Playing cards are illegal in Thailand even worse the were playing for money ! God knows what the sentence will be
The cops will confiscate the 6,500 baht and clip all the "rich" women with farang husbands for 2,000 baht each.

Take her to the doctor for antibiotics. Save doing it a few days once the infection sets in.
Otherwise she'll look like this tomorrow.

I think it has been established that playing bridge without money or prizes is not illegal. However (IIRC), in the famous Pattaya Bridge Club raid there was alcohol being served in the afternoon and more than the permitted number of playing cards were found on the premises.
Get a rope! Drag them to the nearest tree!

SIGH.
The OP was edited AFTER I copy/pasted the EXACT line from it where it said "drinking". But thanks for coming along AFTER the OP was edited to tell me how wrong I was.
The moderators need to publish a BIG HONKING CORRECTION notice on the original post.

Um, a big to you too.
I quoted EXACTLY what was written in the ORIGINAL article, BEFORE it was edited.
But go ahead and fell all smug and **** for coming in and reading way after everyone else.
I quoted the same thing Kerryd and have defended you tirelessly. Many apologized.
Yes, the article was altered/edited.

can I play "Snap"
5 card draw. Deuces wild is my game.
Nickel ante. Max bet 50 cents.
Used to play Blackjack on the school bus with a friend when I was 9 or 10...we had an hour's ride.
I got pretty good at it, though we never gambled.

A very simple question. Is playing a game of Bridge with some friend, WITHOUT involving ANY money or equivalent, illegal Thailand? If so how come that such clubs are advertised in news media for expatriates?
You must've missed the "bridge players getting busted" thread last year.

If it's 35 years for picking mushrooms, where do these compulsive gamblers feature in the scale?
If people aren't allowed to gamble, why is the lottery allowed to operate? Oh yes, of course, the money goes into the right pockets!
Great points.
I recall 30 years ago when the lottery was legalized in Florida.
ALL the money was to go to the schools. It didn't. They have ships in Florida port that go out beyond a 3 mile limit to permit casinos to operate.
Try to ban something, and....it still happens.
Makes the busy-bodies of the world feel good about themselves though I guess?

No, but they're the ones providing the funds.
Farang funds taste twice as sweet to the Thai authorities.
That's why they called the game Dummy. It was named after the husbands.

Must have been an edit done. The post now days drinking but not gambling.
Yes. The article was edited after it was ridiculed twice on the first page of this thread.

Playing a friendly card game with money is illegal and people will be charged. However, it is ok for motorists to break the law with their crap driving abilities and the biggest of them all...... collection of tea money. Think they could use their time more appropriately.
All these women have farang husbands. That's all this is about. Collecting tea money.
Cannot believe the retards filmed it.

Thankfully no-one tried to do a runner & mow a policeman down in the street, they'd have to drop the charges !!
Thankfully none of the old women had a shotgun. They'd have had to back off and call in "braver" police.
Does anybody remember that article from a year or two ago? Some clown had a shotgun in the woods. The cops backed off, and called in "braver" cops.

Brake failure my ass.
Start calling it what it is. Maintenance failure, which caused the brakes to fail.
I wasn't there, but I'd have run the bus into a hill, a tree, a rock, a pole, parked cars whatever to keep from running into people.

No worries mate! Not your fault two conflicting articles that said different things were set as the original article, with no correction notice added to it.
They could/should have added the correction notice to the bottom of the article...and still should.

At one time the Thai police had to buy their own guns (and motorbikes and uniforms) - so has this all changed now? Free guns if you don the skin-tight brown catsuit?
HAHAHAHA!

It does seem a bit ridiculous until I recall an expat former neighbor who had his car repoed because the money he was giving to his girlfriend for the car payment went to gambling instead.
The game is called dummy, as that's what their farang husbands are for giving them money.

FYI. Just found out the game is gin rummy, but Thai's call it dummy...for some unknown reason. They think it's funny.
I know why. Because it attract dummies... It attracted the cops didn't it?

The article was changed AFTER it was ridiculed TWICE on the first page of this thread!

My former neighbor's wife gambled their house away plus a bunch of money they didn't have playing cards in Ubon.
They were living in Pattaya on the lam from loan sharks.
I was working in Southern California & decided to check out Vegas one weekend.
I'm half decent at a poker game, as long as it's pocket change and nickel ante. My biggest haul ever was $15 USD.
I sat down & played video poker and lost $20 in about 10 minutes. That was the end my Vegas gambling.
I did NOT like the casinos at all, & found them to be loud, obnoxious places. Never went back and never plan to.

Where did you glean your quote from? I must have read a different version or did you,? Here is what I read. "Three others who were drinking on an adjoining table were let go as there was no evidence they were gambling. Nothing about drinking.
See post 78, three posts above yours.
I quoted it too on the 1st page of this thread. Highlight text, and click "Quote this".

The article was changed post mortem, after it had been quoted and ridiculed twice and it said "they were drinking, but there was no evidence they were drinking."
Pattaya has barely seen the like of it since the infamous bust of the foreign bridge players in February last year

Yes. The Pattaya SWAT team is anyhow.
Did you watch the video? HILARIOUS!
You'd think they were raiding Pablo Escobar.
