Daily News Thai Caption: Shocking pack of soi dogs Residents of a community in Surin, NE Thailand, turned to the Thai media in frustration after their local authority have done nothing to solve the problem of soi dogs. A pack of more than twenty fierce animals has been plaguing the Phromthep area for three to four years. They bite and cut in front of motorcycles causing many accidents. One resident called Sak (an assumed name) said that there were four accidents just last week. "The muang tessaban have done nothing to help despite our calls," he said. "So we decided to contact the press". While the Daily News reporters were there one animal started barking quickly followed by five or six others. Picture: Daily "They've been there was years," he said pointing to the area by a dirt track leading to a warehouse. "They breed and there's always a new one to join those biting the residents". The residents hope by getting some national attention the authority will be forced to act. Thais are reluctant to take matters into their own hands, notes ASEAN NOW due in no small part to animal cruelty laws that can see people jailed. There is also the Buddhist aspect of live and let live. Some feel dogs get a better deal than people. Also there are dog lovers who come out and feed the pests thinking they are doing a good deed can also be a major part of a problem that exists throughout Thailand. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. September 2022 Report From Jungle Aid By Editor Hun Hin’s Jungle Aid Foundation has provided their latest news release which is reproduced below. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1270691-september-2022-report-from-jungle-aid/ -
By Editor Hun Hin’s Jungle Aid Foundation has provided their latest news release which is reproduced below. Jungle Aid Volunteers and fund raisers have been incredibly busy over the summer with trips to Pala U Noi Village, Thai Village and Bonluk. The most recent visit to Thai Village was a huge success with a large medical team being able to treat over 40 patients. Jungle Aid volunteers delivered donations of rice, milk, toothbrushes, soap and all important mosquito nets. This visit was further boosted by the donations of Powder Bugs (Thailand) https://www.powderbugs.co.th/ and by the wonderful fundraising of the Association of Thai Students in Romania (ATSR). Pala U Noi villagers were greatly appreciative of the medical treatments, contraceptives and much needed basic supplies. The children thoroughly enjoyed the activities and games and were very attentive to Maria, representing Bangkok Soap Opera, who promoted the importance of handwashing and also donated soap products. Volunteers also heard that the Jungle Aid sponsored university students were doing well with their studies and that Sornram is looking forward to officially receiving his diploma. It was great joy that Jungle Aid volunteers were able to interact with the villagers of Bonluk village for the first time for a long time. They were able to see the excitement brought by the large deliveries of much needed supplies. The medical team were also able to provide treatments. The work of Jungle Aid volunteers and generosity of Jungle Aid donors has made a real difference to villages lives over the last summer months – thank you! Authorities gathering details relevant to death of 7-year-old left inside school van for hours by Namo Vananupong CHONBURI (NNT) - The body of a 7-year-old who died after being left inside a school van for hours in Chonburi has been sent for autopsy. The National Institute for Child and Family Development (NICFD) indicated this incident involved the oldest victim to date. It called for the causes of the most recent tragedy to be examined. NICFD Director Adisak Plitponkarnpim indicated the incident was, among similar cases, one involving the oldest victim to date. He said it is believed the child experienced acidosis and brain swelling after being stuck in the hot interior of the van. Dr. Adisak said 2-3 children die each year from being stuck in a vehicle, but the children are usually under 5 years old. He said the factors leading to the most recent case must be determined, as it involved a 7-year-old child. He noted a child this age should have been able to respond to the scenario. He added school vans have so far not been regulated enough to prevent these incidents from repeating. He suggested that at the very least, the name list of children who took the school van be checked every time. Royal Thai Police Deputy Commissioner Damrongsak Kittipraphat said police in Chonburi have been told to thoroughly check on the details of the case. He noted the case affects parents’ sentiment nationwide, saying legal action will be taken if the death resulted from negligence. Police forces nationwide have been asked to coordinate with school management to prevent the incident from repeating. Pol. Gen. Damrongsak said the Royal Thai Police had previously worked with schools to address this issue. He said school vans should not have dark films or curtains and children should be taught to honk the car horn in emergencies. He added school children should be trained to respond to similar scenarios. Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce believes 2022 GDP will grow by 3.3% by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (Thai CC) expressed its view that Thailand’s economy will be able to grow by 3.3% this year. This would be due to exports and an improved tourism scene. Meanwhile, it cautioned that the global economy and conflicts between superpowers need to be monitored. by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (Thai CC) expressed its view that Thailand’s economy will be able to grow by 3.3% this year. This would be due to exports and an improved tourism scene. Meanwhile, it cautioned that the global economy and conflicts between superpowers need to be monitored. Thai CC President Narongsak Putthapornmongkol revealed the results of a confidence survey by his organization. The survey of 305 business leaders’ confidence for the 4th quarter of 2022 found that respondents believe the economy will expand by 3.3% this year. Factors cited as hindrances to the Thai economy’s revival include the global economic slowdown, inflation, and domestic political stability. Other factors cited include household debt, economic crises faced by some trading partners, and conflicts between global superpowers. Mr. Narongsak noted survey respondents deem China to still be a reliable export market for Thailand. Thailand-China trade expanded by 7.34% in the first 7 months of this year. However, Thai exports to China declined by 2.62%. Prominent exports to China include computers and parts, plastics, rubber products, cassava, para rubber as well as fresh, chilled, and frozen fruit. The chamber president expressed his view that Thai exports to China, especially farm exports and agriculture industry products, can grow much further. He said freight costs are on the decline, the baht has weakened and China’s relaxation of Covid curbs is resulting in more demand for food. He said, however, that the private sector needs to monitor the global economic situation and the Chinese economy, as well as the conflicts between superpowers. Mr. Narongsak also expressed concern over the domestic political situation. He said interruptions that cause any delays to the APEC summit or make it unviable for APEC leaders to participate would impact Thailand’s credibility.
