of stops on the way and was on my 155 scooter.

I visited Wat Khao Angkhan at the top of an extinct volcano earlier this year in Buriram but seems the one you visited is different. Would you recommend a stop at Kradong Volcano if I happen to be in the Buriram area again in the future? Thanks for sharing all your travels.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2023)
biervoormij replied to CharlieH's topic in Entertainment
I finished the first season of Bupkis the other night and for me it was worth the download even though I would not give it the 7.3 rating that it has on IMDB. I seemed to have missed it when it came out and don't think I have seen anyone talk about it on here. If you are not a Pete Davidson fan or didn't like his movie The King of Staten Island this may not be for you but I enjoyed Joe Pesci as his grandfather. -

I think this is a valid point. I personally fear my US account being hacked or closed more than my Thai account but I should reduce my balance in my daily used Thai account so if I do get hacked I will lose less. Do you think the ATM withdraws without using a card that Thai banks offer is safer? I have not used this but may start after losing my card this week.
-
I had an ATM eat my debt card this week. I was glad it was a Thai card and I could go down and get a replacement quickly. I have a fee free US debt card but try not to use it often in Thailand. I have read on here in the past that someone had his US accounts closed because the bank said he as living in Thailand.

Thai poll lists arrogance as their #1 complaint about Farangs.
biervoormij replied to charleskerins's topic in General Topics
Wow! Farangs that live in Phitsanulok seem to have made a very bad impression on the local Thais. Glad I don't live there.- 123 replies

How Time Deposit work in Thailand ?
biervoormij replied to zenplay's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Also be aware that they will take 15% of the interest you earn for tax. You may be able to get a refund of this 15% if you get a tax ID and do the paper work. -
I would suggest a little more thought should go into picking a title to your post but maybe this old post will provide some help.
-
I think the trip to go get the $20K would cost me a lot more than the tax but sounds like a good plan if you go home every 2 years anyway. Not sure if I will be affected but to be on the safe side I transferred some money to Thailand so I have enough to live on. Hopefully there will be some clarity on this change prior to needing to do another transfer.

Ever wanted to do an extreme walk or something?
biervoormij replied to bignok's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
This was in the news a few months ago. The link I found is from a site not allowed on here so just a bit of the text. British expat James Lee Valentine went on a 1,000km journey to raise money for children. Valentine, 59, wanted to raise 1 million baht for Take Care Kids, a children's foundation based in Pattaya. The walk from Pattaya to Phuket covered 1,050km. The 48-day walk ended on June 6. -
Is kindness something that works in life
biervoormij replied to bignok's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Kindness for me rarely has to do with money. It is helping some one when they fall, it is holding the door open for someone when they are carrying something. It is a smile a nod or a wave. It is pointing someone in the right direction when they are lost. I have received so much kindness in my life life from other people that there is no way I can ever replay what I have already received. Is it something that works in life? I have no idea but it would be a miserable world without it. I will keep trying to be kind to people every day no mater if it works or not. I feel good when I am kind to others so I guess it works for me.- 59 replies

The world is burning down... So what are you up to?
biervoormij replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Reading this post and what pops in my head. "We don't need no water let the Mother F-er burn. Burn mother f-er, burn." I guess this just shows my age and bad taste is music but the video put a smile on my face today. -
I find the problem is that there is no information on how it will be implemented. I do not currently have a Thai Tax ID and still not sure if I will need one. I hope this will be a lot clearer by the time I do my next extension. I have enough money in the country to live on until I extend my stay. After that I will have to decide if I want to bring more money into the country or start spending my 800K.

You keep saying 30-day report. There is no "30-day report". A TM-30 is a "Notification of Residence" and should be done within 24 hours of moving to a new place. It is also required if you leave the country and re-entry under a new visa or visa waiver. When you got fined the 800 baht you should have received a "Notification of Residence". Look at the paper work that they gave you after you paid the fine. If you have not left the country or moved since this fine that paper work should be a valid TM-30. Just take the papers you received before and go to immigration to file the 90-day report. You should not be fined again. I would take a copy of your valid lease and a copy of the landlords ID with you as well and of course your passport. Also the form for the 90 day report is a TM-47 not 48 which you have the title of the thread. If you go 7 days past the 90 day date I think the fine is 2000 baht. Good luck at immigration.

My answer was correct to your question. You seem to ask a lot of silly questions. That may be why you get some silly but correct answers.
