Blackchin Tilapia Invasion Threatens Southeast Asia's Ecosystems
JensenZ replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If you're going to cut and paste from articles you find on Google, you should provide references. Your comment came from the following article: Tilapia Fish: Benefits and Dangers There are plenty of benefits and the dangers mentioned in the article (Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio) are just opinions. Do some more research and you'll find opinions that Omega 6 is healthy and too much Omega 3 is not. Here's one example: "omega-6 fatty acids play a crucial role in brain function, and normal growth and development". You should be comparing Tilapia with all the other fish Thai people and SE Asians in general consume, not an imported, very expensive fish like Salmon, which is out of range of most people's budget. Mostly fish is eaten as a good source of protein, not for its Omega 3 content. Most Omega 3 is destroyed in the cooking process, so unless you're going to eat raw salmon, it's not even a consideration when choosing fish. The important question is, how does it taste? Do Thai people enjoy eating it? Nutritionally it will be as healthy as most other fresh fish you see at the local market. -
Blackchin Tilapia Invasion Threatens Southeast Asia's Ecosystems

I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned in the article. CPF, a massively profitable company gets off scot-free, while the taxpayers pay to clean up their mess. Making the fish a valuable catch will certainly help to control their numbers, but do Thai people like this fish? CPF imported it, so it is likely to be a popular fish to eat. I'd rather eat fish grown naturally in the wild than buy the farm-raised basa and tra (Vietnamese Catfish) grown in the filthy Mekong River Delta... which is exported around the world as a cheap 'fish-and-chips' fish. -
Hong Kong policeman’s fatal fall from baht bus sparks safety outcry
JensenZ replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I don't know why they needed to state he was a Hong Kong cop, but as a cop there, you'd expect him to be more aware of his safety than the average person. In Pattaya he is a tourist, not a cop. Saying he was a cop will likely diminish sympathy for him, here and in China. -
Which of course is a good incentive for consulates around the world to stress that only 2 visa-free entries per calendar year are permissible as it would make tourist visas redundant for most people. I disagree with the people here suggesting that there will be a limit imposed any time soon. The whole idea of this new policy is to stimulate tourism. Russians already had unlimited visa-free entries. I spoke with a Russian "tourist" today who has been doing visa runs for over a year. I also spoke to a lady from Laos (she was a passenger in my mini-van group) who has been doing visa-free entries for years.

Forget about news outlets - it's better to get your information from people who do this every day, at the border. I went to the Banpuggard border checkpoint today, where the Pattaya visa runs go. It was hectic. I had #31 minivan for the day arriving at 8:30 am. (3.5 hour trip each way). I spoke to the lady collecting the cash, and she was quite confident that it's unlimited visa-exempt entries at this point. She was counting piles of cash. They are raking it in. An additional 2000 cash is required to change from a Non-O visa to a visa-free entry stamp. I happened to strike up a conversation with a Russian "tourist" who has been doing border runs for over a year. They get 90 days in peak season and 60 days in the off-season (May - October). My ex-wife was there to change from a non-O visa to a 60-day stamp. She hasn't left Thailand since 2015. The officer asked her how long she had stayed in Thailand, to which she replied "long time", and he stamped her out. I don't think at this point they are too concerned with how long you have stayed and they are happy for the business. New government - new rules.

Neighbors with straight-through loud exhaust in my condo
JensenZ replied to DeeMakMak's topic in General Topics
I don't respect Harleys at all and they are pure noise pollution, especially when unmuffled. I lived next door to a condo where one was parked, and when it started up, my place started rumbling and I was in the townhouses next door. They are also a danger on the road. Have you ever been riding along quietly, minding your own business and suddenly an unmuffled Harley accelerates past you because the d**head riding it wants to impress someone? It can startle you. It feels like being attacked. It produces an adrenaline rush, the type you get when someone attacks you and it gets me angry too - not a good mental state to have on the road. Unmuffled Harleys can put out 120 db. -
They really push this "he's a convicted felon" nonsense and it's backfiring spectacularly. His mug shot was a huge winner, and the more they try to convict him, the more popular he becomes. They are pushing him to legendary status. People want a strong leader who can cope with adversity, and no one has ever worked this hard and put up with so much bs as Trump.

My experience differs. I've had a Macbook Air that only lasted about 7 years, whereas my Windows PC is still kicking and going strong from 2010, and the laptop I'm typing on now is over 10 years old and still going strong. You need to look after your equipment. Give them a clean occasionally and a fresh coat of thermal paste, and don't be in a hurry to update all the time. Updating drivers is often the cause of trouble. If they work, leave them alone. As far as the operating systems go, I'll take Windows over OSX any day. My wife has the latest MacBook Air and I never touch it. She likes it because it's a pretty laptop, but only uses it watch movies and YouTube LOL.

You speak for yourself. He has plenty of fans around the world. "if he wins, the world loses"? I believe he was the president from 2017 to 2021. I lost nothing, what did you lose? You're just spreading the typical talking points of the Democrats who can't win on policy. In 2020 they spread so much hatred for Trump that a corpse stuck in the basement won.

You must be aging fast. I'm 65 and have never been offered a discount.

What is your problem? If you don't want to give up your seat, then don't. It's not compulsory and only a courtesy. You sound completely shameless anyway, so why sweat over it? The people sitting next to you might pick up the slack.

Casein should be cheaper because casein protein is 80% of milk protein vs only 20% of milk protein is whey. The only reason you might have found it more expensive is because it's not so commonly sold. After all, everyone is convinced we should be shelling out for whey protein. Unless you're a competitive athlete who needs faster absorption (benefits are debatable), the slower absorption rate of casein is an advantage for most of us. It's more like eating whole food. There's only so much protein the body can use per hour - a slower release is better in most cases. You'd save a lot of money if you stopped getting ripped off by paying 2 or more times what it's worth because it's sold in attractive containers with added flavouring and sweeteners. Also, with flavoured and sweetened products, you have a limit to how much you can consume in a drink or it will be sickly sweet, not to mention becoming sick of the flavour by the time you've finished a whole container. My last casein order on Lazada cost me 660 baht (including shipping) for 3 x 500 grams of pure casein powder, which makes it 440 baht per kilogram. Unflavoured whey protein costs me about the same as your product, about 700 baht per kilogram including delivery. Sorry, I'm not selling it so I won't provide a link, but if you search on Lazada you will find it.
