  1. The Dalai Lama has an interesting perspective on the death penalty: As long as a person is alive, he may change his attitudes. Therefore, death penalty is not wise. Let him retain the chance to advance in evolution, or spirituality.

No, I do not have a religion, but honor Truth wherever I find it. Buddhism, for me is an attitude, philosophy, way of life, and I remain eclectic.

Also, reincarnation would suggest that we have all been there before, or will be in the future, for it is experience, of every kind, that the soul desires, whether or not this is pleasing for the personality.

There are infant souls, souls that are babies, young souls, mature souls, old souls. etc.

This planet is about learning love and compassion, mastering----- keeping in balance money, power, and sex, with higher energies.

When we judge another, we invite their experience into our lives. That same-sameness as Buddha-Nature, pure consciousnes, Christ energy, or whatever a culture wants to call it, is the only principle that animates us all, and suggests that we are One Self. Therefore, what energy I send to my seeming neighbor, I send to myself, for I am also part of the Totality.

The above are some of the lessons I am trying to learn, so that I can deal with such issues.

    Chok dee to all!

A great first post. Congratulations. Will look forward to more from you.

I am reading "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle who writes "The Truth is inseperable from who you are. Yes, you are the Truth. If you look for it elsewhere, you will be deceived every time. The very being that you are is Truth."

  2. As expected there has been no response from the authorities i contacted

    :o

But thank you for contacting them. I wouldn't expect them to get back to you but maybe, just maybe, they are going to do something.

  3. I feel that BPH does over prescribe. But what really exasperates me is that doctors will often not tell you what meds they are prescribing and what they are for. e.g this is for pain, this is for reflux, this to sedate you a little bit, and so on. So I get to pharmacy after paying the bill (do always ask for a detailed bill) and pharmacist plonks a bag of various pills in front of me. I ask what the side effects are and they have no idea. So I ask them to get MIMS and make them look up each and every medicine. Then when I don't get better I go to Bumrungrad to see Dr. Visuit, cardiologist, (recommended by a western GP) have EKG, and put alll the pills on his desk. Out of 4 medications he says he has no idea why I am taking 2.

What to do? I suggest looking up Bumrungrad web site and choosing a doctor who has had years of study and experience in a western country. One should try to choose the best available within one's financial situation. So far I have been very happy with Bumrungrad. Sure, doctors and nurses make mistakes. We can minimize the risk by trying to choose the best.

  4. This would be an interesting and informative forum if it wasnt for all the vise guys cracking jokes about everything. Getting a bit boring to wade thrugh all the manure so please save the crap for the bars. IMHO!

Ah now that you`ve brought up jokes in this thread....A swede a Dane and a Norwegian were walking in the forest one day when they met a fearsome Troll who naturally wanted to eat them.

"I`ll spare your lives if you manage to tell me to do one thing I can`t do."

The Swede said, "Look at that mountain and Eat it."

The Troll did and then he ate the Swede.

The Dane said, "Look at that lake over there and Drink it!"

The Troll did and he ate the Dane.

The Norwegian fainted and said, "Catch my fart and paint it green!"

The Norwegian was allowed to go on his way.

And that's why "Viking" is still around, live and well, and living in Pattaya.

Oh, away with you now. Thank the Lord for the "vise guys" and a few jokes to give us all a laugh.

  6. I've stayed at the PB Hotel in the soi opposite the main entrance road to Bumrungrad Hospital in Soi 3. Was previously called the Playboy Hotel. Clean and quiet and very reasonable. Management surprised but happy to accomodate me. All the girls are already accompanied so nobody bothers you. But take mosquito repellant. There's a pond in the garden and too many mossies.

  7. Tutcom and South Pattaya Road, on the forth floor ( i think), many computer stalls, when ever i have a problem i either

    1) Take my computer to them, which often is easier and quicker as Thais couldn’t find any housing estate or even a land mark for instance View Talay 1 condo. If it was the only condo block in Jomtein, they would be driving around all night “where your room Mr”. Adding “I not know this place”. Then when they finally fall upon it some 8 hours later “Ah Mr I come here many times”

    2) Get them to come to my house and wait for the 10 phone calls "Mr where you", to which I reply "in the same place when you called first and exactly as written on the map in Tinglish". With the only reply they know, pass the phone to one of their friends who has a lower i.q and speaks even less English. “Hello, Hello, Hello,”

If taking your computer to Tukcom, do not, repeat do not go on Tuesday or Friday. No parking due to the amount of people turning up at the market opposite and walking around bewildered, finally stopping at the most narrow walkway, looking into a vendors jump pile, holding up everyone behind for some 2 minutes before finally walking on without even asking the price of any of the fantastic products on offer. Tyre kickers. They all come out of a Tuesday and Friday.

