Employers have added 14 million jobs

That's the horrible thing about math. It doesn't lie. Anecdotes are way better for that. -
Gaza destruction risks lost generation of children, says UN official
ozimoron replied to stats's topic in The War in Israel
A member of Israel’s War Cabinet, former army chief Gadi Eisenkot, said last week that the only way to free the remaining hostages was through a cease-fire. In an implicit criticism of Netanyahu, he said claims to the contrary amounted to “illusions.” Hamas has said it will not free more hostages until Israel ends its offensive. https://apnews.com/article/israel-hamas-war-news-01-21-2024-02caafa092668ecc7ff122229c166807 -
Blow to Biden as poll shows Trump in lead for 2024 presidential election
ozimoron replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
That's just far right talking points. Ya'll know that if employers who employed illegal immigrants were jailed it would stop in a heartbeat. Y'all only want to use it as a whipping post to get votes by blaming the dems. The reality is that the right wing just refused a border deal in the house because it might fix the problem. -
The Constitution at fault or what?
ozimoron replied to Thailand's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
People understand the constitution perfectly. They also understand that the only democratic way to elect a president is one man one vote. A continuation or worsening of the trend toward election of presidents (always republican) with a minority of the popular vote can't last without severe repercussions. Standard civics-class accounts of the Electoral College rarely mention the real demon dooming direct national election in 1787 and 1803: slavery. If the system’s pro-slavery tilt was not overwhelmingly obvious when the Constitution was ratified, it quickly became so. For 32 of the Constitution’s first 36 years, a white slaveholding Virginian occupied the presidency. https://time.com/4558510/electoral-college-history-slavery/ -
It's hilarious how anti EV people have suddenly found religion since Musk bought Twitter.

It's really rich blaming national division on libs. There is one ultra racist party and it isn't the dems. -

Gaza destruction risks lost generation of children, says UN official

Which of these 2 numbers is larger than the other do you think? 1. UNHCR assistance for humanitarian causes provided by voluntary donor nations. 2. Qatari funds designed to help Hamas build itself into a military force? By how much? At a guess? Bonus question. Which is most likely to be audited? 1 or 2? -

I view that as a similar argument to using nuclear power to alleviate CO2 production. In the both cases the by product waste problem is enormous but the argument is that it's a lesser evil than the direct global warming caused by excessive CO2. It also doesn't take into account newer battery technologies that are inevitably flowing from the billions in incentives provided by the chinese government. Warranted battery life of a BYD is 8 years. Not bad compared to an ICE vehicle. We could also talk about the environmental damage from oil extraction too but why bother?

Bangkok braces for severe outbreak of three diseases
ozimoron replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Yeah, the same as governments have done for generations when it comes to vaccinations and infectious diseases. BTW, they don't compel you to have a vaccination. Lookup how the vaccinated suffer less from long covid which causes severe mitochondrial damage in the muscles. You might change your tune if you do a bit of reading. -

Blow to Biden as poll shows Trump in lead for 2024 presidential election
ozimoron replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Probably don't want to quote old articles when discussing the stock market. The US S&P 500 is at an all time high right now. Shares in the US rose to record highs on Friday, fuelled by tech stocks and rising hopes about the economy. The S&P 500 index, which tracks shares of America's biggest companies, ended the day up 1.2% to close at 4,839.8, topping the previous record set in January 2022. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-68035276 -
TSLA stock is plummeting while other AI players are still rising. Some have opined that it's an Elon thing, apart from the price cuts to meet BYD which now outsells Tesla wordwide.
