  1. Weather forecasting is a very imprecise art the world over. The forecasts are more often than not wrong in the South East of Australia , and even in the US with all of their technology, they can’t predict the weather accurately - even in the landlocked States. I would have gone out of business if I was so consistently wrong in my job! however.. in Thailand I have been quite impressed with the Weather - weather forecast and Weather forecast - radar Apps. Even their 7 day forecast is reasonably accurate for my area. the information provided is pretty basic. I installed a rain gauge - so if you call me, I can tell you yesterdays weather pretty accurately.
  2. I do not think that Phil is reckless with them - maybe somewhat blase - he is confident & comfortable - he knows which ones are dangerous, & what they are capable of. It is a testament to his expertise - and a reminder to normal folk to 'back off' if they don't know what they doing
  3. Learning how to administer large volumes of fluid intravenously - even the initial placement of a simple intravenous catheter - is not something that can be easily trained. It is a skill honed with practise . Even if you knew how to do it - in the pressure of the situation - you would be unlikely to be successful. (No disrespect)
  4. a major part of snake bite therapy is the administration of very large volumes of intravenous fluid - to help flush the venom that has not been 'bound' by the antivenom from the circulation before it does too much damage. It will still give the liver and kidneys a hiding on the way out! This is another reason why educated medical intervention is required.
  5. I would suggest that the best option is normal post bite treatment : for extremities - apply bandage to whole limb (not tourniquet) , limit movement & keep patient calm - and take somewhere (nurse/hospital) to have treatment administered. You can self medicate with antihistamine, and even corticosteroid - but for antivenom to be effective it must be administered intravenously (diluted in normal saline)- which most of us are unable to do As you are experienced in snake identification - your information will enable the experts to give the correct antivenom for the snake that has bitten you/the patient
  6. Yes. - for sale next to the Filla sandals & the Kristian Dior bags LOL
  7. I think that (only) the badge with the Union Jack on it might have been designed in G.B. 555 (but made in China!)
  8. Further to my previous comment... One bar we went to on Tuesday (Pattaya Beach Club) stopped serving at 11pm, however this same bar was serving drinks until 12:30 am on Thursday night (-Friday morning). Thailand - The Land of Consistent Inconsistencies
  9. just come back from a few nights in Pattaya - had no trouble finding bars & clubs - sorry , restaurants - that would supply us with alcohol until at least midnight (Treetown area) - and then 'closed' smaller bars (by invitation) open until at least 4 As has been said before - it all depends on the bar owner, & who they know
  10. you're reading it a#@e about - those 3 banks (BB,KB,SBC) can receive more than 50k, up to 2million - all others can only receive less than 50k
  11. the bigger numbers are so that you can win the p#ss#ng contest! I had a Shelby in Australia with 750hp - good straight line speed and goodfor spinning rears - but not good for much else! (sounded good though) I agree that these tuned/high output vehicles are a waste for road cars
  12. We see many mothers and children - up to about 16 - wearing PJs at our local markets here in Kanchanaburi - mornings, daytime & night. It is 'accepted' clothing - mainly the squid game or freefire pj sets for the kids , and knock off brand names for the mums
  13. I think that Avian Influenza is the worry here. Recent infections/outbreak. : https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/philippines-detects-bird-flu-duck-quail-farms-2022-02-22/ Thai Government requirements : https://www.opsmoac.go.th/dc-news-files-431091791033 Good Luck!
  14. That may be the case - But I agree with doing anything to have access to our own money ???? Lawyers, banks & government officials can be a PITA while awaiting probate!
  15. Unfortunately sueing vets is becoming more common in the west. Hopefully this does not set a precedent here - although the defamation laws being as they are in Thailand will offer some protection to veterinarians. There is no information in the article to suggest any wrongdoing or malpractice by the vet. It seems the owner is unable to accept the negative outcome of the anaesthesia/operation. Living creatures (us included) are not machines - and unfortunately sometimes things just go wrong. The reading and signing of a surgery consent form is the ‘forum’ where owners are informed that there is ‘risk’ (of negative outcome) with any medical or surgical procedure. If this case is appealed to a higher court - the ONLY winners will be the legal teams.

    Telescopes

I bought a spotting scope from Lazada to look at the birds (feathered varieties) around my home. It is a Svbony brand and is quite good - but you will still need a (sturdy) tripod to stop the ‘shakes’. I think an astronomical scope may be overkill for your purposes - although if you can find a decent one that is well priced - you don’t need to use it at full magnification.
  17. I LOVE these birds! We have a pair nesting in a coconut palm just over our back fence. The same area is frequented by a Golden Oriole as well. Birdie heaven!
  18. It is a heron. Possibly ‘Chinese Pond Heron’
  19. I am so over these CCSA decrees They obviously need to justify their existence Why not have a perpetual State of Emergency? 555
  20. She’ll be getting a bit whiffy by now! surely time to wrap this saga up..
  21. And what is Novak Djokovic doing in Phuket anyway? LOL I also thought that all foreign men were handsome..
  22. Rottweilers, and many other large dogs, are a potential dangerous weapon if not confined or controlled. This case is yet another example. Irresponsible dog owners are the biggest problem. Of course the American Rottweiler Club is going to sing the praises of their breed! Doh!
  23. This is correct - a film of oil prevents the mosquito larvae (wrigglers) from breathing , because the altered surface tension prevents them pushing out their ‘siphon’ or breathing tube.
  24. I think you could be in for a surprise at how much people are asking for old pick-ups. There are plenty available on Facebook marketplace, One2Cars etc. As others have said , Isuzu D-max (spark) or Toyota Vigo would be the best options. If is just a work vehicle, then 2 doors with the longer tray is the better option - also RWD rather than 4WD, as tray is lower and easier for loading & unloading. I just replaced my Father-in Laws’ 2001 D-max (390k km!!) with a 2009 D-max - 220k km & runs like a charm - this cost 240k baht (!). He is as pleased as punch because this one has power steering and Aircon. You are unlikely to find anything half decent for under 300k Baht - and expect high mileage. The good thing is that there will be very little depreciation over your year or 2 of ownership.
