  1. Russia's smartest move would be to replace Putin with an actual democracy, decommission its nuclear stockpile and join the EU.
  2. Poland has said it's willing to lead troops into Ukraine, presumably along the northern border with Belarus.
  3. That's my strategy as well. Portable monitors are a bit expensive and small. When I came to Thailand I brought a monitor with me as it fitted in my baggage allowance. I only regret not bringing my newest monitor which was QHD, so I put up with my FHD. I think a mini desktop is the way to go. If I made frequent short trips I'd rather fork out for a portable monitor as the cost of an equivalent laptop is probably still higher, especially one with a 16 inch monitor. My daily driver is a mac mini m2 but I also have an ASUS PN-51 mini.
  4. Apple macs can be upgraded for about 7 or 8 years typically. I doubt that Windows will update longer on hardware older than that. Most people would update their computers more often than that. People with hardware older than that should probably look at ubuntu.
  5. A BBC commentator was saying that similar failed rebellions in Russia have portended bad outcomes in the past, such as one before the collapse of the soviet union. It's possible that we may soon see a black swan event which will propel the price of gold to new highs very quickly. It's just a thought.
  6. Sure, that's why I have some BTC and am bullish on it now. BTC is a risky asset class. It does tend to follow central bank liquidity to some extent. That's why I'm a bit cautious on it now. We had 10 years of virtually free money which is why it bolted to 60k. Interest rates are rising and liquidity is being withdrawn from the US markets which imo don't portend well for BTC. It has never been a safe haven asset as some think it is, rather it responds positively to loose monetary policies. The high volatility of BTC reflects the riskiness of the asset which attracts some investors. Investment diversity dictates some BTC in any portfolio.
  7. True, but at one point a BTC portfolio would be down close to 50%. I am not a hodler for that reason. Right now you'd be up only 8%. Not good averages over 2 years. Please let me know how to pick the absolute top and bottoms, you seem to have a talent for it. To be clear, right now I'm bullish on BTC. Historically that probably means sell now.
  8. I think that's true of all markets. That said, Gold was over 2,000 about 12 years ago and fell to 1050. I'd call that a fraction. Like all markets, there's a time to buy and a time to sell.
  9. OK, I was out by 4 years. I have to admit to not following the life and times of Elvis, it seemed like a lot longer.
  10. I'd like to know the answer to that as well. At a guess I'd say that both asset classes are highly speculative and so attract speculative investors as opposed to hedge funds. That said, hedge funds have now been forced to buy into high tech to balance their portfolios which has created a bubble. IF that's true, I'd expect a further price crash in both. My tiny portfolio (my form of gambling) is betting on that. I shorted NVDA, that's real, guts ????
  11. Easily disproved. If you started DCA in November last year you'd be heavily out of pocket now. If you started last week you'd be up a bit now. I'm still crying that I created a wallet in 2014 but never funded it.
  12. Gold's industrial use reflects a miniscule proportion of its value. On another claim of yours in a different thread you might note that the price of gold is highly correlated with high tech stocks.
  13. Beautiful photos. You are living my dream. Keep it up.
  14. Thailand is less boring that , say, Singapore or Malaysia. Us bottom of the barrel types don't like boredom.
  15. You're probably right, he wasn't there today at 11am.
  16. Probably. You'd need to weight the stats for age and income. Bangkok is more expensive while Pattaya is more of a party town. Farangs living in Bangkok tend to be wealthier or still working. This guy is obviously a tourist. The place he is living is not a condo block, it's a hotel with a daily or monthly rate.
  17. True. The European countries where the age of consent is 14 include Germany, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Austria, Serbia, Albania, Bulgaria, Estonia, and Montenegro.
  18. Cheap words. That isn't the cheapest digs in town. Should we all avoid Pattaya because there happens to be prostitution there?
  19. It's no different from gold. No intrinsic value except what people are willing to pay for it. The fact that you can see and touch it makes no difference. Not one bitcoin can ever be destroyed unless the entire world's internet is brought down permanently. If that happens we will have a lot more to worry about than using a few bitcoin. Smart people never bet the farm on any one asset class anyway. Meantime, there's money to be made, or lost. I have a couple of grand sitting in bitcoin now. I lost a bit of money learning to trade but now I am up.
