To get a refund of withheld interest from the Jomtien Revenue Office they want a copy of the entries in my SCB Easy Passbook. But the SCB Easy account is an online account that doesn't have a passbook. So SCB easy is not so Easy for me. It's more like SCB Catch 22. Has anyone encountered this problem? For future years, I think SCB has stopped their withholding. I'll know in June. But would like to get my 2021 refund.

Eating qnd Drinking Establishments and Bars in Ban Chang-Covid
shortstop2 replied to khaepmu's topic in Eastern Thailand
So unlike in Pattaya, the bars on the Ban Chang strip cannot operate as bars with a "restaurant license"? Are the real restaurants able to sell beer? -
An news article said: Is the quote above accurate or does the testing requirement only apply to those taking the ferry to Koh Samet? Is Rayong Province in the Orange Zone which means that bars/restaurants cannot serve alcohol? I am particularly in the hotels, bars, and restaurants in Ban Chang. Thanks!

Thanks Safety First! Just want to make sure that I have it correct because according to Google Maps no right turn is permitted onto Route 3376 so it seems we would need to a little loop which is no big deal. Or perhaps Google Maps is wrong which wouldn't be the first time. https://goo.gl/maps/qqcqUw4qvPjYXNhC7 Looking forward to a nice ride!

Eating qnd Drinking Establishments and Bars in Ban Chang-Covid
shortstop2 replied to khaepmu's topic in Eastern Thailand
Are the bars on the Ban Chang strip currently open and if so are they closing at 9PM or 11PM? As i recall many closed early even before Covid. Thanks! Thinking about taking a motorbike trip and toying with the idea of staying overnight so that we can have a few beers. -
Thanks Steve! I was fooling around with Google Maps and found a route east of 7 and 331 while your route is mostly west of those roads. I don't know the degree of difficulty of these roads and a guy I ride with is a new motorbike driver. Is your route or the one I came up with better for a beginner? Or perhaps my route may have other flaws as I don't know these roads. https://goo.gl/maps/Jky1KbbQWUFcGVzr5

Is there a way to get from Jomtien to Ban Chang by backroads for a pleasant scooter ride? Recently went from Jomtien to Bangsaray mostly along busy roads under construction and it wasn't very scenic or scooter friendly.

Keep money for 3 months after extension
shortstop2 replied to EricTh's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Even if the rule is the application date, I am keeping money in at least until 3 months after the extension date to avoid an unpleasant surprise. -
SCB EZ Savings
shortstop2 replied to shortstop2's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
A regular Krungsri savings account pays 0.25% interest. Mee Tae Dee pays 1% but you are limited to 2 free withdrawals per month. So best to have both with the bulk of your money in the Mee Tae Dee and do an online transfer once a month or a second time if the need arises. Have the debit card attached to everyday low interest account. -

No. Mee Tae Dai is currently 1% but 1.1%. pn the first 100K. Yes. I have a retirement visa Go to a Revenue Office and ask for one. I forget exactly what documentation, if any, that I needed to provide as it was quite a while ago. No, you are not required to fill out a tax return every year but you have the option to do so. Hopefully, for the 2022 tax year I will have no interest withheld and therefore no reason to file a return. -

That is what you would get net after the tax is withheld. But you can file a Thai tax return every year and get the withheld tax back assuming you you have less than about 150,000 Thai income. It's easy enough to get a Tax ID card at the Revenue Office. My issue was the bank employee did not want to take my Tax ID number to stop the withholding but I "think" I got that sorted. Immigration may not accept this account for an Extension of Stay since there is no bankbook. So I keep my 800K in a Mee Tae Dai account at Krungsri. -

Think they are closed at least according to Google. -
Thai Tax Form
shortstop2 replied to shortstop2's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
It's possible that my bank had my old address. It's also possible that that there could have been a mismatch because perhaps one document might have the condo office address and the other my specific address. So thanks for the input TopT as I will check and see which address my bank has and make sure to file the form with the same address. -
Departure card and jomtien
shortstop2 replied to PattayaKevin's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My friend lost his departure card. It's a requirement for getting his Non-O retirement visa. Anyone know the procedure/which desk at Jomtien etc. Should he try to get his Non-O without the card or go a day early to sort out the departure card? -
Thai Tax Form
shortstop2 replied to shortstop2's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
That's my only Thai income. Thanks TopT. So it seems I still need to receive the letter which I never wind up receiving and make multiple trips to the Revenue Office before I get some coupon which I bring to KT Bank and put on my moneycard. I must be doing something wrong that my tax return seems to get flagged for a delay every year. -
Bangkok Bank clearly did not want to set up my account using the original ACH method. They kept telling me the IDD method was better but I kept on insisting that I want the ACH method. It took more than 2 hours with the manager and they said that they would not be mailing it to Manila and I had to that myself. of course at the end I had to listen to an insurance pitch. If I did open up an account using the IDD method it would have been with one of my other banks.

My social security payments show up in my Bangkok Bank restricted account coded FTT. Is there a website that publishes the NYC rate? If it is a small difference it is possible that it is the time of day or date it is credited to your account rather than a difference in the rate between the NYC branch and Thai branch.
