  1. This post made me think of this song.
  2. I know this is a silly response but if it is a prepay sim you should make sure you have a remaining balance. True keeps subscribing me to SMS services that cost me money to receive and my balance disappears. I unsubscribe via *137 and a month or so later the subscription is back.
  3. I understand that but just seems like really lazy reporting. If you have the footage of Dubai why use a London picture?
  4. "Shocking footage shows customers shoving each other outside Apple's flagship store in the UAE's Dubai Mall" You would think they could find a better picture to go with a story about Dubai. Don't think there were a lot of guys standing around in heavy coats.
  5. Bob you on that kid train that goes through the mall again? It is not all that exciting when sober.
  6. For me the issue with the way the new tax is worded it will impact savings. I live mostly off my savings and my interest is usually less the US standard deduction of around $12,000. Since I do not pay any US tax I will be taxed on any money I bring into Thailand just like it was earned in Thailand. Is my understanding correct or am I missing something?
  7. I think we define edge differently. I would not define any of these as edge but just normal life. I hope you find the edge you seek in Hanoi.
  8. @LaosLover recently posted about doing Muay Thai. Why don't the two of you get together to punch each other in the face. Should be a good work out.
  9. Thanks for the reply. Hope you find a way to make Hanoi work for you. It has been a long time since I was in Hanoi. I thought Pattaya traffic was a challenge, Hanoi traffic is crazy.
  10. Sorry my question is not really on topic for a studio but interested to know where are you planning on moving to find that edge you seek? I recently left Pattaya because riding my motorcycle in Pattaya with all the traffic and construction was a bit too much edge for me.
  11. Sorry not saying you should. I just was saying one of those vehicle campers made it to Thailand. Sorry did not mean an offense.
  12. One made it to Thailand. I spent a year and a half mostly living out of a vehicle traveling around the US visiting National Parks. Great experience. My last trip was to DC to get a Thailand visa, sold the vehicle and arrived in Thailand a week before the COVID shutdown.
  13. Bob you know that guy in the mirror is yourself?
  14. Hey Bob, see you in the bar in a few hours so we can have another stimulating conversation.
  15. Saw one on youtube but have not been to it in Bangkok.
  16. I assume you have come to the light about the down side of being a minimalist? What made you change your mind from thinking you would be happy with a mat on the floor to think sitting on the bed to watch TV was not acceptable? I think I am a bit of a minimalist but never have I considered a mat on the floor without a fridge to be a possibility.
  17. I thought you were going to be a minimalist. The following is from a post of yours a month ago. "My dream eventually is to sell up and move to a small 1 house in isaan in the country side Thailand and have no clutter to live as a minimalist , not even a fridge Just a mat on the floor , a small drawer and not even a tv " Seems like 19 sqm would be roomy with only a mat on the floor. I just moved from a 40 sqm condo to a 29 sqm condo in a different city. Will have to get use to a little less space but think it will fill my needs.
  18. You may want to look at Cat Ba island as a different approach to Halong Bay. I took a boat from Halong city through Halong Bay and it dropped me off at Cat Ba. I enjoyed 2 nights on the island and don't recall the island being really touristy. That was 15 years ago so no idea how it is now.
  19. I only did the tourist trail in Vietnam but the one place I visited that no one has talked about is Ninh Binh. Hope you have a great trip and please update us when you return on what you found to be the highlights.
  20. Well it is decided. The next time you need to kill off a month it is off to New York for you. Kyoto is on my to do list but don't think I will do a month there but a month in Japan would be wonderful.
  21. Can you give an update when you finish the LOST series? I stopped watching just because of other things going on in my life but think I had friends tell me they lost interest in the later seasons. If you think it is good all the way through I will have to download it.
  22. Why limit yourself to Thailand? A month is time enough to get over any jet lag. I have not spent a month in a single city often but have done it in Bangkok. I guess you could also count the last 3 years I have been killing time in Pattaya. I have also done a month in Amsterdam, Mexico City, Bogota, Istanbul and Kiev but none of these match your Thailand limitation.
  23. I was late in hearing about the hit song Rich Men North of Richmond. I since have seen the following YouTube video and think it is worth watching. Better to get the meaning of the song from the writer. He seems to be unhappy with both the right and the left trying to use his song. He
  24. I have heard the act of giving can be very rewarding. If you are giving your money away you will have less to worry about and maybe bring joy to someone in this world.
  25. I love the Lonely Planet books and still use them but now the e-book versions. They hold such a wealth of information and I usually felt I saved the money I paid for the book within the first week in a new country. Did anyone buy the cheap copies they use to sell in the backpacker areas? You had to try and go through the book before buying it and see if pages or sections were missing. I had one where one section was upside down from the rest of the book.
