  1. Cha Am. Good mix of nationalities and thus services for non-Thai. Great expanse (10km+) of beach, which is accessible and varies from very busy to very quiet depending on which part you visit. Cheap rents and plenty of options (mainly low rise). A local government hospital and private hospitals 30 minutes away in Hua Hin or Phetchaburi. Golf courses and open scenic areas (Kaeng Krachan national park). Technically it also has part of an airport presently serving .....well no where really, but when flights land they land in Cha Am and then the terminal is in Hua HIn. Close to Bangkok (around 3 hours) for BKK airport, specialist hospitals and business that requires a visit to the capital. In the last few years there have been 3 supermarkets built locally with some attempt at stocking provisions for non Thai. Obviously plenty of 7-1's etc, a very busy Wednesday market by the (new) train station ( 3 hours to Bangkok but shortly to be shortened to 2 hours 59 minutes) and finally a few girlie bars, barely enough to warrant an area that could be noted for nightlife as they all left for the farm 2 years ago.
  2. I took £10k ( actually more) and paid it into a building society. They froze the account, however I complained and sent them my business documentation including my VAT registration. They apologised (sort of) and paid me compensation.
  3. I'm going to be checking a few things with my wife in the next few days. His description of his new lady friend sounds much too familiar for my liking.
  4. Absolutely agree. I run a business here and pay my (UK) invoices at the bank here by letting them change Baht to Sterling. An even better exchange rate is cash at Superich. The spread between buying and selling is minimal and there are no bank charges at either end. You can take back sizeable amounts , however you have to declare it at the UK airport before you pass through customs.
  5. Brown to match the house. Seriously though it has to be oil based. I've never tried water based exterior and I would think you have to create a key for water based rather than the oil based which I have applied just after a wipe down to clean off any dirt.
  6. Those typhoon tea bags give me wind for some unknown reason.
  7. Maybe: 'what goes on a the temple, stays at the temple'.
  8. When you say 'concrete under the tiles' do you really mean the adhesive (cement based) that he has used to 'stick' the tiles down. If so then it depends on the adhesive he has used . Rapid set can be as little as 3 hours so all is ok. Problem in this country is reading whats on the bag of adhesive and don't even think about asking anyone in Thaiwatsadoo. The concrete sub floor (what the house is built on) needs 28 days for each inch of depth , however I've laid tiles on 'drying' concrete before, just takes a little longer for everything to dry out.
  9. We run a business in Bangkok and regularly use a guy to bring/take stock to Jomtien. Reliable and reasonable . He only speaks Thai though so you will need someone to act as intermediary . PM me if you want further details
  10. Kasikorn, however make it less than 1 million or it's a Spanish Inquisition. Reasonable rates. Or take cash, better rates at SuperRich.
  11. Do Thai companies only export in US$ ? I Import from the UK......Baht/£ August 2021 46.41 Baht /£ Today (13th June 2022) 42.74. 8% increase in a year. Offset against my pensions unfortunately.
  12. Cha Am hospital. I find most hospitals uninviting , however this one might be at the top of my avoid list.
  13. Personally I would have thought any Toyota dealership if you want new. Used is a bit of a gamble.
  14. I was working in the UK and awaiting the collection of a 40 foot container, Until that container left I couldn't book my flight. If I had taken out 30 days cover and then had to delay my return I may have had less than the requirement. 'Folks read the threads for correct information' , good joke , you realise this is Aseannow you're posting on. My exit in 57 days was relevant and correct for my requirements, and if you read my reply did not affect the premium.
  15. So it's still a requirement. And your valued comments on the rest of my post.
  16. Mis-information is incorrect information that applies to a general proposal. I was being honest with the 57 days....actually made no difference to the premium. Thank you for your concern.
  17. Wow, just back from the UK after 2 months and straight into Aseannow to read the mis-information. I'm on a retirement visa valid until next February with a re-entry stamp. At 68 I paid 2,500 (ish) baht for 57 days of insurance that covers me for $10,000 USD with Luma. Told them I was leaving for Hong Kong in 56 days, straight through at the control ( new temporary desks before immigration at BKK). Thai wife did need a Thai Pass which required the same details as mine without any need for insurance.
  18. I'm expecting the phone call any day. It will go something like this: 'Mr Da La ...UK Gov representative here from DWP , we would like to talk to you regarding your state pension claim' Me....a pencil up each nostril and 'Wibble'.
  19. Is being senile, hard of hearing and very, very shortsighted and unable to use new fangled interwebby thing....thus confused as to where I live ( and all that poo about residency, 6 month, 90 day, 183 day , SRT etc etc) classed as fraud?
  20. If you mean you wouldn't fly with them because of bad food/service/schedules/cost/ punctuality etc, then ok, I accept that. However there are 4200 Boeing 737-800 NG in service at the moment. This was China Eastern Airline’s first incident in 12 years so a lot better on paper than for instance Malaysia Airlines. One of the main issues with we humans considering flying that in the event of a ‘problem’ the outcome is not good. The other issue is that plane crashes usually account for multiple fatalities, which is meaningless to anyone that loses a loved one in a singular incident. To place this into perspective , 1.3 million people a year die in road traffic accidents ….3,600 a day. So call it 20 airline crashes a day!
  21. Talking of which , one of my Xmas cards from the UK arrived 2 days ago. Posted end of November by airmail.
  22. I don't know which country you are suggesting Mike and I fully agree with your 'why 2 months to conclude this'. However in the UK we have a case going back 33 years that is still fully unanswered. Politics and the UK police are at the centre of the investigation which has been the subject of a huge cover up.
  23. I don't know if such a financial 'instrument' exists. Should suffice if 1 or more of the following You have a long term association in Thailand . House / business etc ..ie roots here She has property or land here She has a salaried job here with a recognisable company She has children here. Good luck, sorry I can't be of more help.
  24. Anyone care to explain the meaning of a 'non-binding resolution' to me. Thanks in anticipation. Frightening that there were 43 not up for a 'non binding resolution'
