I am retired and have nothing holding me in one places so yes I might move to avoid a pain in the butt immigration office. I am planning on moving when my lease is up for renewal and if someone would rather go to Laos than deal with their local immigration office I would like to know which office that is.

Check your 20 baht Thai bills! You may be sitting on extra cash
biervoormij replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I am still looking for one of the notes where the Thai serial number at the top does not match the western numbers down the side. Checking for the lack of a strip will be much easier. If I find one where the numbers don't match and is also missing the strip how much is it worth? https://banknotenews.com/?p=37863 -
What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2023)
biervoormij replied to CharlieH's topic in Entertainment
I just finished watching the first season of 1923 and wondered what other people thought of this series? I found the big cat attack scenes in Africa funny. I don't think they spent much on those special affects. I have read that there is going to be another Yellowstone prequel 1944 coming next year. -
Passport needed for travel around Thailand?

I never take it when I go to the beach. It is much safer in my hotel room than in the waves. -
OA visa vs O visa (retirement)
biervoormij replied to Lorry's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Another option for your friend may be to change to the monthly transfer method over the 800K. If he started transferring 65K into Thailand each and every month after a year he can extend based on monthly transfers. It would take a long time before he can move the out of Thailand but may be better than applying for a new O-A every 2 years. -
OA visa vs O visa (retirement)
biervoormij replied to Lorry's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
When applying for the O-A you will require a background check and a medical. These are not required for the Non-imm O based on retirement. Not a big deal but two things required for the O-A. -

It did not rain at all while I was in Vientiane. The area where the city buses leave from is covered but could be a mud pit if raining. I think it is the same location as when I was in Laos in 2008. The google map link is the station I caught the bus to the bridge. Bus #14 https://www.google.com/maps/place/Bus+terminal/@17.9655801,102.6147617,16z/data=!4m15!1m8!3m7!1s0x31149057b0824589:0xec592481f99cd81!2sLaos!3b1!8m2!3d19.85627!4d102.495496!16zL20vMDRoaHY!3m5!1s0x312469182d6f7009:0x7019776ef004af78!8m2!3d17.9634151!4d102.6153634!16s%2Fg%2F11qq2p2plq

I found this in my garden anyone know what it is?
biervoormij replied to markclover's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I think it is called a spider man maker. Set spider on it then allow the spider to bite you. Tomorrow you should be able to shoot webs and climb walls. -
The beauty of using an agent.
biervoormij replied to JeffersLos's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Is there not a brown envelope exchange on the LEGIT visa? I just assumed the price is so high for the LEGIT visa because of a brown envelope. Is the fee someone pays not split between the agent and the IO? I assumed that the envelope was just larger in the cases where someone didn't meet the requirements. -
Now scientists say even 'ethical' porn is bad

Brigham Young University has scientists? I thought science for a Mormon was like coffee something that you just don't do. -
SWMBO back from Thailand after 6 months.

I had to do a google search on SWMBO. She Who Must Be Obeyed. I have learned something new today. Thanks -
The beauty of using an agent.
biervoormij replied to JeffersLos's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Sorry I am the wrong person to answer that question. I just accept the 800/400k requirement. If I would have had an issue with it I would have retired somewhere it was not a requirement. I personally don't have an issue with you using an agent to get around this but it would just add to my stress level at extension time if I did it. -

Where are located in Thailand. I am currently living in Pattaya. I have not had any issues with immigration but the immigration officers seem very busy and don't seem to have time for any type of discussion. I just hand them my paperwork and they spend a few minutes reviewing it and then ask me for the 1900 baht. I get handed a number and told to come back tomorrow to pick up my passport. I understand why some people use agents just to avoid the waiting in line and the stress involved. I personally think the additional 10,000 baht seems like a high price to avoid a little stress. I do find the people that seem to find pride in the fact that they use an agent a bit strange but I also feel a bit of pride in the fact I can do it myself. I plan to move when my lease is up and hope the immigration office at my next home will be a bit less stressful. Being able to have a discussion with an immigration officer might be helpful. -
Is Starbucks the rightful King of the Coffee Universe?
biervoormij replied to LaosLover's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I refuse to pay more for a cup of coffee than the cost of a beer so no Starbucks for me. -

I hope the agents are still around when I reach an age that I am not capable of doing it myself. -
I think he took the minivan from central. I think you may have missed the following line from his post. "The only option is to take a van from Central to Nong Khai border for 55 baht. Then you go stamp out of Thailand. Then take the old bus for 35 baht to the Laos border." I recently flew to Vietenin and did not have any issues with the visa on arrival. The 2nd form they only handed out at the arrival hall not on the airplane. I stepped to the side and filled it out but should have filled it out while standing in line like everyone else. The only issue I had was them not liking one of my $20 bills. I handed him another one and he accepted it so just paid the $40 USD. The airport had a different desk for e-visas so think it might have saved some time. On returning to Thailand I took the city bus to the friendship bridge that cost 12,000 kip and if I recall correctly the bus to cross the bridge was 15,000 kip. I did not pay anything to immigration on exiting Laos or entering Thailand. I had read there was an out of hours charge to go through Laos immigration I think it said before 8:30 AM but did not pay this at about 8AM.

biervoormij replied to CharlieH's topic in Entertainment
I have not watched The Fabelmans yet but of the Oscar nominated movies for picture of the year is there a movie you feel is above average? I would put Top Gun Maverick as the best of the few I have seen but still don't think it was much above average. -

Tax specialist in Pattaya familiar with USA IRS, FBAR and amending returns?
biervoormij replied to ding's topic in Pattaya
I thought the $50,000 was the limit for the FATCA Form 8938 not for the FBAR. TurboTax told me I did not need to file 8938 but honestly I did not read the FBAR statement closely this year since I had already filed my FBAR.
