Sorry to hear about your friend.

Anyway, the discussion was about 'novice' motorbike drivers that's why it would matter.

I will not engage you any longer as this is about living in Prathumnak not driving motorbikes.

There now, I have lived here rather longer.

Had a motorcycle for all of them...

Motorcycles account for 74% of vehicular accidents in Thailand, which is the second highest in the world. Thailand is actually highest just for motorcycles. You are ill-informed and now in my special place....

how many of your 74% are complete novice drivers?

Have you been to Pattaya...? High likelihood of having an accident for novice riders. Serious is your definition perhaps.

yeah i lived there 8 years mate, thanks for asking, have you been?

you realise there are tourists ( or used to be ) that have never driven motorbikes before in their lives, these tourists  hire scooters every single day ( or used to  ) when they visit Pattaya for holidays, the % of them that have accidents is very very very very small.

    it's really not that hard.

Safety, to start.  I value my life.  And, as I said, I usually do some sort of shopping when I go out.  Plus I like to be able to go out even when it is raining.  And, be out of the heat, dust, and pollution.  And, be able to chitchat with my partner when we are driving around without shouting at the back of his head.  Don't care for wild dogs nipping at my shins.  Etc., etc.  But, whatever floats your boat. I was just pointing out that there is no regular public transportation in Pratamnuk and a newcomer thinking of living there should be aware of that.

I'd never driven a motorbike until i came to thailand and if it's just pottering around in the city stuck in traffic it's unlikely you'll have a serious accident.

    but to each their own.

    Enjoy.

some people, like ME do not like motorbike for a taxi......I have not been on one for years (been here ten yrs)

That's fair enough but for many people here it's their only choice econimically.

they will do but one has to pay a premium rate.....I used to do  this before I got my truck....droped me off right outside my condo building....

Therefore not for the 10baht standard rate.

Really doesn't matter when you misinterpret what he said does it?

    You appear to be trolling.

I will not stoop to your level.

IF you read his post it's exactly what it says.

When living on a bahtbus route the door to door service is included in the 10 baht....

So the baht bus driver takes every single person to right to their front door, don't think so!

So do I but just staying having a ride within my province.

No places to stay are open anywhere within my province from what I see.

I'm just gonna wait it out.

I have a condo in another province ( chonburi ) so i will have a dummy run early next week before venturing further.

Your issue is more down to the dealer that is fixing your vehicle. There will be a backlog unfortunately, due to the number of accidents here. Maybe they only have one repair guy in your area.

Did you pick the repairer, or did they?

Yes, i thought as much with regards to high amount of accidents here, there were many cars at the repair garage.

    They picked the repairer.

Get on a motorbike taxi in Pattaya?  No thanks.  Plus, it does rain sometimes.  It does get hot sometimes.  I am carrying packages sometimes--actually most times.   Pratamnak is nice--I did live there--but you'll likely be happier there if you have a car.

Almost the entire population of Pattaya / Thailand manage on motorbikes, it's a way of life here, don't see what the problem is?

    16C!!!

    Are you serious?

Yeah, I suspect that you need more cooling if you really need it that cold. I hate to think what your power bill is.

Last year our visitors from the UK set their bedrooms and the lounge to 16C, talk about arctic even the dogs (who do like to cool down after lying in the sun cooking themselves) wouldn't come in.

Power bill normally 6-8K per month

@HashBrownHarry bedrooms are occupied at night when it's cooler outside so you can get away with a smaller unit.

60m2 @ 600BTU would be 36,000 BTU which is what you have. But as others have noted there are many variables.

What set temperature are you using? Do the A/C compressors ever actually stop (assuming they're not inverter units)?

Our lounge (where I am now) is 36m2 with a single Hitachi  24,000 BTU inverter (666 BTU / m2). It's fine for me, but I tend to set 28C and have a fan as well.

During the day have one set at 16C, if it is not cool enough fire up the other bad boy.

The compressor stop sometimes i think.

I also have 2 fans in living room.

Also just spent a lot of money on UVPC windows with heat reducing glass which have made a massive improvement. My roof has a shallow pitch which i'm suspect about, i'm thinking about pulling down the ceiling and spraying foam insulation, think that would help as i don't know much about it?

    Thanks.

Dozy b*gg*r...now your blaming Roojai...perhaps these difficult times are having an impact...

The tree just appeared, i'm sure it was n't there before i reversed, honest guv.

I'm not blaming them at all, merely stating facts from their performance.

The garages are still working as normal and with the current lockdowns ( less traffic / less accidents ) in reality the process should be quicker....

The standard Thai guesstimate is 600 BTU per m2, 500 if it's a bedroom.

just for my info what difference does it make what room type it is? ie bedroom / living room / dungeon etc?

my living room is approx 60sqm, i have a 18K BTU unit at each end but i feel it's not enough with both on at this time of year.

    Thoughts?

  16. 1 minute ago, Crossy said:

Your 18000 BTU aircon will use about 1800W when the compressor is running.

If it's working properly, correctly sized for the room and not set to arctic temperatures then the compressor will probably be on 50% of the time in the current weather.

So you're looking at 0.9 units per hour. Your 30W lamp will use 0.03 units per hour.

A/C about 30 times what the lamp would use.

I'm led to believe that the rule of thumb for sizing A/C is 1000BTU per sqm, is that correct?

It's seldom that A/C's are sized correctly for the rooms they're in.

This is interesting but it appears it's hit or miss with regards to proving why you're travelling ( if stopped and asked ).

Is there an announcement coming with confirmed guidelines? they seem to change every 2 mins.

well they are all reluctant to pay out of course. Hopefully I will never need them.

yeah, that's exactly what i was hoping although one bump in 20 years + is ok with me.

Like i said they're probably all equally as efficient ( or not ).
