This may be true for the Non-Imm O visa but the insurance requirements for the O-A was changed just last year. I think you have been here a long time so assume you were here prior to the O-A even requiring insurance. I just wanted to point out that there have been recent changes to one of the retirement visas and some people have been impacted by the change.

Thanks for the link. I think the OP might be better planing the route and using grab. For 399 baht you could take a number of taxis and I assume you will be 2 people so you are looking at 798 baht. Haggle with with a tuktuk to get one ride and see what it is like and the rest of the day use grab or bolt. That being said I looked at Trip Advisor and most of the reviews are positive. https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g293916-d17823777-Bangkok_Old_Town_Tuk_Tuk_Hop_On_Hop_Off-Bangkok.html

You didn't meditate prior to that reply.

No need for a retreat. Next time you think about posting on the form meditate for 20 minutes. Repeat this each time you think about posting for a week and you have saved a lot of money on the cost of a retreat.

Did you just go on the spur of the moment

You know that retirement in South East Asia is not for everyone. It may be better that you accept South East Asia is only a holiday for you and plan on staying in Oz. If you plan on living to 100 it is the safer choice. -

Opinion: Making me pay tax is fine but where does it go?
biervoormij replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thanks for your reply as well as replies from other members. I have brought a bit more of my savings into the country. I want to have enough money in the country to live on until I understand how the new tax is implemented. Once I am past my 2024 extension I have a year to decide if the new tax is something I can deal with or time to leave Thailand. It all just seems unclear at this point and I don't have as much faith in a tax treaty as other people. I want to avoid being in the middle while people talk about the wording of a tax treaty. -

Thanks for this. I assume in addition to the 71,000 tax I will need to get a Thai Tax ID and be expected to submit a Thai tax return yearly? I come from a country with a tax treaty but my income is below the standard deduction there so am not currently paying any tax. I am living mostly on saving which I believe will be seen as income when coming into Thailand. -
I can't send sms message with True Move H
biervoormij replied to Ochena's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
I went in and talked to them. They refunded my last charge and did the same thing I do with the *137 and said it was resolved. Since then I have been resubscribed to an SMS service twice and the 1st time did the *137 after a five baht charge. The 2nd time I had a balance of 4 baht and received a SMS that I was subscribed to a service and then an SMS which cost 3 baht. Not much money but frustrating. I only use True for data and have an unlimited data package that I need to load 150 baht a month. I have had this SIM for 3 years and read about the *137 to disable subscriptions on here after first getting the SIM. After finding the *137 I had no issues for at least 2 year but now the *137 only seems to temporary stop these subscriptions. I plan to order a new sim with a 1 year data package so I can keep a 0 balance and only have to worry about it once a year. There a number of threads like the following about true SMS subscriptions. -
This post made me think of this song.

I can't send sms message with True Move H
biervoormij replied to Ochena's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
I know this is a silly response but if it is a prepay sim you should make sure you have a remaining balance. True keeps subscribing me to SMS services that cost me money to receive and my balance disappears. I unsubscribe via *137 and a month or so later the subscription is back. -

taxation ......
biervoormij replied to Chetzee's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
For me the issue with the way the new tax is worded it will impact savings. I live mostly off my savings and my interest is usually less the US standard deduction of around $12,000. Since I do not pay any US tax I will be taxed on any money I bring into Thailand just like it was earned in Thailand. Is my understanding correct or am I missing something? -
I think we define edge differently. I would not define any of these as edge but just normal life. I hope you find the edge you seek in Hanoi.

@LaosLover recently posted about doing Muay Thai. Why don't the two of you get together to punch each other in the face. Should be a good work out.

Thanks for the reply. Hope you find a way to make Hanoi work for you. It has been a long time since I was in Hanoi. I thought Pattaya traffic was a challenge, Hanoi traffic is crazy.
-
Sorry my question is not really on topic for a studio but interested to know where are you planning on moving to find that edge you seek? I recently left Pattaya because riding my motorcycle in Pattaya with all the traffic and construction was a bit too much edge for me.
