PM Srettha Most Popular Politician, says Line Today Poll
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
His only qualification to lead a country appears to be he is a billionaire. At least the General had some experience in the military, and was ready to lay his life for the country on account of actually serving in the forces. - No action taken on pollution. Will Chiang Mai be the most polluted city in the world next January. You bet it will. How can anyone be so disgusting to not take action? -Anything done to tackle the huge inequality of wealth from rich Thais (including himself) and the majority who are further down. Nothing at all. -International policies? Nope nothing. Going to France to ask for visa free access, only not to be aware France does not make it's border policy (it controlled as a collective by the European Union). Positives - He speaks English - He smiles alot. Which makes him palatable than an angry looking military guy. -

PM Srettha Most Popular Politician, says Line Today Poll
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
He's probably the worst PM Thailand has ever had. Billionaire property founder of Sansiri. My opinion : Completely deluded, and with no concept of what is going on on the ground, other than the sanitised clean up look he gets before arriving anywhere. Has achieved nothing, other than opening up the borders to the world and the problem that it will bring to Thailand, and the ensuing ecological tourist disaster. His obsession with tourism is alarming. Rather than trying to diversify the economy like Vietnam and Philippines have, he is just bunkered Thailand down to more years of addiction to cheap mass tourism, this time on steroids. His proclomations that Thailand should host international sporting events, have free visa access to France and Germany (even though those countries are bound by the European Union rules as a collective), hub proclomations, show an alarming child like naivity. He's achieved nothing of note. Even the General was better. -

No one will loan Thailand money. The UK is like the Lannisters - it always pays it's debts. -
Outstanding questions remain about new visa rules for Thailand
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Summariy - Thailand has opened it's borders. Bad news for local Thai's, and those who enjoy the beauty of Thailand. It will be an awful experience now. -
Inflation is worldwide, and it is now controlled in the USA. This was inherited by Biden from the covid mess bailouts. The US economy is booming. We in the UK could only hope for the time of GDP growth they are getting yearly. The Dollar is also very strong, probably the most strongest currency over the past few years.

Expats angry at huge concessions in latest Thai visa announcements
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Watching the news and seeing the protests across Europe at mass tourism. I predict Thai citizens will soon by protesting following the policies of open door immigration by this lunacy leadership. You've already seen rents shoot up 50% in Phuket. When this starts hurting local Thais around Thailand that is when the lunacy policy will be seen for what it is. The DTV is going to attract the worlds biggest dross, backpackers with laptops, those hiding from military call ups, and criminals from around the world. Welcome to the new Thailand. Quality tourism? Nah, MASS CHEAP TOURISM. -

Why do so many people like Pattaya but hate Phuket?
DonniePeverley replied to susanlea's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Now can you imagine how hard it must be for local Thai's - who are also suffering. Thailand is not a developed nation that the government is inflicting this onto it's population. -
Why do so many people like Pattaya but hate Phuket?
DonniePeverley replied to susanlea's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Mass cheap tourism is turning Phuket into Pattaya. Phuket is no longer a paradise island type place - it's now a city with a beach. It's also awful with little to no infrustructure. -

What's your no 1 issue with the world?
DonniePeverley replied to susanlea's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Mass tourism. Something needs to be done. China and India, combinded population of nearly 3 billion people who are now actively travelling (although most very cheaply) - you can't have a scenario where they can just inflict enviromental damage to some of the most beautiful places in the world. For sure, those citizens have a rite to go visit the world, but there also needs to be some form of boundaries so you don't face an ecological crisis, the actual destinations decimated and sanitized. Thailand once a beautiful place, full of culture is now just a face to tourism - predominatly Chinese tourists. -
Thailand Lengthens Visa-free Stay for Hong Kong Residents
DonniePeverley replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thailand is slowly becoming the United States of China. Has their been any railways line built into Thailand from China? Under the pretext it's for both ways, but reality it is to flood Thailand with cheap Chinese made products. Anyone know if this has happened, as has been done in other neighbouring countries? -
Thai PM Launches Project to Transform Thailand into Financial Hub
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I saw the annoucement on the news. Was just a bunch of Thai's sitting around a conference room. Didn't see any international attendees. Do you think it's just an excuse for a feast, some good food, and drinks in a social gathering ? These declarations are hillarious. What do you think will be the next hub? I would just be happy if they can stop the taxi scams. -

Thai PM Launches Project to Transform Thailand into Financial Hub
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
F1, Taylor Swift, aviation Hub, visa free access to the European Union, and now this nonsense. Achieved nothing. The only thing he has achieved is opening up the borders to more mass cheap tourism, thus destroying the experience even for those on a cheap holiday because they will be surrounded by mass cheap tourists. You do wonder how grounded in reality he is from his privileged upbringing. -

How long before they start paying tourists to come to Thailand ? My prediction they will open borders to China, and allow a one way open border policy for Chinese to live and poo in Thailand for as long as they want. Of course China will keep controls on Thais entering. -

Deputy PM Anutin opposes PM Srettha’s cannabis reclassification
DonniePeverley replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
If Anutin Charnvirakul stood on a platform of right wing politics, and denounced Srettha Thavisin for his mass open door immigration/tourism policy, he would win alot of votes in Thailand. He's done the rhetoric before, during covid. Many local thai's i remember agreed with him. Whilst Thais were masking up and being careful, you had foreigners coming out acting like big shots not abiding by the rules/laws and showing respect as visitors in the country. He got much support for being one of the only guys to dare speak up. This time next year Thais will be furious when tourism levels reach record breaking figures, rents shoot up, and there is a takeover by the Indian/Russina/Chinese communities. We've seen protests in France, Spain, Japan against mass tourism. Srettha is from a background in Real estate, and that's where most of his policies (in my opinion) seem to be benefitting. He is doing very little (or unable to) to diversify Thai's economy the way Vietnam or Malaysia have done to great success. Instead it's more a less a push to cheap mass tourism (but on Steroids). It's if Anutin is wise enough to realise the open goal he has. -

99-Year Land Lease To Foreigners Will Harm Thailand: Jatuporn
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand is a developing nation, not a developed rich country. Homes are still needed for Thai people, before foreigners come and speculate / hide money, etc A government should remember this - there first job is to look after it's population, MORE SO IF THE COUNTRY IS DEVELOPING. The PM / Sansiri property development would love this, but it would hurt local Thai people.
