  1. Oh look, the Thaksin obsessives and coup supporters / apologists immediately come out of the woodwork to offer their 'expert advice'.. I often wonder how it feels to have been so niaive, so clueless about Thai politics and history and so utterly and completely wrong in supporting a coup which has resulted in so much division, disharmony, economic ruin and misery for so many everyday Thais, and which has led to the most unpopular government in living memory? ????
  2. This. As I stated several times before they will fiddle with the numbers to make it appear that they have succeeded in controlling the virus.
  3. Not as easy to transact as Thai gold but any gold is fairly easy to sell, white gold, pink gold etc.
  4. Funny thing it, some folk on here thought that was a better and less corrupt option than Thaksin. ????
  5. Inevitable now and the reckoning is getting closer, day by day. The person that stopped it before is now gone and there's no-one they respect enough to listen to anymore. Biggest risk right now for any investments in Thailand especially business or property is political. I am worried about my businesses in Thailand, they can't be quickly relocated but we are looking at all risks and contingencies going forward.
  6. Every Thai I know thinks the exact opposite. Nearly all of them to a man or woman hate Prayut, want him gone immediately and support the objectives of the protestors. Funny that huh? Nice avatar too mate.
  7. Dim low coup supporters on here were warned, constantly, for years that this would be the eventual outcome. Too many were completely obsessed with the Shinawatras, you see. Many still are.
  8. Yeh they look mint. Love the black powder-coating on the covers.
  9. Abhisit was never democratically elected. He became Prime Minister after a judicial coup which removed then PM Samak (for appearing on a cooking show no less) and after the Chidchob clan stabbed Thaksin in the back and went over to side with the Dems.
  10. Negligence and dereliction of duty on a scale far worse than any rice pledging scheme. Shame these guys are not accountable to anyone except themselves, but that's what happens when you have coups.
  11. Some resources here for quality aftermarket parts: Hitchcocks UK: https://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/ TEC Bike Parts UK: https://www.tecbikeparts.com/products/shop-parts/royal-enfield/ BAAK Motorcycles France (some stunning RE 650 builds): https://www.baakmotocyclettes.com/en/16-royal-enfield/s-1/category-parts/parts-royal_enfield/brand_2-royal_enfield/universe-motorcycle
  12. As the last Interceptor 650 thread was derailed with off-topic nonsense, I thought we could use a specific Royal Enfield 650 Twin thread that focuses specifically on the Interceptor and Continental GT models. Fitting as they are about to start building them in Chonburi at a new assembly plant, following Triumph and Harley-Davidson in their Thai based motorcycle production. Now based in India with a design office in the UK, Royal Enfield are the oldest motorcycle brand in constant, continuous production. If you want to know the history of the company, I will make another post below or just check Wikipedia... I have been a Royal Enfield Interceptor owner since they came out in 2019. I always wanted a modern classic twin and I was looking at buying a Triumph Street Twin when this bike was launched. After extensive research I could barely find any negative reviews of the bike, and in comparisons with the Street Twin, the Interceptor often came out on top. At half the price and with a three-year warranty I bought a new one from Royal Enfield Pattaya. It should be noted I test drove both prior to purchase and there wasn't much in it, if anything the Interceptor edged it because of the gearbox. What I love about the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: The noise - It has a 270-degree crank, so the engine noise is nothing short of glorious, similar to a V-Twin. Upright, comfortable riding position. Loads of aftermarket customisation options are available. Looks are stunning when it has a polish, a real modern classic. Gearbox and slipper clutch - pleasant to drive, engaging and one of the best gearboxes I have driven on a bike. The price. Best value big bike on the market without any question. Three year warranty and roadside service from new. Reliability - excellent reliability and build quality. Simple - you can work on this bike yourself. What I don't like (or what you might not like): Some parts are of questionable quality - indicator lights, hand and foot levers, mirrors etc. Easy to replace and there are loads of aftermarket options. I had a fuel relay issue which was fixed by replacing all the relays, not expensive but troublesome to diagnose the idling issues from new. No storage on the bike, not even under the seat. Higher riding position than the Triumph Street Twin, might not suit shorter riders. Stock mudguards look naff. Casing covers need constant polishing and care to keep them looking tip top. Please do not post nonsense about reliability of the Himalayan or other older models, this is a Twins thread, if you want to discuss other RE models start your own thread.
  13. Oh yes. The genie cannot be put back in the bottle this time. If they end the lockdowns the people will come out onto the streets en-masse. Keep the measures in place and dissatisfaction grows. Catch 22. Whatever happens this government is finished along with some of the more unsavoury types that it supports. I think the only way of preventing widespread conflict now is for the government to appoint a competent COVID-19 handling committee to make decisions, announce elections and to step down. Unfortunately this lot don't appear to be going anywhere any time soon. A failure to admit mistakes and take responsibility will be their ultimate downfall. This situation has been inevitable since 2006. With every subsequent machination to subvert the democratic process and keep the good old boys in charge it has compounded on the pressure. Thaksin just exposed it because of his popularity and because he threatened to break the old boys' network in favour of his own. It takes something like the COVID-19 situation to motivate (force) the population into action.
  14. Deferring to the proprietor's wishes as usual. Playing politics by ordering and using Chinese vaccines instead of US ones. Attempting to make money through vaccine procurement and production.
  15. I agree and I fully expect the number crunching to go into overdrive as they desperately try to open the country again for mass tourism as quick as possible. The main concern should be the health service. If it is able to function normally and not under strain or pressure then that should be the barometer whether normal service can be resumed.
  16. Historically the Thai Police use intimidation, threats and violence to protect the rich Thai-Chinese merchant class. They are not a Police force as we in the West understand, however they keep up a thin pretense so that we believe so. When it comes to stuff like riot control, investigative techniques etc. it starts to go wrong because like most organisations here it is pay to play and who-you-know rather than education, training, competence and merit.
  17. Never give cash to charities in Thailand. You can't even trust the Police here (Tsunami relief funds anyone?) If you want to donate, ask what material things they need and use the raised cash funds to buy those things. That way there is at least some level of traceability where the funds went. The main charity I support in Pattaya is happy to accept donations of rice, other food and necessities which they themselves distribute to the needy, with proof of distribution available if concerned.
  18. Good news. Coincidentally, I received a chocolate teapot and an ashtray for my motorcycle in the post this morning.
  19. According to the multi-billion dollar plans for the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), they are building a state of the art cruise ship terminal at Sattahip and improving the existing facilities in Laem Chabang.
  20. He will be taken care of with a golden parachute, just as all the rest were, Gen. Suchinda included.
