I think that's enough.
I assume these are your family members so you're doing nothing extra to help, why not just admit it?

Yes, that is true, but it often does. Also, most alcoholics will not admit they have a problem.
This is about an alcohol ban mainly aimed at young fools - to stop them from partying. The old fools are probably stocked up and enjoying themselves at home.
You try to paint everyone that has a drink a menace to society and a raging alcoholic which is completely unfair and untrue.
You obviously have you reasons for being so against alcohol and that's none of my business, just like people having a drink is none of your business.

I very disagree, the moment covid scare is over, both foreigners and all who ran away will flood back to Pattaya.
People have been locked up in the their rooms for months, first they will do is come to party, play with opposite or same same sex that looks like opposite ;), get drunk and be silly.
The only question is which businesses will still be standing and which will be gone
YIp, i totally agree.
I also suspect if these 'rules' of staying at home continue for much longer some business's will take the risk of starting up and i'm sure people will go.

Hopefully you haven't been.
Instead of all the miserable alcoholics on here crying about the ban on alcohol sales, they could donate their massive alcohol budgets to buy care packages for the many Thai people in Pattaya who don't have food and are still waiting for help from the government.
Now wouldn't that be nice - turning a negative situation into a positive one.
Just because some people like a beer does not make them an alcoholic.
Are you a junkie coz you like to smoke dope?
Have you bought a care package for anyone?

Criminal acts will come once everything sold and proceeds spent.

Thank you guys, much appreciated.

Thanks for the info, i'm in no hurry for the trip, main reason for Khao lak would be to see the Tsunami memorials and the beaches on the west coast for a night or two.
Any places you'd recommend are a 'must see' as i'm not that far south much, usually do trips up north.
Again, appreciate the input - thanks.

Exactly. No alcohol - no party. Ask yourself why?
Have you been drinking?

Plan to do this with a couple of mates when the current mess is over.
Krabi to the west coast, up to Khao Lak, continue up north on route 4, not sure whether to take route 4 all the way up to Chomphon or cut east on 4006?
Anyone done this trip, there's some lovely beaches up the west coast and some great looking hotels on the beach but as always first hand reviews are better.
Thanks in advance for any input.
ps - i'm aware at this time of year we may get wet but not worried about it.

No doubt, to be "exciting" at a party you need to be drunk, however, conversely, people who get drunk are often the most boring of people when they are sober. Take these same people to a party where only soft drinks are served up and see just exciting these fools really are.
Congratulations are not necessary, I'm not a recovering alcoholic. I just don't drink alcohol other than some wine on occasions.
People ask the wrong questions.
The question should be: "why do you drink?", not "why don't you drink?". It's illogical to ask why I don't consume chemicals that can cause harm and are not necessary for the human body to function. I can give a lot of reasons why I don't, but reasons why you do might be hard to come by.
I've never been to a party where only soft drinks are served, not since i was a child anyway.

That damned ad is almost blocking the middle of my screen and even clicking on "x" does not get rid of it.
Using an old IPad. No problems with the desktop PC.
You'd think with the amount of complaints about these ads something might get done.......

Sure, there are always gamblers, but defying a provincial ban makes for bad odds.
A lot of Thais think the bans / rules don't apply to them though.
As for them understanding odds......really?

It won't be so good for them if they are caught and fined. The fines will cancel out any profit they made.
Maybe they'll be willing to role the dice.

Have you not been following this?
Governments had to make decisions. Thailand mostly decided to ignore it and continue on as normal, while hiding the outbreak by making it almost impossible to get a test. Now the problem can no longer be hidden and they have a curfew. They are likely to progress to a partial lockdown and, then, a full lockdown.
I am saying that, once they decided they didn't want to stop the tourists from China during the busiest part of the tourist year, they should have quietly made arrangements to protect their vulnerable.
They were trying to protect big business and, in a very Thai way, hoped the problem would just disappear. Now it is going to cost them so much more.
I wish i could 'not follow' this.

The economy that remains productive.
That's the point. The stuff we're doing now is incredibly expensive and productivity has slammed to a halt.
"Why, in the name of God, didn't they just take their most vulnerable citizens and put them securely in hotel rooms in the first place, safely away from family and visitors?"
How would they have known when this was?

Every country should be properly quarantining their vulnerable, and giving them TVs, exercise bikes, deliver all the free food and medicine they want, and give them iPads so they can Facetime or Skype with their families.
Then let the rest of society get on with their jobs and education so that we have the money and skills necessary to deal with this and future emergencies.
What almost every government in the world is doing is just dumb.
Who pays for everything you mention?

I need to say here in kanchanaburi, nongya the local orbator office sent out people (secretary) to make sure people had food (specifically the poor). They only went to family and friends of the secretary! So disgracefull. None of the poor people got any food from what i saw. These people need to be taken care of because they are taking all the government handouts for themselves. Skimming off projects, projects given to family and friends, land given ilegally and sold to friends and family, old people pensions skimmed and less given and these idiots kids end up in the same job position doing the same thing. The way i see it, is if there were no local governments the people would be doing better and these scumbags would be suffering.
I used to look after an elderly crippled women and her grandchild after the husband died but clearly people didnt like it and we were bullied away becaus eit was too close to the illegal operations taking place by these idiots. She was forced to leave by local government people and friends of because they were scarred we were going to take the mayor to court and she would be witness and we were most definately going to do so and probably still will. This is what Thailand truly is people!!
Totally agree with what you say, greediest most selfish nation of people i've come across.

Exactly so everyone getting excited about maintaining social distancing to prevent infection by not going to restaraunts are still potentially exposed.
Just coz they're getting deliveries by no means prevent them becoming infected.

Business is booming, good for them, at least they're still making a living!
