  1. WEAR A HELMET! Capitalization for emphasis as most here seem to be too stupid to understand this simple concept.
  2. They will sell motorbike insurance to anyone who is buying, why would they not? Any fool knows motorbike insurance is not normally included in travel insurance and you need to buy a separate policy covering riding bikes or driving cars etc. Indeed mandatory minimum vehicular insurance is a legal requirement in Thailand and elsewhere.
  3. What is he gonna do to keep the protestors off the streets when he can no longer use COVID-19 as an excuse?
  4. All the big banks and insurance companies offer motorcycle insurance. I have it for both the big bikes I ride occasionally.
  5. Yet I hear no similar outrage as there was against Yingluck when a dozen or so farmers allegedly topped themselves due to the rice pledging scheme.
  6. I socialise in many different circles, from my lowest paid workers that earn 12,000thb a month to govt. officials and even a couple of Thai billionaires on occasion. Seems to be common among all social strata.
  7. It appears to be a cultural phenomenon. When in Rome etc. Perfectly normal for local men to have minor wives, giks etc. It's expected.
  8. In my 32 years of experience, it's the 'normal' ones you have to watch more carefully. Can be far more dangerous than even the most seasoned of bargirls. At least with bargirls you know where you stand. Had a good mate that was murdered by his 'normal' Thai gf and her brother/boyfriend/hired hitman about 10 years ago. There's a thread about him somewhere on here. They found his body in the jungle just in his underwear. Not my only friend that was murdered by Thai gf either, there have been a couple more in my time here.
  9. I just told you earlier in the thread that it is based on real places, people and events. I know several people mentioned in the book, as well as the author himself.
  10. Singapore actively enforces this law. Personally, although it has been many years since I was in such a state of inebriation, I am glad Thailand doesn't.
  11. Arguable considering other countries particularly in Africa that are now indebted to China for similar infrastructure, and possibly for a very long time considering the amounts and interest payable. China is exercising debt trap diplomacy as part of its Belt and Road initiative in an attempt to become a global superpower.
  12. They have seen the state of Western countries in particular the UK with thousands of refugees arriving in dinghies and quite rightly thought, "we must stop that from happening here". Thailand's immigration laws are exactly what we should be doing in our home countries before they are overrun and destroyed.
  13. Let's hope that doesn't spill over into the tourist areas such as Pattaya when they start to get drunk and aggressive towards Western tourists as they inevitably will.
  14. You think Thailand is bad? I was on a job offshore Cyprus and we were put in a hotel full of Russians the night before flying out to the rig. Those were proper Russian package tourists, and thousands of them, not the more foolhardy types that make it as far as Thailand!
  15. If he is a Yellow Shirt, that immediately makes it clear to me why he is targeting foreigners. Ultranationalist, bordering on fascist, if not fully fledged fascist which a lot of them are, means foreigners are fair game.
  16. Nonsense. Thai lenders always perform credit checks on persons looking for lease finance on vehicles.
  17. A "heavily intoxicated" off-duty Policeman in a brand new BMW. Everything that is wrong with this farcical country in one sentence.