  8. Condolences to the friends and family of the victim. I hope they find out what exactly went wrong and I hope the thread doesn't end up closed because of comments that are meant to be humorous. I had enough trouble resisting.

Yes!! you did very well :o

What on earth could be humorous about this situation?

I'm sorry I asked that question. Please don't reply. I. for one, would rather not be privy to your sense of humour.

  10. I knew Noel for a short time - too short a time. He was always so cheerful, always a twinkle in his eyes even knowing he had a very serious condition. May he rest in peace and may his family and friends and girlfriend be comforted knowing that they were a very large part of his joy of living.

I like the idea of contributing to the Camillian Center to honour his memory. Jai Dee - a very apt description of both Noel and the project.

  11. Bought one on last trip in Tops at Secon Sq and they delivered it following morning (Sunday)....2 door stainless steel jobbi to go with new kitchen.... and got a 25,000 bt discount... :D (Samsung) and paid with my Nationwide CC card ...no charges ...

Loads of room now for my big bottles of Heinees and frozen haggisis :o

Where do you get haggis from? My fridge could do with a little bit - it's like Mobi's, freezer part empty apart from a packet of peas.

  12. Sorry, I have no recommendations but would like to know what's wong with Jomthien.

I have no idea, but I simply do not like Jomtien and Pratumnak, mainly for security issues (which you more or less have all over Pattaya).

Yes, security is difficult, mainly where condo management is poor. Co-owners need to be active and keep pushing for improvements - take photos of sleeping guards, check their garbage for alcohol cans/bottles, complain when you can't find them at or near their stations, insist on good manners and tidy stations. Never get friendly with guards.

  13. I am trying to get out of Jomtien area and look for some apartment to rent in another part of the city. Anybody got some experience with the Nova Mirage condo in Wong Amat? Any other recommendations in the Naklua area?

    Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I have no recommendations but would like to know what's wong with Jomthien.

  14. can anybody tell me if laser hair removal can be done in pattaya, and how much it would be.

Bangkok Pattaya Hospital has a program but it's expensive.

Ask Dr. Chanchai at Pattaya International Hospital. But he is only there on Mondays.

  15. Yes, well said johnbgood.

Murder suicide does seem to happen here more so than elsewhere but maybe it's because there is a lot of temptation in the LOS for both sexes, especially if your Teeruk is of the bar.

On your other point, I actually look at these older guys with young gf's with admiration.

Their choices are; a beautiful young gf in Asia, or, a 55+ woman from Farangland.

    Which would you prefer.

My father, 61, recently came over to Asia with his 61 year old Oz "girlfriend". I couldn't imagine how anyone could be genuinely be happy with his situation. He is a good looking and successful man. I certainly wont be following in his footsteps as far as relationships go.

Let's wait and see! And your Dad and his gf probably have much in common to do and talk about. Good for them! I have a male aquaintance of 80+ who has recently taken a gf of 60+ and they are soooooooo happy! Good for them too!

  16. What's wrong with these guys???

A 30 year age gap would be hard enough in the west, coming from the same background, culture etc...But in LOS...sheeshh... :o

There's nothing wrong with them. They are looking for companionship and, in many cases, I think these guys do find a loving relationship. A friend married an Asian woman 30 years his junior, baby daughter has just arrived. They have been so happy since the moment they met. I like to see all the happy couples (old men with young Thai lady) when I "people watch" at Carrefour.

  17. Yes, really. After the heat of March, April, and May, a drop in temperature of 2 to 3 degrees is a relief, as is the cloud cover, as is being able to walk without constantly sidestepping miserable- looking farang visitors.

    Really???? :o

June and July are my favourite months. Cooler
