    Agreed on all comments...

Any rental agency renting out to those without licenses should be penalsied - after all, that is the LAW isn't it ????

And...   What about the list of Thai's arrested for 'rule breaking'...

In Bangkok on my Soi I counted 19 riders before before I saw on with a helmet.....

The major concern here is the directive to target foreigners....  its wholly wrong... we are simply seeing racism in practice.

While I agree with targeting those who are breaking regulations, the directive has to be target all wrong doers, whatever the nationality anything else is simply prejudice and its not even dressed up as anything else.

What I see now is pure and simple xenophobic behavior on an official level.

Yes, because you look at a website aimed at foreigners

Nothing wrong with bike bikes.  It's the speed that kills.

I feel a lot safer on a big bike than a scooter.  At high speed, both riders are at risk of becoming a fatality.

At low speed the scooter will likely crumble and rider hurt.  A big bike can survive a low speed crash better due to construction and materials used.

On a big bike you can use acceleration to get out of the 'danger zone'.

Both types of bike still require respect when you ride them.  Know their and your capabilites and ride accordingly.   Use the mirrors constantly... a mindset that everyone is out to get you isn't a bad one to have in Thailand.

Be seen... wear hi-viz.  It helps alot.

I imported my big bike to here, but after a few years sold it. Too dangerous, and only driving at speeds under 80 km would be a waste of the bike.

the police refuse to arrest thais that break the same rules everyday but chase foreigners because there is more money in it for them, the police totally ignore thais breaking road regulations right in front of them, I see it all the time.  Bikes/cars/trucks driving the wrong way on a street, nothing, no licence, nothing, bikes/cars/trucks running red lights, nothing, failing to idicate, nothing, speeding, nothing, bikes with multiple people on them or no helmets, nothing. Thai police are very selective on who they pull over if they work at all, it all depends totally on how much graft they can get away with

Please tell that to my son.
    BS.

What exactly does a monarch actually do?

They rubber stamp parliament's bills, they have no actual power.

Open a few new roads, make an appearance at an old peoples home maybe.

At least a President, love or hate them actually do a real job, and if you hate the job they do you get rid of them at the next election

As much as we Americans seem obsessed by them as a tabloid spectacle, we don't have to pay for them!

So as long as you want them, go for it, but I'd say Versailles is still one Hell of a tourist attraction, even without the Sun King.

Depends on the country. In some monarchs have an important role, in others it is ceremonial.

Same as presidents, in some countries a president has a ceremonial role, in others he is the main decision maker.

And don't underestimate the costs involved with the presidents, it wouldn't surprise me if all in all a monarchy can work out cheaper.

I personally think a monarchy also is something special, gives a country a higher standing.
