Close every similar establishment in Thailand, inspect them and only if all requirements are met allow re-opening. I doubt many will pass first time! Next check hotels especially for fire escapes, locked fire exit doors and blocked stairways. Any inconvenience to customers will be worth it

Suggest ALL nightclubs/discos and the like are immediately shut countrywide, pending an immediate full inspection for safety standards. Only permit re-opening when all is safe.............AND licences are held by those who operate them.
I doubt many ouldl be allowed to re-open without significant alterations being carried out.

Years ago in London, I was carrying out a Fire risk management survey of a 6 storey factory. Starting at the top, I encountered a locked fire exit with some 20/30 women working on the floor. They told me the key was with the manager. I went down, told him what I found and requested the door be unlocked. He told me it was his factory, he did what he wanted and ejected me
I had the last laugh as my partner worked for the Health and Safety Executive as a Factory Inspector. She arranged an impromptu unannounced visit the next day, and promptly closed the factory down!????

Sadly here in Thailand, most complaints fall on deaf ears. We are just seen as troublemakers As well travelled farangs we have far more experience than most Thais, and as well as wanting improvements and safety for ourselves, we also want to help the ordinary Thais.

I used to live at the rear of the property in the adjoining soi. I just happend to be on Ko Samet on the morning of the fire, and read about it next morning. The exterior of my house suffered smoke damage.. The word at the time was that in excess of 100 people died. The owners may have been charged, but I think that was as far as it went
Several years later the hotel was rebuilt and extended, and a large machine room was constructed adjoining my property. Decibels well over 80. I managed to get the noise abatement people down and they insisted sound proofing was installed. and the doors kept closed ------- something the owners refused to do when I spoke with them!
I have now sold up and moved to quieter Isaan.

To date she has not been named. She is probably the wife of a VIP, so all cases automatically dropped.

Som Nom Na! They have only themselves to blame. Rip the public off with overpriced tickets and now have the audacity to complain that they cannot sell their tickets!

I am actually in a somewhat similar position but I have 10 months to sort it out.
My plan is to apply for renewal 6 months before expiry giving plenty of time for them sort it and hopefully the current HMPO Situation will have improved by then.

Brain doesn't seem to be working today. Where, precisely, does one book online a Trendy appointment for passport renewal?
Can't find any windows on https://visa.vfsglobal.com/tha/en/gbr/hmpo
Thanks in advance!
Windows?? What windows?
The link you gave is the correct one. read it thoroughly and do what it says
You contact VFS by email with a choice of 3 days/times to submit your appliation. Choose days at least 10 days in advance, and do not try for June now..they likely as noy have not opened their June booking as yet!

No need, I dropped off and picked up a passport for an old fella who couldn't make the trip.
Only require ID and a letter of authority from the passport holder. Easy for folks in Bangkok, but not those living hundreds of Kms away

Even before this article since my brother plans a trip to BKK to renewal his passport in August expired March 2023, I was thinking of tagging along.
My passport isn't due to Expire October of 2024, can I renewed with how things are going never can be too safe? ????
One can renew a British pasport at anytime. However no credit is given for unexpired time as it used to be
As for "tagging along" with your brother, note that everything at VFS has to be done by appointment - often being fixed 2/3 weeks in advance. Your brother will not be able to just ask for his passport to be renewed when he is there with you.
Check the websites for documents required to renew.............Proof of Thai address being very important, plus of course colour copies of EVERY page of your current British passport including blanks.,

So did I. But the problem now with the British Embassy and may be others, they no longer send them back by Mail so if you live like I do a 7 hr+ drive away, then that means 2 night stay in hotels+ all incurred expenses, or use an agent to pick it up and then they post it to you. It makes no Rhyme or Reason at all. Anyone know must you apply in person ?
For British pasports, it is not necessary to personally attend to apply or pick up the returned passport. There are agents you can have to do it for you. You do however have to deal by post with these agents, unless you happen to live where they are based, and it can take time to ensure everything is in order to be presented to VFS. VFS can sometimes be very nit-picking, especially when it comes to photo size and possible glare from the wearing of glasses.

I have a lifetime driving licence, issued some 35 years ago. Some people have suggested to me that this is no longer valid, but never had any problems when asked to produce the licence at a road check.

Not needed. Line of inheritance in Thailand, wife will get anyway on presenting your marriage & death certificate.
Unfortunately not so.
Whether one has prepared a Will, or dies intestate, Thai banks will not release money without the sight of a Thai probate document.- and a Thai lawyer is required to obtain this, and they are not cheap! When a foreigner dies intestate, his money etc - IN THAILAND- is subject to Thai intestacy rules, which state that 50% goes to his family in his homeland (pecking order--parents, all children, siblings etc etc) with just 50% to his Thai wife. A wife/widow will only receive 100% if there is a Will naming her as beneficiary.

How legal would that be? Just the same as using a UK address when you don't live there?
Absolutely. Totally illegal. But there are very many that apply for their pensions using a UK address (son/daughter most often) yet never visit the UK. And it is mainly these folk that suggest the full pension is illegally withheld from them and have no qualms claiming from the UK.
For the record, I am not one .

tax free allowance is £12,500, and if claiming 10% of wife's allowance makes it £13,875, so,
some 'old' state pensions are higher than the new 'fixed' pensions, but if they could be higher than £12.500 i don't think so but always willing to be corrected with links.
The Tax Personal Allowance rose by a massive £70 on 6th April last to £12,570.

Could be worse, you could have to live in UK for 2 years prior to retirement, you could lose on a sliding scale upto 50% if you live abroad or you will not get paid after spending 180 days abroad.
I fear that could come about before too long.
