  1. I'm going to post some pictures of my house tomorrow that will make you lose sleep. The builder who did the tile and finishing work brought laser tools and did a great quality job despite the lack of an accurate 90 degree angle to start with in the concrete / brick walls where they meet the floor.
  2. What do you do when the grout lines are not parallel to the walls? The tiles are manufactured with great precision and accuracy, but the concrete structure and walls are often made by hand with less accuracy.
  3. Looking to buy catch basins for a new rainwater drainage system in the yard / garden. I would like to buy locally in Chiang Mai if possible. https://www.ndspro.com/products/drainage/catch-basins/square-catch-basins.html Thank you all in advance for recommendations.
  4. I went to Pai in 2018 and had a good experience cycling around the town and surrounding areas. Stray dogs didn't bother me nearly as much as in Mae Hong Son. Went back again last year when the entire bar street was in darkness during covid restrictions. Not so exciting .. but still peaceful. Stray dogs had not taken over the neighborhood.
  5. I suppose you can find good food anywhere in the world if you have some time and money. I remember trying to find convenient lunches outside the city of Honolulu on the way to work. Found lots of <deleted>ty burgers with eggs and rice. Also found some good poke (poki?) fish places. On average not as good as random village food I find in Thailand. This was also 20 years ago, so I don't know the current situation now.
  6. food, women, low crime, reduced stress are the first 4 things that come to mind when i think of why i chose to move from San Francisco to Thailand. I've been to Hawaii 3 times. twice for work. once for a friend's wedding. I think that finding a low crime and low stress environment can be achieved in Hawaii. About food and women: Thailand is the clear winner for my preferences.
  7. น้ำเงี้ยวป้านวล อาหารญวณพังงาNam Ngiao Pa Nuan Phang foodshop 085 829 1212 https://maps.app.goo.gl/cpnsK6JLYiBNTYzZA my favorite breakfast in CR
  8. How did they conclude that the driver was a tourist? I see Fortuners (and other types of vehicles) driving on the wrong side of the road all the time. What's new?
  9. I buy from the Betagro booth. So , yes, I buy meat from my local market. But not from the smelly tables with flies. The Betagro booth keeps everything clean and refrigerated. Also the seller takes care not to touch money and meat on the same surface. glove on for meat. glove off for money. I don't bother much with fresh seafood in chiang mai though.
  10. Yes. SOME HOURS. Cafe’24hrs. 093 274 5928 https://maps.app.goo.gl/BFcFYXEGPdHj8xLH9 Just went today. Confirmed that the bigger meeting room upstairs is still available for 100B/hr. There were 8-10 people in the upstairs area today studying / working. totally silent. Every now and then, i see people go outside to talk on the phone. so polite!
  11. One of my favorite cafes to have a focused workspace is near Mae Jo university. They had a private air condioned room for 50฿ per hour for the past few years. I am not a digital nomad, but got a lot of focused work done in that room. Unfortunately (for me) they are using it as a storage room now. I'm guessing not enough people rent the room when the common area is equally quiet and comfortable. The main difference is that you can talk amd have an online meeting in the study room without disturbing others.
  12. Probably should have removed her shoes before dancing on the counter. I remember a few years ago at a christmas party in a bar - the coyote dancer girls all took their shoes off before climbing up on the platforms. I thought it looked funny at first, but they were wearing bikinis, so I guess barefoot makes sense compared to heels or boots.
  13. People see me leave the building to go to work on weekday mornings. I can"t possibly be wealthy if I still "have to" work full time, right?
  14. เชียงใหม่เหล็กรูปพรรณ 053 245 176 https://maps.app.goo.gl/teYYewDx1NGV4ZVe7 lots of material here. The local metalwork shop near Kuang Singh that did some work for me recommends this shop to buy raw materials
  15. i take stuff to this shop in the small alley behind Miguel's restaurant. httpins://maps.app.goo.gl/6rqVcwJz6A3FWz147 At the intersection, they have an incorrectly spelled sign that says "Dying -->"
  16. wow... from the subject line, I thought this was a thread about COVID. because COVID safety is the logic why they were closed for 2 years (or still closed. unsure about current status). I have never seen a sign outside that says "closed because of safety hazard of tiles too slippery with soap". GG throws the curveball!
  17. hard to say. i don't think one is "better" than the other . just different. tradeoff between freedom to be out and about all night and good home cooked food for breakfast every morning. given the limitations on public social interactions during 2+ years of covid, i chose the delicious breakfast route.
  18. a few years ago: small amounts of money on many different women and frequent travel. now: larger amounts of money on one woman and less frequent travel.
  19. Real can of worms. I have seen equipment come from Germany with the plug as described (Earth is not a 3rd pin, but a strip on the edge that requires the mating surface on the receptacle). Mechanical fit into the Thai schuko style receptacle "works" but earth / ground goes nowhere.
  20. I haven't had chocolate since 2 years ago and nearly forgot about it. Now you reminded me, and I want some! However, I have experienced some wonderful Northern Thai food that follows seasonal availability of local ingredients for the past 2 years. But yeah, ... I miss good fresh fish too
  21. @Dunkelblumim which city? If you are in CM, I can recommend a nice lady who works at a local shop that i go to cut my hair for 3 years already. 150฿ gets you a haircut, shampoo and head massage.
  22. I agree with your logic, but sometimes details of proper installation are overlooked and can cause problems in the near future even if the unit works on day 1. I recently bought a new aircon from Powerbuy in Chiang Mai. Install location is too far from the city to justify the extra cost for Powerbuy technicians to install. Got a local guy to install it who was recommended by a nearby resort. The electrical work was fine. Refrigerant tubing looked ok to my untrained eye. So I paid him before some mechanical details were done because i had to leave. I come back to find that he didn't fasten the rubber feet of the compressor into the concrete shelf it sits on. This could cause damage to the tubing fittings if the vibration of the compressor makes it walk away over time. Also, insufficient pipe support on a long section of almost horizontal condensate drain pipe left the pipe sagging down in the middle with water. I fixed the issues, and the system works fine. But I don't expect Powerbuy to honor any warranty in the future because the installation was not done by their technicians. The local guy who installed it doesn't care if it works for more than a 30 minutes (paid cash, no receipt, no service contract)
  23. I'm really interested to know how this shower is connected into your breaker box. Maybe we can add it to the list of unbelievable electrical installations and use the example for future troubleshooting reference. I had a contractor once who connected his extension cord leads to the house main incoming leads (before the main breaker) with the CU cover off. He believed that his electric welding gear would work better if the power came from before all the safety devices. While he was away I removed it, installed a 60฿ plug on his cord and plugged it into a 16A receptacle that was behind a 16A MCB and the main RCD. His tools worked fine. job got done and no one died. another day in paradise!
  24. since all the covid shutdowns and time limits, between 5pm (directly after work) and 9pm has become my typical time to eat and drink socially. In the past I would finish work, go home, eat, shower, take a rest, change clothes, and go out again. Now i usually skip the break between work and going out at night. Get tired early, then asleep earlier than pre-covid schedules.
  25. which spare parts are you looking to buy? Perhaps some people in this group can help you sort out the vocabulary of exactly what to search for if you post some pictures.
