  1. Sounds well worth considering, especially with no deposit to be paid and therefore no hassles on departure. Only negative impacts I can see is (and they may overshadow the gains) 1) Immigration i.e. TM30 and TM47 when needing an annual extension or another service, 2) postal deliveries - even having resided for nearly 20 years in the same house, a lot of foreign mail doesn't arrive e.g. demands for proof of life for pensions, and 3) maintaining up to date address details with DLT, Banks, etc.
  2. If he'd entered on a 15/30 day tourist extension he wouldn't be expected to do a 90 day report, probably he arrived in say Bangkok and moved there, and wouldn't notify of his arrival. I was here for 3 extensions (2 of them annual) before I found out I should have been doing 90 day reports as well, Immigration never queried the fact lack of reports, and I only found out be being bored and started to read their noticeboard.
  3. Why "deepened the situation", or is it being inferred that if he'd used his Canadian passport, there wouldn't be a problem (I don't think so).
  4. Yes, there is a lower amount (40k pm) for those married to Thai's, but you did in the header ask specifically about retirement (which is 65k pm).
  5. A number of media streams, written and visual, around the world use library pictures to enhance the story. Recently I was watching a news article from a GB news source about the "riots" in the UK, the video clip of the violence being used showed clearly marked NYPD (New York Police Department) officers.
  6. Maybe the police are still trying to find out what he's done wrong.
  7. It wasn't for 2 NZ brothers
  8. No, they are not above the law, how can they be above something which doesn't apply to them.
  9. IMO Only problem would be did your bank balance comply fully with the "2 months before, 3 months after and 400k between".
  10. Confused thought 'B' visa was for working not being married, and thought 'Non-O' was for "Thai wife", which allows you to work.
  11. In the past I've even had to pass through passport control to get from the arrival gate to the departure lounge on some split flights (presumably due to domestic and international flights arriving at adjacent gates at the same time)
  12. Only the account(s) you are using for the 800k, as the balance only changes with interest/tax, they once enquired "where does your living money come from", my reply was I have other bank accounts here. An aside Phetchabun did not like my friend using 2 accounts to hold his 800k and told him to go to Pattaya to get his extension, despite it being OK the year before.
  13. Been a requirement of my local office (Phetchabun) ever since it opened in 2017.
  14. Correct, but the Immigration income requirement for "Marriage" at 40k pm, would probably not be high enough for a tax bill to be issued, whereas "Retirement" at 65k pm probably would be. It's use for tax purposes could be as a check on whether "bank interest" is being declared.
  15. They heard you were coming, dressed as you were the other day when you answered the door, and did a runner. Seriously it's low season, and there are not as many tourists around. Phuket (or Russia 2) has the advantage (or maybe not) of having a large number of escapes from the war.
  16. Don't doubt it in the slightest, I'm going to try again. They also have an e-banking savings account which is available through the app (slightly higher interest) but is available to Thai nationals only.
  17. My friend has 2 Bangkok Bank accounts in his banking app, the branch actually added the 2nd for him. When they told me I was only allowed to have 1 account, I was also informed that there is no restriction on the number of accounts for Thai nationals.
  18. I have been unable to add my second account (actually my original account, which I've had for 20+ years) into the app. The branch has also failed on more than 2 occasions to include it, the last time I approached them to try I was informed that "foreigners were not allowed to have more than 1 bank account". Rubbish I know but that was the official branch line.
  19. I always sent money from my UK account to Wise (generally Wise acknowledge receipt before the UK bank confirms sent), from Wise if I send it to Bangkok Bank before 8:30am in Thailand Monday to Friday and using the "Funds for long stay" it arrives in my account just after 2pm same day. If I send from Wise Saturday or Sunday or after 8:30am it will normally arrive the next working day at about 2pm. If I use another reason for the transfer e.g. "Monthly Expenses" or "Hospital", generally arrives in minutes. Larger sums i.e. over 50k THB do seem to additional suffer delays.
  20. Simple Australia want rid of you so they foot the bill, Thailand are not prepared to pay for your repatriation, so you stay in IDC until you can get enough money together to pay for your flight, Immigration overstay fine, other court fine if any and your stay in IDC, in other words Thailand don't want you but still want your money.
  21. vacate the premises in favor of the nearest shopping mall, remembering to switch off your aircon on the way out the door, you don't need it if your not there.
  22. and will have to find somewhere else to get their haircuts.
  23. First time I used Wise I requested they access funds direct from my bank, this transaction fell over and locked both my Wise & Bank accounts for a few days. Since then I have always sent the money from my bank using the bank app. Then gone into Wise to forward it to Thailand, have never had an issue doing it this way.
  24. using your name as recipient and bank details of another has probably triggered a "money laundering" investigation, would be a good idea to phone Wise.
