  1. Hey Bob, see you in the bar in a few hours so we can have another stimulating conversation.
  2. I assume you have come to the light about the down side of being a minimalist? What made you change your mind from thinking you would be happy with a mat on the floor to think sitting on the bed to watch TV was not acceptable? I think I am a bit of a minimalist but never have I considered a mat on the floor without a fridge to be a possibility.
  3. I thought you were going to be a minimalist. The following is from a post of yours a month ago. "My dream eventually is to sell up and move to a small 1 house in isaan in the country side Thailand and have no clutter to live as a minimalist , not even a fridge Just a mat on the floor , a small drawer and not even a tv " Seems like 19 sqm would be roomy with only a mat on the floor. I just moved from a 40 sqm condo to a 29 sqm condo in a different city. Will have to get use to a little less space but think it will fill my needs.
  4. You may want to look at Cat Ba island as a different approach to Halong Bay. I took a boat from Halong city through Halong Bay and it dropped me off at Cat Ba. I enjoyed 2 nights on the island and don't recall the island being really touristy. That was 15 years ago so no idea how it is now.
  5. I only did the tourist trail in Vietnam but the one place I visited that no one has talked about is Ninh Binh. Hope you have a great trip and please update us when you return on what you found to be the highlights.
  6. Well it is decided. The next time you need to kill off a month it is off to New York for you. Kyoto is on my to do list but don't think I will do a month there but a month in Japan would be wonderful.
  7. Can you give an update when you finish the LOST series? I stopped watching just because of other things going on in my life but think I had friends tell me they lost interest in the later seasons. If you think it is good all the way through I will have to download it.
  8. Why limit yourself to Thailand? A month is time enough to get over any jet lag. I have not spent a month in a single city often but have done it in Bangkok. I guess you could also count the last 3 years I have been killing time in Pattaya. I have also done a month in Amsterdam, Mexico City, Bogota, Istanbul and Kiev but none of these match your Thailand limitation.
  9. I was late in hearing about the hit song Rich Men North of Richmond. I since have seen the following YouTube video and think it is worth watching. Better to get the meaning of the song from the writer. He seems to be unhappy with both the right and the left trying to use his song. He
  10. I have heard the act of giving can be very rewarding. If you are giving your money away you will have less to worry about and maybe bring joy to someone in this world.
  11. I love the Lonely Planet books and still use them but now the e-book versions. They hold such a wealth of information and I usually felt I saved the money I paid for the book within the first week in a new country. Did anyone buy the cheap copies they use to sell in the backpacker areas? You had to try and go through the book before buying it and see if pages or sections were missing. I had one where one section was upside down from the rest of the book.
  12. I visited both the Na Jasa Tai Chue Shrine and Wat Saen Suk after a night in Bang Saen. I think the shrine was the more impressive site but I sort of enjoyed the wacky and weirdness of the garden. I had never heard of a Buddhist hell prior to visiting the garden.
  13. I believe that is Na Jasa Tai Chue Shrine. In that area you could also visit the garden of hell or Wat Saen Suk.
  14. Thanks for the info on Wat Khuat. I have visited Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew in Sisaket or the temple of a million bottles earlier this year. I now have another temple to add to my list and have to make another pilgrimage to pray to the powerful god of beer and his wonderful and tasty elixir.
  15. I made the mistake of going into this 7-11 in Pattaya a few weeks ago and it was full of a tour bus of Chinese. I left and went to a different 7-11. I have also seen youtubers do videos on this 7-11.
  16. Thanks for the reply. A 6W is a lot bigger than I need so don't worry about the contact details.
  17. I went to Vientiane Laos to kill off my O-A and got my new Non-Imm-O while there. I found it a really simple process there. Applied and received the visa 2 days later. You need to make an appointment to apply for the visa at the Thai embassy in Vientiane. I would review the embassy webpage for the requirements but if I recall correctly I had the following. Passport Application Passport photos Bank Letter that I got the day before flying to Lao Copy of my passport Copy of my Lao Visa and entry stamp 2,000 Baht
  18. My understanding of the insurance requirements for the O-A increased to 3 million baht not the 400K that you have stated. I think the increase was in September of 2022 so a bit surprised if you did an extension in December of last year that you did not have to have the 3 million coverage. I left Thailand with no re-entry permit to kill off my O-A due to the increase in insurance requirements and am now on a Non-Imm-O.
  19. I found your post from a year ago. I am going to be moving and not finding any reviews in English. I was hoping your could let me know if you moved with lala or deliveree and if your experience was a positive one?
  20. I downloaded the recent movie Inside Man. I thought it was a decent watch but looking at the IMDB rating now it is at a 5.6. I thought when I looked at the rating before downloading it it was around a 7. Watch at your own risk. If you watch if I would be interested to know what you think it rated.
  21. You could go to hell if you haven't been already. Last year when I visited Wat Saen Suk or the garden of hell and found it sort of different but since then have been to at least 3 other wats with hell images.
  22. Would a giant guitar be something you are interested in? I rode past Suriya Land this week on my way home from going to the dragon boat races and was surprised by the giant guitar.
  23. I often read posts about people asking to speak to supervisors at immigration but not sure I believe the people that said it worked. Have you tried calling 1111? I got it from the old url so not sure it will be of any help. https://www.tatnews.org/2015/03/thai-government-launches-1111-hotline-receive-complaints-from-foreigners/
  24. Have you watched Season 2 Episode 9 "Subspace Rhapsody" yet. I think this is one of the strangest Star Treks I have ever watched. It was sort of a Star Trek-Glee cross over. I enjoyed it but hope it is not something that happens again.
