  1. thank you@sometimewoodworker for the chart. I just checked the bill at gf's house and it was 311.33 baht for 94 kWh. Average of 3.3 ฿ / kWh. So it is higher than my quick mental-math estimate of 3 ฿ -- but not nearly as high as the 8 ฿ i pay at the apartment. I have heard that this practice of reselling electricity to tenants for profit is illegal in many cases, but it is standard practice in Chiang Mai and difficult to avoid. That said, the OP should be careful to consider the actual price per kWh unit at each property when comparing budgets.
  2. Also very important to find out exactly how much per kWh you have to pay at this property. If your bill passes through the management, it might double or triple compared to the direct price from PEA. In my building, everyone pays 8 / kWh added onto the monthly rent. I don't know how much of that 8 baht the owner pays to PEA. I've seen detached houses in the area pay 3 baht per kWh.
  3. I understand the suit, clean shoes, ironed shirt ... but no tie. no way. too hot and uncomfortable. who invented that accessory and decided it gives you status? In previous work experiences, neckties and metallic jewelry were prohibited in work areas for safety reasons. all good for me. But yes, i do notice that when i go out in Thailand with a nice ironed button-up shirt, I often receive positive comments about "looking professional"
  4. If your roof has a steel frame, you might consider connecting it to the Earth ground as well while things are accessble if you have any wiring near the steel structure.
  5. You can rent Honda Click 125cc motorbike from The Cave Bar and Guesthouse near chiang dao cave (also a "farang" hangout). I think she has 4-5 of them. Reasonably new and appear in good condition.
  6. been to arunothai a few times. quiet place, good noodles, shuts down early. didnt see anything exciting at the Myanmar border road that i went to explore. just a dirt road that ended at a fence with army guards and farms surrounding. nearest expat hangout spot i know of on that route is Cafe My Day Off in Mueang Ngai.
  7. "clean" sound is subjective -- especially since we humans are unlikely to hear the sound above 20kHz. Most likely, follow simon's link and job done. A sine wave is a single frequency. All of the other listed waveforms can be mathematically decomposed into the sum of many sinewaves at different frequencies -- each of which has a magnitude and phase (Fourier Analysis). If you want to use this to deter dogs, square wave probably sounds annoying enough. Or 2 square waves with frequency difference of 3-4 Hz added together to make a beat would be more annoying. If you want to build proximity sensor / sonar, going to need more carefully designed modulation.
  8. OP says "RF" and you got my attention. but then say that you want a few tens of kHz? Can you share more about the application and what kind of waveforms you require? The architecture (and price) really depends on the type of waveforms you want to generate. As @simon43mentioned, you could build or buy one for a few dollars, but you will be limited to the basic config. If you want something more flexible that uses a DAC, you could generate any arbitrary waveform including multiple tones, noise, modulated tones, the list goes on...
  9. From my perspective / opinion , I see that the low cost (no entertainment / decoration / social scene) restaurants are busy as usual feeding people who need to eat basic food every day. The places that i see suffering or closed are the restaurants that have higher prices -- where the higher prices come from operating a restaurant that has service / music / entertainment / social scene / bar / ..
  10. ok. my references would probably not help. too far. i have recently hired builders in Chiang Dao who do good work for the price, but they appear to stay fully employed with a queue of local projets.
  11. Where are you located? (more specifically than Chaing Mai province)
  12. Usually the owner of the next door mini mart looks over the wall and asks me what i'm doing whenever i'm outside fixing / adding something (usually electrical or plumbing). Fascinated by the farang who puts too much effort and money into using correct tools / hardware / fittings when a cheaper and faster "local" method exists to do the job. Then, when I'm finished, I always go buy beer and ice and make some small talk -- usually about home repair / construction. I never ask too deep questions about family. I see he is also quite interested in buddhist amulets. I see people often stop by and sit at the table with him as they use their magnifying glasses and examine the details. I'm interested how all that stuff works, but never asked. Anyhow, mom n' pop shops are a necessity and i appreciate them so much.
  13. I see a girl selling sandwiches on my way every morning. 20฿ and taste good. similar to the OP's picture. Only downside is the plastic packaging. I'm not a fan of buying and throwing away plastic packaging that has been used to hold sandwich for only a few hours.
  14. I recommend Triple Cats as well. I haven't been there since 6+ months ago, so i am not aware if / where they moved. If you can't find his current location online, pm and I can forward his Line to you (owner speaks English)
  15. If i move out of my apartment 2km from city center, i plan to live near @BritManToo. I don't know exactly where you live, but I think i recognize this view from cycling on farm roads.
